Patent number: 6661504Abstract: An optoelectronic liquid sensor indicates failure of operative components therein. The sensor includes a light source, a light detector, and a transparent probe which functions as a primary liquid sensing prism. The transparent probe is of a suitable configuration permitting internal reflection of light transmitted therethrough from the light source, along a primary light path for reception by the light detector, when the light-impinged surface of the primary prism is in air. When the same surface of the probe is submersed in or exposed to liquid, light from the light source traveling along the primary light path is refractively transmitted into the liquid, and therefore almost no light reaches via the primary light path. A secondary light path is provided, along which a fraction of the light from the light source is also transmitted via internal reflection within a transparent body to the light detector.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2002Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Inventor: John Rakucewicz

Patent number: 6562423Abstract: A sports memorabilia article includes a casing at least partially enclosing a sports-related subject to be displayed. The casing is transparent at least over a sufficiently large area portion to permit external viewing of the subject held therewithin. The casing is given the appearance of a particular type of ball suited to use in playing the sport to which the subject displayed within the casing is directed. To achieve such appearance, the ball is either texturized in a manner giving the desired visual impression, silkscreened or otherwise painted either on an exterior surface of the casing or an interior of the transparent portions thereof, or embossed in a pattern resembling seams and other distinguishing surface details characteristic of such ball structure. The combination of subject and surrounding case provides a multilayer visual effect which amplifies the effectiveness of the display, and elicits greater interest and viewing entertainment on the part of the observer.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2001Date of Patent: May 13, 2003Inventor: Matvey Rubin

Patent number: 6355349Abstract: A coated cable includes a structural core made of twined wire or other suitable material, and an outer layer surrounding the structural core, such outer core being transparent to light. The cable further provides a material which is reflective to incident light, effective to reflect light from the cable in a manner discernable to an observer. In an advantageous embodiment, this is accomplished by a reflective layer interposed between the structural core and the outer layer, the reflective layer being provided in the form of a wrapped tape disposed below the outer layer.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1999Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Inventor: Jeffrey J. Chizmas

Patent number: 6257098Abstract: A collation feature permits rapid substitution of like size tool members between the families of tools by comparison of a common visual indicator assigned to commonly sized members of analogous tools having differing structural configuration. The visual indicia, advantageously disposed in a prominent position on the tool for unobstructed viewing, and includes at least one non-numerical identifying parameter, in the form of a color, combination of colors, and/or recognizable pattern. When a user of such tools discovers that he requires a different style wrench better suited to the application, he simply notes the pattern or color marked on the tool he is using and requests, for example, that his assistant hand him a differently configured tool designed for performing the same tool operation and carrying the same visually recognizable marking.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1996Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Inventor: Paul F. Patent number: 5781977Abstract: An tool for installation of a ball joint into an interference-fit accommodating hole in a control arm of a vehicle is provided, which operates as an integrated unit. A body of the ball joint compressor includes an upper and a lower support, spaced apart and fixedly interconnected by a pair of bilateral supports. A movable compression member is mounted to the body of the ball joint compressor, to allow movement thereof between the upper and lower supports along a central vertical axis. An advancing screw is threaded through the lower support, providing a means by which movement may be imparted to the movable compression member. The upper support includes an upper stop extending downwardly and including a cavity for receiving a portion of a ball joint which protrudes through an accommodating hole in a control arm during compression. This configuration allows the upper stop to contact the control arm from above, adjacent to the accommodating hole for the ball joint.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1995Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: Lawrence I. Patent number: 5598620Abstract: A tool for adjusting camber includes a body terminating at a forward end in a downwardly turned portion, and an advancing arm, slidingly mounted to the body, and forwardly extendable therefrom. The advancing arm may be advanced or retracted with respect to the body, for example, by rotation of a lead screw. A crank is disposed at an opposite end of the body from the downwardly turned end for rotating the lead screw. The leading edge of the advancing arm is designed to provide a stop against a part of the vehicle fixed with respect to the wheel, conveniently the strut. In operation, a level is attached to the center of the wheel to be adjusted, to indicate a desired setting. The downwardly turned portion of the body is hooked over the top of the wheel and the advancing arm is advanced until it is in engaged contact with the strut. Camber bolts holding the wheel in position are then loosened.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1995Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Assignee: Lawrence I. WechslerInventor: Pedro A. Servones

Patent number: 5573547Abstract: A method of fixation for use within animal and human bodies provides for the insertion of brushes, of cylindrical and conical designs, into openings wherein bristles of the brushes are deflected by walls of the openings such that the brushes are locked in place and resist forces applied thereto. An embodiment of the invention includes boring a hole into a cancellous bone structure and inserting a brush into the hole. The hole is of a smaller diameter than the brush and is locked in the hole by the bristles. Tissue, such as tendon, may then be attached to material affixed to an end of the brush. Another embodiment of the method includes insertion of a brush into a blood vessel such that the blood flow is either occluded or strained by the bristles of the brush.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1993Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Inventors: Harry H. Patent number: 5349402Abstract: A data imprinting device for a camera has a light source, a diaphragm member, and an optical member mounted on support structures integrally formed in a body of the camera. Another embodiment of the invention includes first and second optical members for imprinting data at two respective locations, upon a film, corresponding to full size and panorama size modes of operation. A shutter slides to obstruct emergent light from one of the first and second optical member thus disabling it from imprinting. The first and second optical members are integrally formed in a bracket structure which is mounted in a body of the camera. Embodiments includes the first and second optical members having emergent planes equidistant from the film. The first and second optical elements have incident planes either offset in a direction parallel with the film or perpendicular to it.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1993Date of Patent: September 20, 1994Assignee: Nikon CorporationInventors: Isao Soshi, Hidenori Miyamoto, Motoyuki Ohtake, Hiroshi Wakabayashi
