  • Patent number: 8161123
Abstract: A system whereby a first user can post messages securely to a central data server, which date stamps the messages and permanently records their content and dates. Other authorized users can access the account on the central data server, and preferably can post messages to the same. The dates and content of the messages posted cannot be changed. Thus, the system is a reliable source of information about the content of communications and the dates of receipt by the central data server. Notice can be sent to users by email or otherwise apprising them of a newly posted message.

  • Patent number: 8150606
Abstract: An electrical ignition method for a combustion engine employing the use of an arrangement of several coils and a magnet wheel or magnet generator which rotates synchronously with the combustion engine, wherein the magnetic field of the magnet generator intermittently flows through the coils and therein generates a sequence of magnetic flux changes per revolution, whereby a sequence of corresponding alternating voltage half-waves is induced in the coils, which are used for charging an energy storage element. Through the use of a stop and/or switch-off system for the combustion engine, the disclosed method prevents a discharge of the energy storage element during the stopping and coast down procedure of the combustion engine and/or to actuate its charging, so that a charged energy storage element is available for the next start of the combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 8104591
Abstract: A shock absorber having a valve controlling the flow rate of fluid between a compression chamber and a rebound chamber in a housing and separated by a piston. The valve has an orifice component and a blocker component, one of which has a permanent magnet, and the other of which has a magnetically permeable material. Upon the application of sufficient fluid pressure, the blocker component is forced away from the orifice component, despite the magnetic bias that tends to attract the two structures. Because the magnetic force decreases as the two components are spaced farther apart, the shock absorber has excellent performance characteristics. Alternatively, a mechanical spring urges the blocker closed, and magnetic attraction between the blocker and a spaced opener mitigates the increased force of the compressed spring tending to close the valve.

  • Patent number: 8105425
Abstract: An air filter including a plurality of air-pervious sheets of electret filtration material. The sheets are disposed in a parallel relationship to form a stack of sheets, and each of the sheets has a plurality of slits formed therein for subsequent expanding to form openings. The stack is connected together at opposing ends, such as by bonding. The sheets can be pleated by mounting in a frame. The frame has opposing ends to which the opposing ends of the stack are mounted. The filter media initially has no frame and is not pleated, but is in a flat pad form that is expanded to be installed into a frame. The frame is then mounted in an appliance, such as a room air filter. When the filter is inserted into the filter housing it is expanded and can take a pleated form.

  • Patent number: 8100479
Abstract: A miner communication and locating system is disclosed. Two technologies used in the system include a communicator, and a locator array that may be used with a computer. The communicator portion allows trapped miners to continually signal without physical effort that they have survived a cave-in or explosion in a direct, mechanical, and reliable manner. The locator array receives the communicator signal for use to accurately identify where the survivors are underground, and facilitate their rescue; a computer can be used to calculate the position of the communicator from information provided by a plurality of locators: global positioning system receivers may be used with the locator array.

  • Patent number: 8092551
Abstract: A method for producing pantyhose and other nylon or spandex hosiery with a long-lasting aloe finish is provided. A first step of the method is to place the pantyhose in a dye tub with a quantity of dye mix and ammonia sulfate. The contents of the dye tub are then heated until the pores in the nylon fibers of the pantyhose open and accept the dye molecules. A color fix is then added to the dye tub along with an acid substitute for creating a strong bond between the dye molecules and the nylon fibers. A softening mix containing a cationic nylon softener and a diluted silicone softener is then applied to the pantyhose. Lastly, an aloe finish containing a silicone micro-emulsion is added to the dye tub followed by another quantity of acid substitute for creating a strong bond between the aloe finish and the nylon fibers of the pantyhose.

  • Patent number: 8087173
Abstract: A modular tool system includes a plate for carrying a tool, a top plate and a base plate. A pair of locking members is disposed at two opposite ends of the tool-carrying plate. Each lock member is rotatably mounted in the tool-carrying plate, and has an axis of rotation perpendicular the tool-carrying plate. Each locking member has a keyway for receiving and locking a corresponding key of the top plate, and a key for inserting and locking in a corresponding keyway of the base plate. Turning of the keys of the top plate relative to the keyways of the tool-carrying plate locks the top plate and the tool-carrying plate together, and further turning of the keys of the top plate turns the keys of the tool-carrying plate relative to the keyways of the base plate and locks the tool-carrying plate and the base plate together.

  • Patent number: 8079232
Abstract: A heating and/or cooling system for a dwelling, including a heat exchanger that is located indoors, and ducting that directs rejected air to the attic space or outdoors. The heat exchanger is pre-heated and/or pre-cooled with indoor space air, thereby increasing the efficiency of the system. Additionally, a pair of parallel heat exchangers are mounted in the air path of the air handler that forces air in the indoor space of the dwelling. The parallel heat exchangers are connected to conduit through which refrigerant flows between the first heat exchanger, a compressor and an expansion valve. The parallel heat exchangers are mounted in the air path, and because they are heated or cooled to the same extent, they heat or cool the air blowing through them to a greater extent than a conventional heating and cooling system.

  • Patent number: 8057951
Abstract: Conveying gas containing sulfur through a sulfur tolerant planar solid oxide fuel cell (PSOFC) stack for sulfur scrubbing, followed by conveying the gas through a non-sulfur tolerant PSOFC stack. The sulfur tolerant PSOFC stack utilizes anode materials, such as LSV, that selectively convert H2S present in the fuel stream to other non-poisoning sulfur compounds. The remaining balance of gases remaining in the completely or near H2S-free exhaust fuel stream is then used as the fuel for the conventional PSOFC stack that is downstream of the sulfur-tolerant PSOFC. A broad range of fuels such as gasified coal, natural gas and reformed hydrocarbons are used to produce electricity.
