Patent number: 8312262Abstract: A Management System (MS) manages signing privileges for entities desiring cryptographic signatures, and a Certificate Authority (CA) provides a cryptographic signing service. MS registers entities for the cryptographic signing service, determines signing privileges for each entity, and processes requests from entities for signatures. For registration, MS obtains registration information for the entity and invokes CA to generate an identity certificate for the entity. This identity certificate contains cryptographic information used to uniquely identify the entity. For signature generation, MS receives a request for a signature from the entity, authenticates the entity, authorizes or denies the request based on the signing privileges stored for the entity, and invokes CA to generate the signature if the signature is authorized. CA provides the cryptographic signing service and generates signatures and certificates as directed by MS.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2004Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Anthony P. Patent number: 8090577Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for determining the type of acoustic signal and the type of frequency spectrum exhibited by the acoustic signal in order to selectively delete parameter information before vector quantization. The bits that would otherwise be allocated to the deleted parameters can then be re-allocated to the quantization of the remaining parameters, which results in an improvement of the perceptual quality of the synthesized acoustic signal. Alternatively, the bits that would have been allocated to the deleted parameters are dropped, resulting in an overall bit-rate reduction.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2002Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorportedInventors: Khaled Helmi El-Maleh, Ananthapadmanabhan Arasanipalai Kandhadai, Sharath Manjunath

Patent number: 7965736Abstract: A transmitter generates MUX-PDUs for video, audio, data, and/or control streams based on a fixed PHY packet size such that all or a substantial percentage of the MUX-PDUs conform to the PHY packet size. The MUX-PDUs have variable sizes and are mapped to PHY packets such that (1) each MUX-PDU that is smaller than the PHY packet size is sent in one PHY packet and (2) each MUX-PDU that is larger than the PHY packet size is sent in a minimum number of PHY packets. Each MUX-PDU is padded with one or more null MUX-PDUs and/or one or more padding bytes, if needed, to obtain the PHY packet size. Each PHY packet is sent in one transmission time interval (TTI) to a receiver. The receiver performs the complementary processing on the received PHY packets to recover the MUX-PDUs. The receiver forwards each valid MUX-PDU and discards any padding.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2005Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventor: Fan Ling

Patent number: 7881711Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for dynamically decoding acknowledgment signals. A source receives an acknowledgment signal and starts monitoring an energy value associated with the acknowledgment signal. If the energy value exceeds a predetermined threshold amount before the end of the acknowledgment signal, then the source is confident that the portion of the acknowledgment signal received up to that point could be decoded successfully. Hence, the source decodes that portion of the acknowledgment signal and disregards the remainder of the acknowledgment signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2002Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Stein A. Patent number: 7567722Abstract: A dynamically scaled file encoding method and apparatus are disclosed. A file encoding system using JPEG encoding can be configured to produce relatively constant compressed file sizes irrespective of the initial file size and file contents. The system retrieves an initial file or image that is to be compressed and determines a target bit rate corresponding to the compressed file. The target bit rate is used to determine an initial scaling factor. The initial file is encoded using a JPEG encoder having coefficients scaled by the initial scaling factor. The resultant bit rate can be adjusted in a second loop if greater than the desired bit rate. To adjust the bit rate, a recomputed scaling factor is determined from the resultant bit rate. The initial file is then encoded with coefficients scaled by the recomputed scaling factor to achieve a bit rate that is within the target bit rate.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2005Date of Patent: July 28, 2009Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Shizhong Liu, Phan L. Patent number: 7483520Abstract: According to a disclosed embodiment, an incoming call from a first telephone number is received (310). A variable indicating the number of calls received from the first telephone number is incremented (312). The variable is compared to a threshold variable (316). Subsequently, the user is prompted to save the first telephone number in an address book (319) when the variable indicating the number of times an incoming call is received from the first telephone number is equal to, or greater than, the threshold variable. The first telephone number is then stored in the address book. Moreover, an apparatus can be assembled (200) to provide cellular telephone users with, for example, instructions and information via a speaker (228) and an LCD display (238). The apparatus is configured to provide instructions and information to the cellular telephone user at appropriate times, thereby increasing the cellular telephone's usefulness.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2001Date of Patent: January 27, 2009Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Charles Han, Richard Paul Walters, Andrew P. Patent number: 7428305Abstract: A method for constructing keyed integer permutations over the set ZN. where N can be factored into p and q, or N can be prime. N bits are permuted by deriving a keyed permutation of representative indices. When N is factorable into p and q, the set of indices are divided into two portions. The portions undergo iterative processing called “rounds,” and in each round, a first half-round function operates on the first portion to form a first half-round value; the first half-round value and the second portion are added together by a modulo-p adder to form a first output value; a second half-round function operates on the second portion to form a second half-round value; and the second half-round value and the first portion are added together by a modulo-q adder to form a second output value. In this manner, outputs of the rounds are reordered. If N is prime and not less than 13, then N is separated into composite values s and t, and two sets are formed with s and t elements, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2000Date of Patent: September 23, 2008Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Philip Hawkes, Gregory G.
