  • Patent number: 7319638
Abstract: An oscillating valve driven by the pressure in a mud pulser develops a pressure variation in the mud pulse signal that is at a frequency that is different than the frequencies of the mud system. The oscillating valve is coupled to or integral with the pulse drive cylinder, whether the drive means for operation of the pulser is upstream or downstream from the orifice. A bistable valve improves performance of the transmitting element at low flow rates by providing a toggle mechanism which assures positive seating of the bistable valve.

  • Patent number: 7255670
Abstract: A three-phase decanting centrifuge is provided. Solids are removed from a slurry in the centrifuge in the conventional manner, as described above. The liquid separated from the slurry moves into a fluids reservoir. Centrifugal action classifies the fluids, with lighter fluids (typically oil) radially closer to the axis of rotation of the machine, while the heavier fluids are radially farther from the axis, i.e. at the bottom of the reservoir. Lighter fluids flow out a plurality of overflow tubes. Heavier fluids flow through a plurality of ports into a heavy fluids reservoir to be skimmed out by a pair of radially actuatable skimmer tubes. The skimmer tubes are preferably automatically operated based on the light transmissivity of the lighter and heavier fluids discharged from the machine.

  • Patent number: 7181808
Abstract: A fastener is adapted to retain one or more holes of a belt or strap beneath a belt frame without passing through the frame. The fastener comprises primarily a frame and a back plate, coupled together for relative rotational movement about an axis parallel to the axial orientation of the strap. The frame also serves as a biasing member to engage a latch mechanism. The back plate anchors the member-to-be-secured, if it is a belt. Otherwise, if the member-to-be-secured is a strap to, for example, close a pocket, then the back plate is mounted to the body on which the pocket is mounted, such as a purse or a piece of luggage. A faux tongue gives the appearance of a known buckle, but the faux tongue does not pass through the belt or strap.

  • Patent number: 7143115
Abstract: A method of updating a computer file from an old file into a new file comprises blocking the new file and the old file into fixed-size blocks, maintaining a window (collection of contiguous blocks) for each file on which lookup preprocessing has been performed, and performing match processing on each new file block in turn (comparing against both the old and new windows) using a key-sampling technique combined with approximate matching. For each new file block, the match information is then optimized for coding efficiency and encoded into a patch file that describes an algorithm for converting the old file into the new file. The patch file application method and apparatus then performs the algorithm described in the patch file. The method uses a fixed amount of random-access memory regardless of the sizes of the two files and uses no temporary mass storage.

  • Patent number: 6957147
Abstract: A seismic data acquisition unit includes a data acquisition and digital circuit which receives an analog seismic signal and digitizes the signal. The digitized seismic data uses data telemetry and a repeater device to receive the compressed data and transmit the compressed data to a seismic central control unit. The data decompressor takes the data from the data compressor and decompresses the data. The decompressed data is then compared with the original digitized data to determine the amount of noise resulting from the compression process. The compression noise is compared to the ambient noise, and if the compression noise exceeds a predefined criterion, then the compression ratio in the data compressor is adjusted for a lower degree of compression. The process is repeated until the amount of compression noise, relative to ambient noise, is satisfactory.
