    Abstract: This invention relates generally fluid mixer assembly and more particularly to an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) mixer comprising an inlet conduit, an exhaust conduit, and a shielded conduit. The shielded conduit is partially disposed in the inlet conduit and has a fluid diverting portion and fluid passing portion. The fluid diverting portion diverts intake air into a first fluid stream and a second fluid stream. Exhaust gas is passed through fluid passing portion and is mixed with the first fluid stream and second fluid stream generally at a point downstream of the shielded conduit.

    Abstract: A vehicle operates under various ambient conditions and various operating parameters. To compensate for the ambient condition and the operating parameters an engine, an intake air temperature is controlled. One of an ambient air flow restriction system or an intake air flow restriction system is used to vary the flow of a recipient ambient air flow through an air to air or the flow of a donor intake air flow through the aftercooler respectively. A plurality of louvers are operatively moved between a closed position and an open position with the ambient air flow restriction system. And, a flapper valve is operatively moved between a closed position and an open position with the intake air flow restriction system. A controller interprets a respective signal from a plurality of sensors to define the position of the plurality of louvers or to define the position of the flapper valve.

A brake rocker arm extends transversely through the fuel injector and axially accommodates the fuel injector plunger and plunger return spring. The brake rocker arm is also operatively connected to the engine exhaust valve rocker arm, and a camming shaft, having a flat or planar surface portion, is operatively connected to an end portion of the brake rocker arm. When the end portion of the brake rocker arm is disposed in contact with the flat or planar surface portion of the camming shaft, normal fuel injection can occur in accordance with an electronic control module (ECM).

    Abstract: A vibration isolation or noise attenuation and fluid sealing system, for use in connection with internal combustion engine components. For example, for use in the mounting of a valve cover or rocker arm cover upon a cylinder block or cylinder head, or for the mounting of an oil pan cover upon an oil pan housing. The system has an isolation medium or member mechanically and/or chemically bonded to a peripheral flange portion of the cover member. A sealing flange member is chemically and/or mechanically bonded to the isolation member or medium. The three components being a one-piece unitary cover assembly. The fluid leakage along the interfaces defined between the three components is effectively eliminated. The one-piece assembly is secured to the cylinder block or head, or the oil pan housing, by shoulder bolt fasteners. The fasteners exert compressive forces upon the isolation member so as to vary the stiffness and frequency characteristics thereof.

    Abstract: Past applications have found that a joint becomes damaged due to the high loading and vibration loads in which it encounters during operation. The counterbored joint utilizes the flexible shim that is larger than the body receiving bore. A undercut is machined into the body receiving bore which allows for the flexible shim to be placed within the body receiving bore between the first and second step surfaces. The first step surface is parallel to the second step surface which distributes stresses uniformly and helps in sealing. The principal use is for a cylinder liner joint, however any joint that is highly loaded or encounters vibrational loads will benefit from this invention. For example, a hydraulic joint that utilizes a piston in operation may be remanufactured with this invention.

    Abstract: Conventional gas compressors use dry gas sealing arrangements mounted on a shaft of the gas compressor. Functionally, for the dry gas sealing arrangement to properly seal, the concentricity of shaft and the dry gas sealing arrangement must be maintained at a close tolerance. Past assembly techniques have failed to mount such dry gas sealing arrangement to the shaft in an effective and efficiently manner to control the concentricity during operation. The present method and apparatus for controlling the concentricity of a member with a centering device effectively and efficiently controls the concentricity between the member and the shaft. The structure of the centering device includes a first cylindrical portion, a second cylindrical portion and a transition portion. The first cylindrical portion is cantilevered about the shaft and centers a first end of the member. The second cylindrical portion and the transition portion form a mid-support for a second end of the member.

    Abstract: This invention relates generally to a piston assembly and more specifically to a piston assembly in a prepackaged configuration. The prepackaged piston assembly is ready for immediate installation into an engine or compressor. The piston assembly has a plurality of rings preinstalled on a piston member and a sleeve position about the piston member and the plurality of rings maintaining the rings in a compressed position ready for installation into an engine. The piston assembly is lowered into a cylinder bore, the sleeve contacts the top surface of a block and the piston assembly can be easily installed into the cylinder bore without the need for the mechanic to compress the plurality of rings. Thus the present invention reduces time and expense required for rebuilding and engine and increases the quality of the rebuild.

    Abstract: Recuperators include a core which is commonly constructed of a plurality of relatively thin flat sheets having an angled or corrugated spacer fixedly attached therebetween. The sheets are joined into cells, sealed and form passages between the sheets. These cells are stacked or rolled and form alternate air (recipient) cells and hot exhaust (donor) cells. Compressed discharged air from a compressor of the engine passes through the air cell while hot exhaust gas flows through alternate cells. The exhaust gas heats the sheets and the spacers, and the compressor discharged air is heated by conduction from the sheets and spacers. The need for repeatability of construction of each cell assures that the final recuperator is economically and easily assembled. Examples, of such repeatability required includes length, height, thickness, weld size, weld position, weld splatter and others.

    Abstract: Past pistons have been susceptible to reduced longevity due to increased forces of combustion thereon during operating cycles of an engine. The present two piece unitary piston increases the longevity of pistons used with increased forces of combustion. For example, a head member has a bottom surface and a support surface. And, a skirt member defines an upper outer support surface and an upper inner support surface. The head member and the skirt member have a preestablished material strength being generally the same. The head member and the skirt member are joined at an interface of the bottom surface and the upper outer support surface and the interface of the support surface and the upper inner support surface respectively by a welding process. The force of combustion acting on the crown portion is resisted by the upper outer support surface being in contacting relationship with the bottom surface.

The present exhaust gas recirculation system reduces the emissions emitted from an engine during all operating parameters of the engine. The engine has a cylinder, a rotatable crankshaft and a turbocharger defining a compressor section compressing a flow of intake air to a first preestablished pressure and being driven by a flow of exhaust gas having a first preestablished pressure. The exhaust gas recirculation system is comprised of a portion of the flow of exhaust gas being recirculated back to the cylinder and forming a flow of exhaust gas recirculation. The flow of exhaust gas recirculation is cooled. The flow of exhaust gas recirculation is mixed with exhaust gas and compressed to a second preestablished pressure by the positive displacement pump.

The sleeve assembly has a positioning portion and locating portion. The positioning portion is in sealing engagement with one of the manifold sections and the locating portion is in resiliently sealing engagement with the other manifold section. The principle use is for exhaust manifold connections, however any joint that has thermal expansion or encounters vibrational loads will benefit from this invention. For example, exhaust gas recirculation systems may have passages connected with this invention.

    Abstract: An elastomeric belt laying vehicle is disclosed for transmitting greater tractive effort to the earth as compared to comparably powered wheel vehicles and being operable at high speed on improved road surfaces without inflicting damage thereto. A pair of the wheels are arranged on each lateral side of the vehicle's chassis for support thereof. An inextensible, endless belt is highly tensioned throughout its length, is entrained about each pair of wheels, and is frictionally, drivingly coupled to at least one wheel of each pair. The structure of the belt, structure of the wheels and cooperating components thereof ensure engagement therebetween, provides long service with minimum maintenance thereof, and supplies the necessary frictional couple to effectively transmit driving torque from the wheels to the belt.
