Abstract: A fusion comb is a single comb which houses two separate and independent combs. Each independent comb has a manually operated plunger which forces a hair product through the comb and out of a set of outlets in the teeth of that comb. By withdrawing the plunger, liquid is suctioned through the teeth and into the comb.

Abstract: Temporary safety zones are established by deploying a plurality of safety icons connected by extensible, brightly colored, retro-reflective tapes. The tapes are retracted within the housings of the safety icons. A plurality of modules having different functions are removably affixed to the base of the safety icons, the modules including sensors, beacons, transceivers, detection devices, and audio receivers and video cameras. Because the modules are manually interchangeable, the safety zones can be implemented for specific, interchangeable circumstances, e.g., a surveillance station, portable helipad, landing strip, and restricted area barriers.

Abstract: A self-closing vent has its frame and honeycomb screen coated with an intumescent material. When affixed to an external wall or eave of a building, the vent is normally open, allowing free flow of air into and out of the building, but when exposed to the heat of a fire, such as a wildfire, the intumescent expands to close the vent, thereby preventing an external fire from entering the building.

Abstract: An auxiliary step is primarily designed for facilitating entering and exiting the bed of a pickup truck. The step includes a shank for coupling a supporting post to an existing trailer hitch. A step is rotationally and linearly slidable on the supporting post for universal adjustment relative to the truck bed.

Abstract: A collapsible traffic control cone includes a lane marker for delineating lines of demarcation between lanes approved for traffic flow and areas where traffic is prohibited. When in use, the lane marker extends from a rotatable housing mounted on one of the cones and is releasably attached to an anchor on an adjacent cone. The lane marker is a flat, highly reflective web which lies flat on the roadway between the cones. In the event of a cone being tipped over from its base or when not in use, the lane marker retracts into its housing. A light responsive to oncoming traffic is also provided.

Abstract: A wand-type magnetic metal detector has a telescoping wand which shortens the wand sufficiently for the detector to be comfortably carried in a holster carried on the user's body. The user's hands are thereby freed for other tasks than carrying the detector.

Abstract: A toe guard is made of a flexible sheet of plastic, is U-shaped in longitudinal cross-section, is open in the back and both sides, and is contoured on its upper and lower surfaces to fit the top and bottom of a foot comfortably. The front of the toe guard is solid and is spaced from the toes when attached to the foot. The toe guard is attached by means of a wide strip of adhesive tape wrapped around the tongue and base of the guard in the vicinity of the instep and ball of the foot. The tape prevents the toe guard from slipping longitudinally on the foot. The toe guard protects the toes from a frontal impact and from blows from the top, bottom, and sides of the toe guard. The toe guard is initially wider than the foot for which it is designed and can be trimmed to fit the intended user's foot. Being flexible, it spreads to fit on the ball and instep, generally conforms to the shape of the foot, and bends with the foot when walking.

Abstract: In a turkey call, the gripping force of the sounding block on the vibratory rod is controlled, so that the length of the rod which protrudes from the resonant chamber of the sounding block can be adjusted by hand while in the field.

Abstract: A coupler for electrically connecting two coaxial cables together is disclosed. The coupler includes a body and a turret which are rotatable relative to each other. One cable is attached to the body and another is attached to the turret, so they are also relatively rotatable. Electrical connectors are provided on the coupler to mate with the connectors on the cables. A variety of connector sizes and types are possible.

Abstract: A motorcycle jacket which has turn signal lights attached to the back of the jacket in the upper left and right shoulder areas. The lights are electrically connected to the motorcycle electrical system, so that when the motorcycle turn signals are actuated, the jacket turn signals will flash in synchronism with them.

Abstract: A portable kit for promoting oral hygiene includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, and dental floss compactly arranged in one portion of a housing which outwardly resembles a fountain pen. The kit may also include a canister of breath spray in another portion of the housing.

