  • Patent number: 4049496
Abstract: An improved method for the rapid separation of the MM and MB creatine kinase isoenzymes is provided. The method involves the use of an ion exchange support material comprising porous glass beads having a stationary phase coupled to the surfaces thereof through an intermediate coupling agent. The intermediate coupling agent is preferably a silane coupling agent constituted by an organosilane with a silicon functional group capable of bonding to the surfaces of the glass beads and an organic functional group capable of bonding to the stationary phase. Less preferably, the coupling agent may be formed from a Grignard reagent of the formula RMgX where R is lower alkenyl and X is halogen.

  • Patent number: 4044698
Abstract: Apparatus for joining together two plies of material such as textile fabric comprising a sewing machine, contour guide means for shifting the plies as they are fed forward through the sewing machine to effect contour seaming of the plies, and a feed control clamp for clamping the trailing ends of the plies as they are fed forward. This clamp, clamped on the trailing ends of the plies, moves forward with the plies as they are fed forward. It is also automatically shifted from side to side as it moves forward to maintain the edge of the plies being sewn aligned with the contour guide means. The apparatus further comprises loading means which is adapted, while a pair of plies is being sewn, to receive the next pair to be sewn and, upon completion of sewing the first pair, to enter the next pair in the sewing machine and in the feed control clamp.

  • Patent number: 4039805
Abstract: Apparatus for calculating the price of a measured length of material comprising a sensor for detecting the movement in either of two directions of a material having a length to be measured and a price per unit length. The unit price of the material is entered into the apparatus and a binary value related thereto is derived. Logic components responsive to the sensor determine the direction of material movement and provide a first signal representative of the distance the material moves in a forward direction and a second signal representative of the distance the material moves in a reverse direction. An output signal representing the total price of the measured length of material is provided in response to the first and second signals and the binary value derived from the unit price. A display responds to the output signal to indicate the total price of the measured length of material.

  • Patent number: 4035614
Abstract: Apparatus for validating a card having positioned thereon a plurality of redundant encoded blocks of data readable by moving the card past a reader and for controlling the movement of such a card whose validity is to be determined. A card transporter moves a card along a predetermined path. A reader senses each block of data on the card as it moves forward along the path from an entry position to a dwell or escrow position and supplies an electrical signal representative of the data in each block. A card validator responsive to this signal compares data derived from at least one block thereof with a preselected set of data in making the validity determination. The validator includes circuitry for combining the data from at least one block with a prior set of data to produce a stored resultant set of data, and for comparing it with a preselected set of data and for supplying an indication of card validity if these sets of data are identical.
