Abstract: A new article of manufacture in the form of a hollow, biaxially oriented, article such as a container, formed of a composition comprising a copolyamide of hexamethylene terephthalamide and hexamethylene isophthalamide, the ratio of terephthalic acid to isophthalic acid used in forming the copolyamide being between about 1.0 to about 1.9. The article is preferably heat set and optically clear where oriented and can be functionally in hot fill and autoclave food packaging applications.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling anodic protection of a heat exchanger using two reference electrodes disposed at opposite ends of the heat exchanger.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the recovery of heat from a sulfuric acid process are provided. Sulfur trioxide is absorbed into hot concentrated sulfuric acid, acid having a concentration greater than 98% and less than 101% and a temperature greater than 120.degree. C., in a heat recovery tower and the heat created by the exothermic reaction is recovered in a useful form in a heat exchanger.
Abstract: A twin-sheet thermoformable laminate structure is provided which has two layers of foamed thermoplastic material. A coating of a fabric impregnated with an acrylic resin having a softening temperature greater than 75.degree. C. is applied to at least the outer surface of each layer of thermoplastic material.
Abstract: Thermoforming of styrenic foam laminates having at least one outer layer of polyurethane foam having an outer facing of decorative fabric. Prior to thermoforming the laminate is heated to at least the thermoforming temperature of the styrenic foam but to a temperature such that the decorative fabric is not degraded. The thermoforming process is useful in making automobile headliners.

Abstract: A fiber bed separator formed of a bed of staple fibers is provided. A discontinuity is created within the bed of fibers at a selected location to improve the drainage of liquids from the fiber bed.
Abstract: A collapse resistant polyester container is provided for hot fill applications employing product fill temperatures up to about 190.degree. F. (87.8.degree. C.) or more. The container has at least one region which is thermoelastically deformable inwardly after the container is hot filled and sealed to offset the pressure forces which tend to collapse the container as the contents cool and create an internal vacuum. The thermoelastic region is preferably formed in a two step molding process in which the region is formed and heat set at a first position and then reformed outwardly to a second position and cooled in that position.

Abstract: A moisture-resistant, moldable, thermoformable laminate structure and method of making same is disclosed. The structure comprises a layer of a foamed thermoplastic material having first and second surfaces and a coating of acrylic resin, having a softening temperature greater than approximately 130.degree. C., impregnated fabric bonded to said first and second surfaces.
Abstract: This invention provides a method of removing heat from the process gas in a sulfuric acid plant having interpass and final absorption towers by indirect heat exchange with a liquid without condensing acidic vapors from said process gas. The method comprises installing first and second economizers, the second economizer having first and second sections for liquid flow. The process gas flow through the first economizer before passing through the interpass absorption tower and through the second economizer before passing through the final absorption tower. A liquid flows through the first and second economizers for indirect heat exchange with the process gas, the liquid passing sequentially through the second section of the second economizer, the first economizer, and the first section of the second economizer.
Abstract: A thermoformable laminate structure with improved acoustical absorption is provided which has a first and a third layer of foamed thermoplastic material and a second layer, intermediate the first and third layers, which is a material having acoustical properties different from the properties of the material of the first and third layers. A portion of the surface area of each layer is adhesively bonded to the adjacent layer. A resin impregnated fabric is bonded to the outer surfaces of the first and third layers.
Abstract: A shell and tube type of economizer is divided into first, second and third sections. Gas flow through the economizer flows sequentially through the first, second and third sections. The liquid first flows through the second section and then through the third and first sections. The second section serves as a preheater to increase the heat recovered from the gas stream.
Abstract: An apparatus for the removal of particulates from a flowing gas stream and a process for its use are provided. A perforated screen separator formed as a plate having parallel rows of perforations formed by pushing alternating strips of the plate material forward and backward from the plane of the plate is used. The perforated screen separator may be used alone or with a fiber bed mist eliminator for increased particulate removal.
Abstract: An insulated wire having a controlled specific gravity is provided. The wire is manufactured by surrounding an electrical conductor with a layer or a closed cell foam and a sheath. The density and outer diameter of the layer of closed cell foam are controlled to provide the desired overall specific gravity of the insulated wire so that the insulated wire will float on the interface between two immiscible fluids which have different specific gravities.
