Abstract: An improved meat tenderizing system is provided in which a pair of oppositely positioned carriage assemblies, each carrying a number of needle manifolds, is operated to align injection needles with a carcass that is conveyed in a longitudinal path intermediate the carriage assemblies. At least some of the needles are pivotable so as to direct the injection needles into the carcass at a desirable angle.A metered amount of tenderizing solution is automatically fed to the needle manifolds when the needles enter the carcass. After the metered amount of solution has been injected, the needles are automatically withdrawn and the carcass is conveyed for further processing.
Abstract: A system and method is provided which has the general capabilities of measuring the speed of coagulation, congealing or solidification of a fluid sample, and which has particular utility in the measurement of the time required by a sample under test to increase viscosity to a particular level. The system and method to be described is predicated on a viscosity principle, and it includes a movable magnetic member suspended in the fluid sample and which changes position when the sample achieves a predetermined degree of viscosity. The change in position of the aforesaid member is photoelectrically or electromagnetically detected, and the time at which the change occurs, is used in the determination of the time required, for example, for the sample to form a fibrin clot, in a blood or plasma sample or to effect a particular reaction causing solidification or congealing of the sample.

Abstract: A dilute, aqueous solution of cellulase enzyme complex is applied to the wet paper web during paper manufacture to improve the disintegratability of the paper during subsequent disposal.
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a method for collecting blood plasma in plastic bottles wherein the blood plasma can be stored for periods of time and can then be utilized in obtaining blood fractions therefrom. The method includes the concept of filling a previously sterilized and hermetically sealed bottle with blood plasma. The bottle, after filling, is sealed at the neck portion thereof by means of heat sealing. The portion of the bottle above the heat seal is severed. Thereafter, the filled bottle is frozen and transported to the site for use. The bottle containing the plasma is then thawed and conveyed to a plasma removing device. The plasma is removed by severing a portion of the bottom of the plastic bottle, thereby permitting the liquefied plasma to flow therefrom into a collection vat.
Abstract: A method of fractionating coagulation factor-depleted blood serum or plasma by selective precipitation with block copolymers of ethylene oxide and polyoxypropylene polymer to provide immunoglobulin preparations, albumin-containing fractions and organ perfusates.
Abstract: A method of immunodiffusion for determination of proteins of low concentration in biological fluids employing a gel medium containing 2.5-5% block copolymer of ethylene oxide and polyoxypropylene polymer.
Abstract: Homogeneity of bulk control serum is determined when making production fills of clinical chemistry control serum using a radioactive tracer in the bulk control serum tank. A radioactive tracer is added to the control serum along with any other added constituents. After standard bottles are filled, they are analyzed for radioactivity in a radiation counter for measuring the amount of radioactive tracer in each bottle and thereby determining the homogeneity of the contents of the bottles.

Abstract: There is disclosed a package comprising a rack and a surrounding cover therefor. The rack has a top surface which slopes downwardly from front to rear. This top surface has a plurality of recesses or wells into which small receptacles may be inserted and thereby supported in the rack. The said receptacles are sufficiently large so that they visibly protrude from the rack. As a result of this protrusion of the receptacles the cover has a hood-like configuration to make allowance therefor. The rack also has a rearwardly positioned slot means to receive and support a diagnostic plate and a forwardly positioned trough to hold a tube member.
