  • Patent number: 7168230
Abstract: An apparatus for gathering, picking up and carrying loose materials such as dirt, leaves, debris, trash, hay, ice, snow and other materials or objects consists of two grasping elements which each have shafts with grasping devices or heads at one end, and a coupling which joins their shafts. The grasping elements can be commercially available rakes or shovels. Loose materials are gathered and picked up by placing one hand on the shaft of each grasping element and drawing the heads together. The coupling is flexible and can be moved along the shafts of the grasping elements to change the manner in which the elements function together. When the coupling is positioned at the end near the grasping heads, the apparatus functions in the manner of a post hole digger. When it is positioned near the middle or far end of the shafts, the apparatus functions in the manner of rake tongs or tweezers tongs.

  • Patent number: 7134806
Abstract: A method of repairing a road surface includes providing a hopper mounted on a spreading vehicle and means to spread material carried in the hopper over depressed areas of the road surface to fill them with the material. At ambient temperature, a batch of patching slurry is mixed comprising aggregate, asphalt emulsion, water, Portland cement, and a retarding agent operative to increase a break time of the patching slurry, and the batch is deposited into the hopper. The spreading vehicle is maneuvered to spread the patching slurry successively over a plurality of depressed areas until the hopper is empty. The ingredients of the patching slurry are adjusted to provide a patching slurry having a break time sufficiently long to allow the hopper to be emptied before the patching slurry begins to set, and sufficiently short to allow traffic to pass over a filled depressed area within a desired time.

  • Patent number: 7041518
Abstract: Provided are a low-temperature formation method for emitter tips including copper oxide nanowires or copper nanowires and a display device or a light source manufactured using the same. The low-temperature formation method includes preparing a substrate having an exposed copper surface. The copper surface contacts an oxide solution at a low temperature of 100° C. or less to grow copper oxide nanowires on the surface of the substrate. Optionally, a reduction gas or a heat is supplied to the copper oxide nanowires, or plasma processing is performed on the copper oxide nanowires, thereby reducing the copper oxide nanowires to copper nanowires. Thus, emitter tips including copper oxide nanowires or copper nanowires are formed densely at a low temperature such that the emitter tips have a shape and length suitable for emission of electrons.

  • Patent number: 7037105
Abstract: An apparatus for warming objects such as production conduits at a well site comprises an internal combustion engine driving a well pump. A heat exchanger shell is connected to an exhaust port of the engine, and has an output port. A circulating pump is driven by the engine, and a heating circuit is connected to the circulating pump such that liquid in the heating circuit is pumped from a pump output of the circulating pump through the heating circuit to a pump intake of the circulating pump. The heating circuit comprises a heat absorbing portion inside the heat exchanger shell arranged such that heat from the exhaust of the engine is transferred to the liquid therein, and a heating conduit arranged adjacent to a production conduit or other desired object such that heat from the liquid in the heating conduit is transferred to the object.

  • Patent number: 6998393
Abstract: This invention provides method for sustained release delivery of structurally delicate agents such as proteins and peptides. Using a unique emulsion system (Stable polymer aqueous-aqueous emulsion), proteins and peptides can be microencapsulated in polysacchride glassy particles under a condition free of any chemical or physical hazard such as organic solvents, strong interfacial tension, strong shears, elevated temperature, large amount of surfactants, and cross-linking agents. Proteins loaded in these glassy particles showed strong resistance to organic solvents, prolonged activity in hydrated state, and an excellent sustained release profile with minimal burst and incomplete release when being further loaded in degradable polymer microspheres. This invention provides a simple yet effective approach to address all the technical challenges raised in sustained release delivery of proteins.

  • Patent number: 6962696
Abstract: The present application discloses the preparation and use of attenuated tumor-targeted bacteria vectors for the delivery of one or more primary effector molecule(s) to the site of a solid tumor. The primary effector molecule(s) of the invention is used in the methods of the invention to treat a solid tumor cancer such as a carcinoma, melanoma, lymphoma, or sarcoma. The invention relates to the surprising discovery that effector molecules, which may be toxic when administered systemically to a host, can be delivered locally to tumors by attenuated tumor-targeted bacteria with reduced toxicity to the host. The application also discloses to the delivery of one or more optional effector molecule(s) (termed secondary effector molecules) which may be delivered by the attenuated tumor-targeted bacteria in conjunction with the primary effector molecule(s).
