Abstract: The output end of a very high speed continuous motion cylindrical can decorator is provided with unloading apparatus in the form of a continuously moving closed loop suction belt supplied by first and second continuously rotating, parallel axis, suction applying conveyor wheels. Cans held on the second wheel are on two concentric circular tracks and are transferred by suction to the belt. The first wheel carries cans along a single row circular path. In a region where the first and second wheels overlap partially, alternate cans on the path are delivered to one track of the second wheel and the remaining alternate cans on the path are delivered to the other track of the second wheel. Alternate cans supported on the first wheel may be moved radially so that the cans on the first wheel are in two rows which intersect the two tracks on the second wheel at respective common tangents of each row and the respective track.
Abstract: To minimize the presence of roll-to-roll nips in an inking system for a printing plate cylinder, an ink transfer belt transfers ink from an ink transfer roller, which receives ink from a supply, to the ink receiving elements on a printing plate cylinder. A plurality of guide rolls inside the loop of the ink transfer belt contact the drivable surface of that belt. A drive is connected with one of the guide rollers for driving it to rotate at a first velocity, which is the velocity of the ink transfer roll and of the printing plate cylinder. An ink distribution roller is disposed outside the loop of the belt in contact with the opposite, ink transfer surface of the belt and between the ink transfer roller and the printing plate cylinder. The ink distribution roller is driven to rotate at a different speed than the ink transfer belt and is also driven to vibrate or to oscillate axially for ink distribution on the ink transfer surface of the belt.
Abstract: An image of a symbol or other indicium of origin or authenticity is encrypted, and printed on the item or a label in superposition with a color mask. In a preferred embodiment, an intermediate parallax record is formed of a series of images of a symbol or other indicium, each differing from the preceding one by a predetermined amount of parallax (i.e. change of viewing angle.) A multiple exposure of the series of intermediate parallax record images is made through a lenticular screen to create the encrypted image of the indicium. The lenticular screen and the medium on which the multiple exposure is made are moved relative to each other between exposures. The encrypted image and the superimposed color mask are then printed as a composite image to produce an unintelligible criss-cross of colored lines. When viewed through a lenticular screen which matches that used to create the encrypted image, the original indicium is revealed in clear form.
Abstract: An electrolytic filter capacitor of wound elongate electrode foils and an electrolyte in a separator between the foils has very low effective series resistance and inductance by virtue of particular terminal connections to the foils. A pair of wires extend across and are joined to the foils, respectively, at corresponding locations along the wound elongated foils; the ends of the wires extend oppositely to provide four terminals for the two foils, an oppositely poled pair of terminals at each end of the capacitor.
Abstract: In a distribution circuit for connecting a load to an a-c source, it is known that a ground-to-neutral short tends to reduce the sensitivity of ground fault detectors that use a differential current transformer to sense line-to-ground leakage. A resonated coil on a core links the neutral conductor forming part of a protective device for interrupting the load circuit in the event of reduced Q of the resonated coil caused by a neutral-to-ground fault. The core must also link the line conductor, for otherwise a loop including the line, the load and the neutral would wrongly have a like effect. The same core and coil are used with a common amplifier for the neutral-to-ground fault detector and for the line-to-ground leakage detector, so that the apparatus can be economical and compact. Furthermore, so long as there is no neutral-to-ground fault, the amplifier delivers a signal of normal strength that monitors the integrity of both detectors.
