  • Patent number: 7942668
Abstract: A drilling assembly is provided for drilling a hole into a zygoma of a patient. The assembly can comprise a template, an extension unit, a drill guide unit, and first and second drills. The template can be configured for orientation within a patient's mouth and can comprise a guide sleeve having a longitudinal axis extending towards the zygoma when fitted on the patient. The extension unit can include a central bore and be slideably received within the guide sleeve. The drill guide unit can also include a central bore of a different diameter than that of the extension unit. The first drill can be slideably received within the central bore of the guide sleeve. The second drill can have an outer diameter different than that of the first drill and can be configured to be slideably received with the central bore of the drill guide unit.

  • Patent number: 7428061
Abstract: An optical probe for measuring features of an object comprises two or more viewing directions and two or more projection directions. A method of measuring the features of an object comprises configuring an optical probe into two or more optical groups, wherein an optical group comprises one or more viewing directions and one or more projection directions, wherein at least one viewing direction and at least one projection direction is different between the optical groups, and wherein data obtained by the viewing directions is generated only from patterns projected by the projection directions of the same optical group. The method further comprises collecting data from each optical group while scanning the object.

  • Patent number: 6613039
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the safe surgical placement of sharp instruments, such as trocars, is provided. The apparatus includes a safety guide that allows placement of a surgical trocar through a patient's skin and into a receiver. After placement of a sharp end of the trocar into the receiver, the trocar is then advanced through the patient's skin and removed from the body, thereby pulling a surgical drain, which is attached to the trocar, through the skin. The trocar and safety guide may then be disposed, the sharp end of the trocar remaining safely covered by the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6432372
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method and apparatus of delaying the reaction between a first reactive gas and a second reactive gas as the first reactive gas flows into the second reactive gas. The method comprises the steps of surrounding the first reactive gas with a non-reactive gas to form an insulated first reactive gas; and flowing the insulated first reactive gas into the second reactive gas. A sweep gas is used to impart momentum to the insulated first reactive gas. The apparatus comprises three coaxial tubular members which are used to introduce the first reaction gas, the non-reactive gas, and the sweep gas. The apparatus may be installed in a semiconductor device fabrication process either just upstream of the house exhaust line or upstream of an ODC or air pollution abatement device.

  • Patent number: 6316697
Abstract: Substantially purified CDR1 polypeptide, isolated polynucleotides encoding CDR1 polypeptide, vectors containing CDR1, host cells expressing CDR1, and antibodies which bind to CDR1 are all provided. The invention also provides a method of producing a genetically modified plant characterized as having increased disease resistance as compared to wild-type plants. A method is also provided for identifying novel disease resistance genes by probing a nucleic acid library with at least a fragment of a polynucleotide encoding CDR1, and selecting those clones that hybridize with the fragment.
