    Abstract: A cassette for sheet film has a cover and a bottom which are hinged to one another along a longitudinal edge of the cassette. Locking elements for locking the cover and bottom when the cassette is closed are arranged at the opposite longitudinal edge of the cassette. The cover and bottom cooperate to define a film compartment and the bottom has a rigid, flat wall for supporting a sheet of film. The cover has a window for exposing the film in the compartment and is further provided with a slot which slidably receives a shield for protecting the film against light until such time as the film is to be exposed. A resilient rim is mounted on the cover and extends around the window. The rim is arranged to press the margins of the film against the rigid wall of the bottom when the cassette is closed. The hinged connection of the cover and the bottom causes the rim to contact the film progressively as the cassette is closed so that the rim stretches the film flat over the rigid wall of the bottom.

    Abstract: A cleansing arrangement for a milking machine has a reservoir for cleansing fluid. A vacuum line for conveying the cleansing fluid through the milking machine has an inlet end at the bottom of the reservoir and an outlet end at the top of the reservoir. A metering device for measuring predetermined amounts of concentrated cleansing fluid is located inside the reservoir. A pipe connects the metering with the vacuum line. The pipe has a branch which leads to a supply of water to serve as a diluent for the concentrated cleansing fluid. The metering device is further connected with two sources of different concentrated cleansing fluids via two separate pipes. Each pipe has its own valve member which normally closes the respective pipe. A handle is provided for selectively opening the cleansing fluid supply pipes. In operation, the handle is moved to open one of the cleansing fluid supply pipes.

    Abstract: A clamp for hoses or the like has an elongated band the end portions of which overlap each other and are held in overlapped relationship to form a loop around the hose or the like. Each end portion has an outwardly extending projection which can be engaged by a tool to tension the clamp. The projection on the outer end portion is a lug which is plastically deformable in a direction toward the other end portion when the maximum permissible tensioning force is reached. This ensures that the maximum permissible force cannot be exceeded and allows for a visual control as to whether or not the clamp has been properly tightened.

    Abstract: A container for X-ray films is of the type wherein at least one side of the film is contacted by a stratum of fluorescent material. The fluorescent material is biased against the respective side or sides of the film by two layers which consist of ferromagnetic and/or magnetic material, flank the film and attract each other. Such layers can be applied to the inner or outer sides of sheet-like carriers consisting of synthetic plastic material. The aforedescribed film, stratum or strata, layers and carriers may but need not be inserted into the space between the rigid or flexible walls of an envelope. The envelope can be dispensed with if the carriers consist of opaque material. Since each of the two carriers can support the respective layer and the respective stratum of fluorescent material, the thickness of the entire package is minimal and the film can be placed into close proximity of one or more objects to be imaged so as to obtain sharp images of such object or objects.

    Abstract: The passage in a wall which separates the interior of the housing of a glandless submersible motor pump from the surrounding atmosphere is normally sealed by an annular seat which is placed against the end face of a muff forming a detachable part of the wall, and by a temperature- and pressure-resistant ceramic sleeve which surrounds an elongated metallic conductor and normally bears against the seat owing to the pressure differential between the interior of the housing and the surrounding atmosphere. If the sleeve is destroyed, a normally confined plunger of the conductor bears directly against the seat to prevent escape of fluid from the pump housing. That end portion of the conductor which extends into the housing is surrounded by one or more layers of insulating tape and by a tubular sheath which is shrunk onto the tape and exhibits at least some thermal-shock-absorbing characteristics.

The wear ring has an exposed end face and a second end face which is adjacent to a circumferential shoulder of the impeller body. The second end face of the ring is formed with axially parallel bores or slots which extend toward but short of the first end face, and the shoulder has recesses which are aligned with the open ends of the adjacent bores or slots. The first end face of the ring is formed with markers in the form of notches which register with the corresponding bores or slots and allow for accurate positioning of a boring tool which is used to bore out the ring after a certain period of wear to facilitate its separation from the impeller body and replacement with a fresh wear ring.

