  • Patent number: 6984768
Abstract: A method for destroying halocarbons. Halocarbon materials are reacted in a dehalogenation process wherein they are combined with a solvent in the presence of a catalyst. A hydrogen-containing solvent is preferred which functions as both a solvating agent and hydrogen donor. To augment the hydrogen donation capacity of the solvent if needed (or when non-hydrogen-containing solvents are used), a supplemental hydrogen donor composition may be employed. In operation, at least one of the temperature and pressure of the solvent is maintained near, at, or above a critical level. For example, the solvent may be in (1) a supercritical state; (2) a state where one of the temperature or pressure thereof is at or above critical; or (3) a state where at least one of the temperature and pressure thereof is near-critical. This system provides numerous benefits including improved reaction rates, efficiency, and versatility.

  • Patent number: 6364933
Abstract: Apparatus for use with a natural gas dehydrator wherein a portion of the wet glycol in an emissions separator is pumped under pressure as circulating wet glycol which may be used as a coolant for effluent removed from a reboiler and/or a power source for an eductor to form a vacuum in a first chamber of a liquid water removal separator apparatus. The cooled effluent, comprising at least liquid water, liquid hydrocarbons and uncondensed vapors, moves into the first chamber wherein the liquid water and/or the liquid hydrocarbons are separated from the uncondensed vapors. At least, the uncondensed vapors are removed from the first chamber and move into the eductor wherein they are compressed and combined into the circulating wet glycol. The separated liquid water is transferred to a second chamber of the liquid water removal separator apparatus and then removed therefrom. In some instances, the liquid hydrocarbons are transferred to a third chamber and removed therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5116511
Abstract: A treatment system for removing metal ions from water and a method for cleaning the system. Contaminated water is passed through a plurality of columns having ion-extracting agents therein. When saturated with ions, each column is successively cleaned with primary and secondary acid solutions from separate vessels. When the primary acid is saturated with ions, it is membrane-filtered to remove ions therefrom. The secondary acid is then directed into the primary acid vessel, with the purified primary acid being routed back into the system (preferably into the second vessel) for reuse. The column is then rinsed with water, washed with an alkali solution (periodically concentrated using a water-permeable membrane), and rinsed again with water. The system preferably uses three columns, all of which are successively cleaned in the manner described above.

  • Patent number: 5092154
Abstract: Apparatus and method are disclosed for calibrating a load cell such as a load cell used in apparatus for measuring the forces applied to a pull tab during the formation of an opening in a container lid. The load cell first transmits a signal to a computer-recorder which is indicative of a no force applied condition. A known maximum force is then applied to the load cell which transmits a signal to the computer-recorder which is indicative of a known maximum force applied condition. An intermediate known force is then applied to the load cell which transmits a signal to the computer-recorder which is indicative of a known intermediate force applied condition. The computer-recorder uses the three signals to establish a load slope for use in the force measuring apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4900579
Abstract: A process for applying and bonding a solid lubricant on a substrate whose surface has depressions and pores. The process comprises depositing fine solid lubricant particles on the surface of a substrate to be lubricated in excess of a quantity sufficient to fill essentially all depressions and pores on the substrate surface, and thereafter burnishing the substrate to distribute and bond the lubricant particles on the substrate. Such burnishing of the substrate can be accomplished during its moving contact with another substrate during intended use. Maintenance of lubricity can be accomplished by depositing additional lubricant particles on the substrate and thereafter burnishing, and can be performed while the substrate is in moving contact with another substrate whereby this moving contact performs the burnishing operation.
