  • Patent number: 4157532
Abstract: The method of the present invention, in its broadest aspect, comprises the steps of generating a character mask or template of each of the printed characters to be machine read from the printed document which is to be machine read; providing with the template, in a machine readable format, labels in association with and identifying each of the character masks or templates; interrogating one line at a time of the printed document with the respective ones of the character masks or templates, to identify matches between the character masks or templates and the printed characters on that line of the printed document; and recording the label associated with and identifying a character mask or template each time a match is identified.

  • Patent number: 4154465
Abstract: This invention relates to a fitting for mounting to the ends of smooth wall tubes. The fitting grips on the outside diameter of the tube, and also seals on its inside diameter, with positive adjustable handle torque action. The counter forces of ID sealing and OD gripping at the same point eliminate the possibility of tube distortion especially on minimum wall tubing even at elevated pressures.

  • Patent number: 4149534
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved sterile connector formed by at least two polygonal planar plastic members having the same configuration and being joined face to face in matching relationship, a common collection chamber positioned centrally between the joined members and being formed by the plastic members, a film of adhesive positioned on adjoining faces of the plastic members for holding the contacting faces together, the joined plastic members being adapted to contain at least two spaced fluid flow paths extending from outside the joined plastic members through the adhered members to communicate with the common collection chamber such that the plastic members may be adhesively joined in surrounding relation to said fluid flow paths to establish fluid communication between the flow paths through the common collection chamber in order to establish interconnection between separated fluid sources.

  • Patent number: 4141833
Abstract: A sample discharge syringe especially designed to be used with thin layer chromatography apparatus or TLC. The new syringe is designed to be used as one of a gang of syringes aligned on apparatus as disclosed and claimed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,738,493. The syringe has an anchoring button securely mounted at an area at the forward end of the syringe barrel or on the rear part of the needle which is mounted to the syringe barrel in communication with its interior passageway. The anchoring button has a flange plate in which the radial axis is normal to the elongated axis of the needle and the syringe body. This anchoring plate engages an anchoring rack on the top surface of the TLC apparatus which has a transverse slot to accommodate the flange plate and a slot normal to the transverse slot to accommodate the needle. A two-point hold down system is thus provided with the new syringe to assure immobilization of the gang of syringes as TLC samples are discharged when the needle tips are lowered to the TLC plate.

  • Patent number: 4141445
Abstract: There is disclosed a cap adapted for enclosing an aerosol can such as a shaving cream can, formed by a peripheral side wall and having a closed top and an open bottom end, the cap being substantially cylindrical in configuration, the peripheral side wall of the cap including an elongated slot extending along a line parallel to the tangential plane of the peripheral side wall and further including engagement lugs mounted on the peripheral side wall of the cap and positioned below the elongated slot, the engagement lugs cooperating with the elongated slot to facilitate the retention of a blade cartridge razor therein. In a preferred embodiment, the cap is further provided with a plurality of vertically oriented slots formed in the side wall, the slots having a closed bottom and an open top, access to which is had through a cut-away portion in the top of the cap, each of the vertically oriented slots being adapted to carry in storage configuration, a blade cartridge.

  • Patent number: 4138967
Abstract: A water supply and control device for animals in which a predetermined amount of water in a water reservoir must be removed before the reservoir is refilled. The device consists of a water reservoir having a water supply pipe extending into the reservoir with a valve positioned within the pipe and controlling the flow of water through the supply pipe. An upper float assembly has a movable float within the reservoir and is mechanically linked to the valve to open and close it. A lower float assembly has a lower float connected to an arm which is pivotally connected to a fixed location in the reservoir. There is a brace member having one end connected to the arm and the opposite end engaging in restraining relationship the upper float assembly. The brace remains in the restraining relationship with the upper float assembly until the water within the reservoir falls to a predetermined level, with the lower float following the lowering water level until the predetermined level is reached.
