  • Patent number: 7436595
Abstract: A system for increasing the depth of field and decreasing the wavelength sensitivity and the effects of misfocus-producing aberrations of the lens of an incoherent optical system incorporates a special purpose optical mask into the incoherent system. The optical mask has been designed to cause the optical transfer function to remain essentially constant within some range from the in-focus position. Signal processing of the resulting intermediate image undoes the optical transfer modifying effects of the mask, resulting in an in-focus image over an increased depth of field. Generally the mask is placed at a principal plane or the image of a principal plane of the optical system. Preferably, the mask modifies only phase and not amplitude of light. The mask may be used to increase the useful range of passive ranging systems.

  • Patent number: 7430812
Abstract: Disclosed is a device used to set twist angles. The device include a set plate which is supported at one end and a protractor plate at a second end. The hose is placed in position atop the two supports and the hose placed on top of the supports with couplers at each end. The user then clamps the first coupler in a horizontal position pointing toward one of two sides of the set plate. This is used as a reference from which a twist angle may be set at the other side of the tool. The other side of the tool includes a protractor in such a way that the elbow can be rotated in position relative to one of two scales. These two scales are color coded such that for acute angles, the user will know to point the first end horizontally in the red (?) direction and for obtuse angles the user will point the coupler in the blue direction. Depending on which color the user selects will match it up and the elbow twist angles will be properly set. The hose is easily unclamped from the device and crimped.

  • Patent number: 7423279
Abstract: Systems, methods and sensors detect changes in incident optical radiation. Current is driven through one or more active areas of a detector while the incident optical radiation illuminates the active areas. Voltage is sensed across one or more of the active areas, a change in the voltage being indicative of the changes in incident optical radiation.

  • Patent number: 7424376
Abstract: A conduit (106), with geometry designed to enhance pressure sensitivity, is vibrated at resonance in two modes along different cross-sectional axes (a, b). Measuring the change in the frequency ratio squared of the modes yields a substantially linear relationship to pressure that is substantially immune to other material properties and other environmental factors. Moments of inertia in different cross-sectional axes are related to pressure as a result of the elliptical or oral cross section of the conduit (106).

  • Patent number: 7419087
Abstract: A collection device comprises a shell and an outlet structure. The shell has top and bottom ends, front and rear sides, and left and right sides. The front side defines a front opening, the bottom end defines a lower opening, and an interior cavity connects the front and lower openings. The outlet structure extends downwardly from the shell and has a top end defining an upper opening and a bottom end defining an exit. The outlet structure top end attaches to the shell bottom end and encircles the shell lower opening. An interior cavity connects the outlet structure upper opening and the outlet structure exit. The outlet structure interior cavity is in communication with the shell interior cavity to allow items to pass between the shell front opening and the outlet structure exit. A method of discarding waste using a collection device is provided.

  • Patent number: 7418470
Abstract: Methods and systems for parallel computation of an algorithm using a plurality of nodes configured as a Howard Cascade. A home node of a Howard Cascade receives a request from a host system to compute an algorithm identified in the request. The request is distributed to processing nodes of the Howard Cascade in a time sequence order in a manner to minimize the time to so expand the Howard Cascade. The participating nodes then perform the designated portion of the algorithm in parallel. Partial results from each node are agglomerated upstream to higher nodes of the structure and then returned to the host system. The nodes each include a library of stored algorithms accompanied by data template information defining partitioning of the data used in the algorithm among the number of participating nodes.

  • Patent number: 7412586
Abstract: The present invention provides a switch memory architecture (SMA) consisting of: (i) processing elements (PE) (ii) memory banks (MB), and (iii) interconnect switches (ISWITCH). The present invention allows for efficient, potentially unbounded data transfer between two adjacent processes by passing a memory handle and the status registers (memory control information) of the MB. This function may be performed by the ISWITCH.

  • Patent number: 7400267
Abstract: Methods for determining need for treating a vehicle travel surface include sensing, at a first time, a characteristic of a vehicle travel surface from a mobile sensor. Sensed characteristics include temperature, friction coefficient, material volumetric buildup, e.g., composition, such as an amount or percentage of ice or snow, density, depth, freeze point and chemical concentrations. The sensed characteristic is recorded as a first measurement in a database, and GIS information correlating a location with the first measurement is attached. The characteristic of the vehicle travel surface is sensed at a second time, at the location, and recorded in the database, for example as a second measurement. GIS information correlating the location with the second measurement may be attached, and the first and second measurements compared.

  • Patent number: 7396502
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing nano-sized Fe powder having a polymer coated layer on a surface thereof, so as to prevent the nano-sized Fe powder from being oxidized under atmosphere. The method includes: gasifying an iron pentacarbonyl (Fe(CO)5) or an iron acetate ((CH3CO2)2Fe) precursor in a ceramic bubbler; forming nano-sized Fe particles due to the crystallization of Fe gas while mixing the gasified precursor with Ar gas in a reactor; and precipitating the nano-sized Fe particles in a polymer solution in a chamber, before the nano-sized Fe particles are oxidized. According to this technique, Fe powder on the order of tens of nms in size, and having a polymer coated layer, are obtained from the Fe precursor. A system for producing the nano-sized Fe powder is also disclosed.
