Abstract: Loose parts in a shipping container can be dumped onto a table at a work station using a pivotal carrier. With the carrier in an upstanding position, a loaded shipping container can be transported into the carrier by the use of a fork lift truck. A lid on the carrier can then be lowered onto the container to retain the loose parts in place while the carrier is being pivoted to a tilted position. The lid has a parts discharge opening and a slidable closure plate that can be moved between a closed position and various partially-opened positions, to control the number of parts discharged from the container onto the work station table at any one time.
Abstract: An automotive vehicle latch system is aligned in a single operation without trial-and-error manipulations of the striker. An alignment mechanism is mounted on the vehicle body to align the striker on the vehicle body with the latch on the vehicle door. The alignment mechanism includes an elongated latch sensor having one end attached to a loosely mounted striker and another end adapted to mate with the door latch when the door is moved to a partially closed position. After the latch sensor has been locked in a proper position for alignment of the striker and latch, the door can be opened to allow the striker to be fastened to the vehicle body.

Abstract: A substantially constant resistive force is applied to the drive motor of an automated ladler arm to prevent jerky movement of the arm during a downward or descending portion of its travel from a furnace to a mold. The force may be applied through an air cylinder connected to a pivoting loader arm.
Abstract: A glove box bin is formed with a shaft upon which an elastic roller is mounted. A track is provided adjacent the bin for engaging the roller with an interference fit. The resilient compression of the roller provides a smooth and stable feel as the glove box is opened.
