  • Patent number: 8226693
Abstract: An orthopedic bone bridge, suitable for internally fixating and stabilizing fractured bones. The bone bridge includes: first and second bone plates for attachment to bone fragments by bone screws or the like on opposite sides of a bone fracture, a pair elongate parallel hollow legs on which the plates are mounted and the second plate is slidably engaged and is moveable with respect to the first plate, and an elastic cable or microcable attached to the first plate and extending down through the legs and around said second plate. The elastic cable is configured to provide a controlled tensile force between the plates when they are pulled into a longitudinally spaced apart position with the bone bridge then applying a correspondingly compressive force onto the bone fracture when the plates are secured to bone fragments on opposite sides of a bone fracture.

  • Patent number: 8043332
Abstract: A cable in accordance with the invention includes at least one core filament having a visually distinctive appearance; and a jacket, wrapped around at least a portion of said core filament. The jacket is adapted to change its opacity in response to tensile stress, thereby modulating the visibility of the core filament in relation to such stress. As a result, the overall appearance of the cable responds to stress, by changing at least one of chroma, hue, or value (visual appearance) quantifiably in response to tension.

  • Patent number: 7942876
Abstract: An Intra-Medullary implant includes: an elongated rigid body having a first end and a second end, adapted to be inserted longitudinally into a bony canal, the body having a generally axial passage through at least a portion of said body; at least one movable slide, movably received in said passage and adapted to be transfixed by engagement with a transverse member penetrated through the bone, said slide also adapted to receive tension from an elongated tensile member disposed longitudinally within said passage; and an anchor, adapted for fixation to the body near its first end and to said tensile member, to hold the elongated tensile member under tension between the anchor and the movable slide.

  • Patent number: 7614155
Abstract: A farrier's tool and a method of using the tool for preparing the hoof of a horse to receive a shoe. The tool is, in one aspect, a goniometer used for determining the angle of heel-toe taper when preparing a horse's hoof to receive a shoe. After the angle between the anterior surface of the first phalanx of the foot and the anterior surface of the hoof is determined, the ground-facing surface of the hoof is beveled by means of a trimming tool at an angle determined by the goniometer to reduce uneven pressure on the underlying coffin bone and to balance the tension on the tendons and ligaments in the horse's foot, particularly during locomotion. The method provides, inter alia, means for accurately aligning the hoof capsule with the coffin bone in the hoof.

  • Patent number: 7537335
Abstract: A hybrid lens for eyeglasses comprising a frame-mountable, optically transparent lens having an anterior surface and a posterior surface. The anterior surface has a surface area. A polarizing segment is affixed to the optically transparent lens such that the polarizing segment is coextensive with a midportion of the anterior surface area of the optically transparent lens wherein the midportion of the surface area of the optically transparent lens that is coextensive with the polarizing segment is less than the anterior surface area of the lens. In a preferred embodiment, the optically transparent lens has a top edge, a bottom edge and a geometric center. An imaginary horizontal centerline drawn through the geometric center divides the optically transparent lens into an upper portion and a lower portion. The polarizer segment comprising the hybrid lens is a relatively narrow, elongate horizontal strip disposed within the lower portion of the optically transparent lens adjacent to, or overlying the centerline.

  • Patent number: 7500868
Abstract: Compression-type connectors for attaching wires ranging in size from #10-16 and having stranded conductors. The connector is similar to coaxial cable connectors in that it includes a connector terminal adapter, a connector body attached to the connector terminal adapter, the connector body having an axial cavity dimensioned to receive a wire in a trailing end thereof, a centerpost disposed within the axial cavity that has a conical tip projecting rearwardly, and a compression sleeve slidably mounted either within the trailing end of the cavity or overlying the trailing end of the connector body. In one embodiment the centerpost is conical with the base of the cone disposed at the leading end of the cavity and the apex of the cone projecting rearwardly and a threaded outer surface therebetween. In a preferred embodiment, the centerpost has a straight threaded shaft with a conical tip. The connector terminal adapter is operable for attachment to a variety of conductive terminals.

  • Patent number: 7448155
Abstract: A money clip for organizing and storing paper bills such as currency. The money clip includes a single length of wire having two free ends which form a clasping portion and a flap attached thereto. The two free ends of the wire have spherical elements attached thereto to cover the free ends. The wire is folded symmetrically with respect to a straight base portion to provide a “butterfly-like” configuration; the base portion being “the body” of the butterfly, and the folded portions on either side of the base forming “the wings” of the butterfly. The flap is a substantially flat, disc-shaped member affixed to the base portion along a diameter thereof such that the base portion is substantially colinear with a diameter of the flap. A portion of the flap covers a portion of the clasping portion disposed adjacent the base portion and serves to maintain the correct orientation of the bills in the clip.

  • Patent number: 7448895
Abstract: A compression connector for a coaxial cable wherein an elastically deformable gasket is disposed inside the compression connector to provide a barrier to moisture ingress. The gasket is disposed within a cylindrical axial cavity in the trailing end of the connector body such that when the leading end of the coaxial cable is advanced into the cylindrical axial cavity, the leading edge of the coaxial cable compresses the gasket to effect a moisture seal between the cable and the wall of the axial cavity.

  • Patent number: 7364462
Abstract: The present invention discloses an improvement in coaxial compression connectors used in, inter alia, CATV, satellite, and home theater electronics. The present connectors accept a large range of cable sizes, allow replacement of the holding or compression element to accommodate a range of sizes, and allow the connector to be re-uesable. The connector comprises an attachment nut operable for electrically connecting the coaxial cable to another device, a tubular shank attached to the connector nut operable for accepting the dielectric layer of the coaxial cable therewithin, a body portion connecting the nut and tubular shank, a compression ring and an outer shell. In a first embodiment, the compression ring is a relatively short tubular member removably housed within the outer shell.

  • Patent number: 7168196
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a rotary device for external attachment to a vehicle, thereafter being operable for visually attracting attention to all or part of the vehicle, particularly when the vehicle is moving. In the most preferred embodiment, the rotary device attracts the attention of a casual observer via wind-driven rotational motion. In addition to the visual attraction caused by rotational motion, the rotary device can be shaped, decorated and strategically mounted to satisfy the particular attention-getting intent.
