  • Patent number: 5847438
Abstract: A semiconductor device includes a groove formed in a surface of a first semiconductor substrate of one conductivity type in order to partition and isolate first and second device regions. A first insulating film on the first semiconductor substrate of the first device region also contacts the groove. A second insulating film covers an inner wall of the groove. The first insulating film is thicker than the second film in order to increase the breakdown voltage and facilitate carrying a higher current. This thickness relationship also aids manufacturing.

  • Patent number: 5844766
Abstract: A lightning suppression system comprising a directional coupler, a quarter-wavelength stub, a first cylindrical capacitor, a second cylindrical capacitor and a lightning suppression circuit. Each of the cylindrical capacitors has an inner conductor element, an outer conductive tube and a dielectric material. Direction coupler acts to block direct current and low frequency signals from passing therethrough. The quarter-wavelength stub comprises a helicoid and acts to reflect radio frequency signals back to the transmission line while allowing direct current and low frequency signals to flow therethrough. First cylindrical capacitor and second cylindrical capacitor combine to form a low pass filter which allows direct current and low frequency signals to flow through while blocking other signals. The lightning suppression circuit suppresses high voltage direct current and low frequency signals such as those produced by near lightning strikes.

  • Patent number: 5842905
Abstract: A simple, general purpose temporary dyeing process for coloring plastic or plastic fabric is disclosed. A colorless, but pH sensitive indicator solution is applied to a plastic material, such as the hair of a fashion doll, without changing the hair color. A developer solution of a specific pH range is subsequently applied to the doll hair, thereby causing the color of the hair to change. As the hair dries and the developer solution evaporates, the hair returns to its original color.

  • Patent number: 5842883
Abstract: In a connector for use in connecting a connection member (33) of a sheet-like having first and second surfaces opposite to each other in a predetermined direction, a contact member (35) is provided with a first arm portion (53) extending to face the first surface and a second arm portion (54) connected to the first arm portion and extending to face the second surface. The first arm portion is for engaging with an operation member (39) to be moved by manual operation of the operation member in the predetermined direction. The second arm portion moves together with the first arm portion to become in contact with the second surface of the connection member. When the first arm portion is moved, bending is caused in a bendable portion (47) extending from a fixed portion (32) which is fixed to an insulator (31).

  • Patent number: 5843864
Abstract: A method of making a smudge-resistant thermally imageable document by applying a non-blocking ink stamp image receptive coating to the protective top coating, so that the image will dry within thirty second or less, and while producing an optical image density of at least 1.0. An ink comprising a dye, at least 8% m-pyrol by weight, a glycol, alcohol and water will dry quickly when applied from a stamp ink pad impregnated with that formulation.

  • Patent number: 5836001
Abstract: A solenoid has a multistage telescoping plunger which together produce a single stroke. Each plunger stage has a separate air gap individually associated therewith. As the first air gap closes responsive to movement of a first telescoping plunger stage, a portion of the stator becomes magnetically saturated; however, magnetic material has moved with the first plunger stage in order to bridge the saturated position which switches the flux path to a second air gap via a second of the telescoping plunger stages. An advantage is that the solenoid has a long stroke with a high pulling force on both the initial and the final ends of a continuous stroke formed by the separate movements of the first and second plunger stages.
