A second polymer layer is laminated to the second major surface of the substrate, sandwiching the substrate between the first and second polymer layers. The substrate is preferably steel having a thickness preferably between about 1 to 3 mils. A significant advantage of the composite sheet is the increase in the utility of the composite sheet due to the composite structure.

    Abstract: A membrane is used as a collection substrate in an electrostatic precipitator (ESP). Possible material choices include fibers in the form of woven mats, screens made from stainless steel wires or fiber reinforced polymer composite membranes. The membranes have a tensile bias applied during operation, and have impulse tensile force applied during a dust removal step. By combining a dry ESP membrane field with wet-film cleaning field, it may be possible to improve collection efficiencies both by reducing turbulence and eliminating re-entrainment losses due to rapping. Through implementation of new materials that resist hostile ESP environments, the invention enhances the possibility of using novel technologies, such as pulsed corona and others, suitable for removal of molecules such as NOx and SOx, which is very important for meeting proposed PM2.5 EPA emissions regulations.

    Abstract: This invention relates to source-coupled logic (SCL) which is a functional derivative of emitter-coupled logic (ECL). ECL is widely recognized as having the characteristics of high speed (low propagation delay) and low power supply noise generation. The SCL of the prior art succeeds at maintaining and improving the low noise characteristics of this architecture but does not fulfill the promise of high speed that one would expect from a current-mode logic. In addition, it uses a differential form of logic that is not as flexible and easy-to-use as a reference controlled or “single-ended” logic. The SCL disclosed here has the desired high speed properties and maintains the ease of use that is a property of reference controlled ECL. In addition, the reference controlled SCL of this invention provides new capabilities that make it even more flexible than ECL in generating logical switching functions.

    Abstract: A hydrocarbon capturing device includes a retainer that is inserted into the end of an outlet pipe in a storm sewer catch basin. The retainer includes a ring that expands under a bias against the inner surface of the outlet pipe and radially extending fingers mounted to the ring that prevent insertion of the ring into the pipe too far. Two hooks are mounted to the retainer near the upper side of the outlet pipe to fasten one end of a hydrophobic, hydrocarbon-absorbing fabric sheet to the retainer. The opposite end of the sheet extends into the passageway of the outlet pipe, thereby floating atop any water that flows through the pipe during and after a rainfall or snowfall.

A significant portion of the air within the bag is removed, compressing the stack of filter pads to reduce space. At least two flanges are formed on two adjoining edges of the bag. The flanges can be cut along a portion of their length to form an aperture through which the filter pads can be removed, while retaining the filter pads until deliberate removal by hand.

    Abstract: A fluent material containing and dispensing apparatus including a hopper having four sidewalls. A tube mounts to one of the sidewalls, and an auger extends from one end of the tube to the opposite end of the hopper, driving material in the hopper through the tube when the auger is rotated. A flexible hose is mounted to the underside of the tube and material in the tube pours into the hose, which can be kinked to slow or stop flow of material. A gap is formed between the outer surfaces of the auger and the tube wall. A radially inwardly extending flange can be mounted to the tube wall to slow the flow of material through the gap. Alternatively, a compressible sleeve can be mounted in the gap between the outer surfaces of the auger and the tube wall extending a substantial length of the tube.

This composition raises the pH rapidly for destroying pathogens, is sufficiently concentrated for economically feasible transportation, and reduces the cost, difficulties and dangers of treating sewage with a lime based composition while providing a resulting product from the sewage treatment process which can be spread upon agricultural soil in a manner which improves soil fertility without introducing undesirable or contaminating materials into the soil.

    Abstract: In a free piston machine, a coil is mounted to its housing and magnetically linked to a permanent magnet or electromagnet on its piston member to form a linear motor. The coil and magnet are either added to embody the invention or are part of an AC linear alternator or AC linear motor which are a part of the free piston machine. A source of DC electrical current and a switch for connecting the DC source to the coil supply DC current to the coil when the switch is closed so that the coil and magnet temporarily operate as a DC linear motor until the piston is adequately centered for start-up without collision. The DC source voltage is temporarily applied to the coil to move the piston away from an end wall of the cylinder. This is accomplished by applying the DC current to the coil for a predetermined time interval, or by sensing when the piston has reached an adequately centered position.

    Abstract: A free piston internal combustion engine having improved valve timing. A pair of oppositely disposed combustion chamber passageways extending between the combustion chamber and the earth's atmosphere, each have a combustion chamber valve for controlling the passage of gas through the passageways. The combustion chamber valves are essentially simultaneously opened and closed to permit independent variation and control of the compression ratio, expansion ratio, and stroke of the engine. When the valves are opened, the combustion chamber is purged or supercharged with combustion supporting air, and closed to initiate compression. Variable control of the piston positions at which the valves are opened and closed permits the engine to operate at a high efficiency over a broad range of power output loading conditions.

    Abstract: A door sill has a plastic, or other water impervious, plank fastened on its underside. The bottom of the plank seats against the subfloor of a building. The ends of the plank protrude beyond the rest of the sill, forming short flanges under the lower ends of the attached door jambs. The jambs are fastened to the sill, and the flanges are fastened to the jambs, by nails, screws or staples. The plank is water impervious, thereby preventing rot of the jambs by water wicking up to, and into, the jambs. The plank also raises the sill, and therefore the entire door frame, up by the thickness of the plank, which keeps the bottom of the door from scraping against the upper surface of a finish floor material, such as carpet.

    Abstract: A blast suppression system is provided, with the system including a plurality of command-actuated units located in the immediate vicinity of a bomb, a reservoir of suppressant material, and transmission lines connecting the reservoir to the units. Each of the units provides for the transmission of a suppressant material, preferably water, therethrough. Each of the units has nozzles configured to disperse the suppressant material into the air surrounding the bomb. Preferably, the transmission occurs prior to the explosion of the bomb, and continues after the explosion as well. Each command-actuated unit preferably has associated therewith an adjustable flow rate, an adjustable flow pattern, and an adjustable droplet size. In one embodiment of the invention, the command-actuated units are stationary, while in another embodiment the units are mobile. A method for utilizing the system is also disclosed.
