  • Patent number: 6450828
Abstract: A plug is disclosed that provides for electrically connecting an electronic device, such as a television, to a signal port providing power, ground, audio/video, control and status-reporting signals to and from the device. The signal port is connected to terminals in a receptacle and the plug includes joining structure that can be inserted in or otherwise coupled to the receptacle to mechanically support the plug and the device. The joining structure is provided with retractable contacts to make the electrical connections with the terminals in the receptacle. The retractable contacts avoid damage when the joining structure is inserted into a receptacle that is fouled with debris because the contacts retract on contact with the debris rather than being bent or pushed out of place.

Abstract: A surface treated metallic material according to the present invention comprises a metallic substrate and a metallic compound layer formed thereon, wherein the entire surface of the metallic compound layer is covered with minute, upright, scaly protrusions. The width in the major axial direction of the scaly protrusions is between 0.05˜0.5 &mgr;m and the thickness between 0.01˜0.1 &mgr;m, and the thickness of the metallic compound layer is between 0.1˜1.0 &mgr;m. The metallic compound layer incorporates one, or two or more of, the materials selected from the group consisting of chromium oxide, chromium hydroxide, niobium oxide, niobium hydroxide, rhodium oxide, rhodium hydroxide, vanadium oxide, vanadium hydroxide, palladium oxide, palladium hydroxide, nickel oxide, and nickel hydroxide. By using surface treated metallic materials of this type, bonding strength to a resin layer can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6440005
Abstract: A small fin extends radially aft from a golf club head to resist rotation of a golf club shaft about its longitudinal axis. The fin is aligned relative to the club head so as to produce minimum drag when the club is drawn smoothly through the desired arc without rotating the club shaft about its longitudinal axis. Rotation of the shaft about its longitudinal axis displaces the fin from its minimum drag position and hence puts the fin in disequilibrium, such that the drag is greater on the side of the fin that would urge the fin back into its equilibrium position, thereby rotating the shaft back into its correct position.

  • Patent number: 6435444
Abstract: A reel has a housing, an axle, a handle, a wheel and a friction element. The friction element is mounted in the housing and presses against the wheel. The friction element is made of an elastic material. The friction element includes an inverse U-shaped base and a protruding contact pad extending up from the base portion to press against the outer edge of the wheel. Consequently, the wheel can be stopped in any desired position by the friction element, and the degree to which the canopy can be expanded is controlled. The use of the suspended sunshade becomes more versatile.

  • Patent number: 6432658
Abstract: The invention provides a one-stage method of measuring antithrombin (AT) activity in a sample. In the method, a diluted sample is mixed with AT-deficient plasma containing intrinsic coagulation enzymes, an AT augmenting compound such as heparin, a phospholipid and an activator of the contact phase of the intrinsic coagulation pathway. Following addition of calcium ions, coagulation time is measured and compared to a reference standard to determine the level of AT activity in the sample.