Abstract: A music teaching method utilizes a musical notation sheet to depict a song and a keyboard for playing the song. The notation sheet has a staff having a single line with numbers printed above and below the line. The numbers correspond to both the fingers of the hands (1-5 from thumb to pinkie) and ten consecutive white keys on a keyboard. Suitable symbols indicate both hands and keyboard. The student is directed to place the hands on the keyboard with the each numbered finger on the same numbered key and to depress that key when its number appears on the music sheet using the fingers of the left hand for the numbers below the staff line and the fingers of the right hand for the numbers above the staff line.

Abstract: A radio link is established between the portable receiver used by an operator to trace the underground portion of a utility and the transmitter which induces a magnetic signal in the utility. Circuitry in both transmitter and receiver allows the operator who is remote from the transmitter to interrogate the transmitter from the receiver for essential information and to control operating functions at the transmitter. Such operations as changing the transmission frequency of the generator, conserving batter power by switching the transmitter's frequency generator to and from a power saving standby mode during periods of non-use, checking on the power level of the battery, and determining if the transmission circuit is complete and unbroken can be effected without the necessity of the operator returning to the site of the transmitter.

The interior resonant cavity is free of protusions with the exception of the bass bar, soundpost, endpin support, and endpin.

Abstract: A digitized image is treated by an electronic system where pairs of pixels within a convolution window are compared, and for those differences which are greater than a preselected, or automatically calculated, threshold, a black or white vector is counted, respectively, depending on whether the more centrally located pixel is darker or lighter than the outer pixel. The central pixel is replaced with an enhanced value, if it is surrounded by a majority of significantly lighter or darker pixels, as indicated by the black and white vector counts. Weighting factors allows for custom tailoring the enhancement algorithm to suit the need of the particular image.

Abstract: A conventionally shaped skateboard is divided into three sections, one section measures at about half the length of the skateboard, a middle section measures at approximately the height of the truck and wheel assembly, and a third section constitutes the remaining length of the skateboard. The three sections are hinged together to form a folding skateboard such that when the skateboard is folded, the trucks and wheels of the skateboard are adjacent each other in the interior of the J-shaped configuration of the folded skateboard. The sections are locked in an extended, aligned orientation to form a usable skateboard in three embodiments by clips which fit onto the side edges of the skateboard deck and in a fourth embodiment by rods which fit into and slide within cylindrical grooves formed on the bottom of the skateboard deck.

Abstract: A driver for securing pre-wired threaded fasteners to the ceiling of a building structure includes a driver head, a pre-wired fastener held by the driver head, and a telescoping pole connected to the driver head. The driver head is a solid, cylindrical rod or shaft having a kerf opening through the top of the shaft and extending axially therefrom, the kerf extending either partially or completely across the diameter of the shaft. The kerf includes a tapered recess opening axially through one sidewall of the shaft. A blind recess shaped to receive the flat head of a threaded fastener also opens through the top of the shaft and intersects the kerf substantially orthogonally. The threaded fastener is pre-wired with a wire which has a closed loop at one end, the loop being off-set from the major lineal direction of the wire. When the head of the threaded fastener is fit into the blind recess, the wrap of the wire is loosely constrained against lateral motion by the tapered recess.

Abstract: A dual beam spectophotometer is described in which a beamsplitter is at least partially surrounded by a chopper, the combination of which provide sample and reference beams. An oscillating grating produces a monochromatic light beam scans a selected spectral range of wavelengths. The movement of a second chopper and of the oscillating grating is controlled to alternately pass sample and reference spectrums for detection by a detector and to block all radiation. Detected signals are processed for storage by suitable electronics and a computer. The electronics also control the motion of the oscillating grating and chopper. A set of beamsplitters with distinctly different sample-to-reference beam ratios are provided to add versatility to the spectrophotometer.

Abstract: A bidet attachment is built into a toilet seat, which toilet seat includes a chamber opening to the sides of the seat. The bidet attachment includes a spray nozzle connected to a water supply via lines and valves. The nozzle rotates from a storage position within the chamber of the seat to a use position over the toilet bowl. The supply lines and valves are housed within the seat with the threaded water inlet connectors and flow control knobs extending exteriorly of the toilet seat.