    Abstract: A continuous stream of tobacco particles is conveyed through a conditioning zone wherein the stream is agitated and is directly contacted by a current of hot air. The moisture content of the thus dried tobacco particles is measured downstream of the conditioning zone and the temperature of hot air is changed when the measured moisture content of dried tobacco particles deviates from a desired value. A second parameter of hot air (e.g., its initial moisture content) is varied when the temperature of freshly dried tobacco particles deviates from a preselected temperature. This ensures that the moisture content of tobacco particles does not fluctuate subsequent to cooling which follows the drying operation.

    Abstract: A filtering arrangement for adjusting the color composition of the copying light in a color copier has three filters located upstream of an original to be copied as considered in the direction of light propagation. Each filter is divided into three filter sections which are rotatable in unison so as to project into the path of the copying light to larger or smaller degrees. A motor is provided for each filter and each motor has a rotatable drive shaft which is parallel to the path of the copying light. One of the filter sections of each filter is fixedly mounted on the shaft of the corresponding motor for rotation therewith. The remaining two filter sections of each filter are mounted on the shafts of the other motors via roller bearings so as to be rotatable relative to such shafts. The three filter sections of each filter are connected by a cable so that all three filter sections rotate when the motor corresponding to the filter is actuated.

The pressure transducers can shift the bearings for the uppermost roll through distances of up to 25 mm, and they are movable transversely of the respective feed screws or vice versa to compensate for manufacturing tolerances, wear and/or unequal stresses. The lowermost roll is normally held at a predetermined level by a pair of fluid-operated motors which urge the respective bearings against the undersides of stops provided therefor on the support.

If the location of the corner deviates from the desired location, one of the aforementioned portions engages the respective surface of the workpiece prior to engagement between the other portion and the corresponding surface of the workpiece whereby the one portion of the work contacting device moves transversely of the path of movement of the corresponding piston rod while the other piston rod continues to move toward the workpiece. The extent of movement of each piston rod is monitored by electronic or other suitable means.

    Abstract: Successive stacks of flexible paper sheets are supplied by the conveyors of a feeding unit in a first direction and along a first horizontal path onto a succession of vertically movable sections of a horizontal table while the sections dwell in their upper positions. The sections are thereupon lowered simultaneously to the level of a second horizontal path wherein a pusher advances the lowered stack in a second direction at right angles to the first direction and along the second horizontal path into the range of two belt conveyors forming part of a removing unit. The sections of the table are disposed one behind the other, as considered in the second direction, and are raised individually back to their upper positions as soon as the pusher advances an article therebeyond. A supporting member assists the sections in supporting an oncoming article in the first path during advancement of such article to a position above the sections of the table.

The pump is a vertical cantilevered centrifugal pump which is operated below first critical speed and its housing has holes for admission of coal oil from the plenum chamber to those parts in the pump housing which are most likely to undergo extensive wear under the action of coal particles in the suspension.

    Abstract: The casing of a centrifugal pump which is subjected to pronounced external stresses is secured to a foundation or to a base plate by one or more rings which surround the casing and receive stresses therefrom. Each ring has lugs which transmit the stresses to the support; one surface of each such lug can be located in a plane which includes the axis of the pump casing and each of these surfaces abuts a complementary surface of the support. If the casing is surrounded by two rings, each ring is located at a different axial end of the casing. One of the rings can be shrunk onto the casing, and the other ring then allows the casing to move angularly and/or axially therein or therewith but relative to the foundation or base plate so as to compensate for dimensional changes in response to temperature changes. Instead of being shrunk onto the casing, the one ring can be secured thereto by one or more keys, wedges and/or pins.

    Abstract: Apparatus for breaking up stacks of boards in a power saw has a platform which carries a stack of boards and is movable upwardly by a motor which is automatically arrested in response to lifting of a preselected number of boards above a given level. The unit which effects the transfer of boards above such level onto a table which supports the boards during cutting carries a pivotable lever with an idler roller which rests on the topmost board during lifting of the platform, and the lever causes a switch or a signal comparing stage to arrest the motor for the platform when it assumes a preselected angular position. When the idler roller is moved off the topmost panel in response to transfer of the selected number of boards onto the table and resulting movement of the transfer unit relative to the platform, the lever assumes a given position in which it arrests the motor for the transfer unit.
