Abstract: The present invention describes electroformed thin-wall nickel cutting saws or blades that are impregnated with diamond abrasives. The thin-wall saws are formed with a plurality of raised portions and an equal plurality of recessed portions, with each raised portion alternating with a recessed portion, the raised and recessed portions are substantially parallel and are connected by transition portions. In another embodiment, some of the transition regions are formed with intermediate steps or partially raised and recessed portions. These intermediate steps or partially recessed and raised portions allow more uniform distribution of matrix material across a kerf width D1 as the cutting saw is spun, thereby, giving the cut edge a substantially square profile.
Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for analysing a heart signal from a beating heart, the method comprising: collecting the heart signal, performing a cluster analysis of the signal to identify the first heart sound and the second heart sound, determining an energy envelope for each of a plurality of regions in the signal, determining the area of each of the energy envelopes, and classifying features in the signal by an analysis incorporating at least the areas, whereby one or more characteristics of the heart can be determined.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for remotely directing a mobile phone to divert a phone call or a short message directed to the mobile phone to a designated recipient. The method comprises the following step of: sending a commanding message to the mobile phone, wherein the mobile phone has a registered remote command program with an algorithm that enables the mobile phone to receive and process the commanding message; and wherein the commanding message has a command executable by the remote command program; thereby the mobile phone will divert any phone call or short message for the mobile phone to the designated recipient.
Abstract: A genetic algorithms rostering system (20) with a workload and shift setting optimizer (22), a GA rostering engine (24) and a storage medium (26) is described. The GA rostering engine (24) dynamically shifts one or more shift lists of an initial shift list matrix based upon a shifting factor associated with each of the shift lists. Thereafter, the GA rostering engine (24) obtains an intermediate shift list matrix that is then fine-tuned by swapping individual shifts for each of the shift lists in the intermediate shift list matrix. A swapping factor for fine-tuning is associated with each of the shift lists and indicates a gene group with two or more genes. Each of the genes in the gene group is associated with an individual shift. Output of the rostering system (20) are rosters (28) represented in a matrix form.

Abstract: There is disclosed an inspection system that combines 2-D inspection and 3-D inspection of the components of an electronic device into one compact module. The inspection system of the present invention comprises a 2-D image acquisition assembly for inspecting 2-D criteria of the components, a 3-D image acquisition assembly for inspecting 3-D criteria of the components, and a computer for control and data analyzing. The 3-D image acquisition assembly comprises a 3-D image sensor and a 3-D light source. The 3-D light source is preferably a laser capable of generating a planar sheet of light that is substantially perpendicular to the inspection plane of the electronic device. The 2-D image acquisition assembly comprises a 2-D sensor and a 2-D light source positioned above the holder. The 2D and 3D image acquisition assemblies are arranged so that the 2D inspection and 3D inspection can be done while the electronic device is being held in one location.
Abstract: The present invention provides a unique low cost vision inspection and classification system and methods for automatic inspection and classification of a microarray slide without manual intervention. The method first performs morphological dilation operation several times such that internal microarray spots are merged as a big connected component; then, the orientation of the merged spots, with respect to the X-axis and Y-axis is computed by computing the angle of the external boundaries of the connected component using Sobel XY operators for both edges and orientation determination, or using the moment-based algorithm for direct orientation determination; and the translational offset is determined by finding the X and Y centroids of the connected component. Moreover, the present invention provides threshold methods for classifying spots into normal spots, weak spots, missing spots, or overlapping spots.
Abstract: Contaminants from surfaces of temperature sensitive substrates, such as glass substrates are removed by exposing the surfaces to a hydrogen Surface-mixed diffusion flame for a predetermined duration of time. The predetermined duration of time being insufficient to heat up the surfaces substantially thereby causing damage to the temperature sensitive substrates.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling a 2-piece skin door comprising a bottom skin (10) and a top skin (20) wherein each of the bottom and top skins' longitudinal edges have been bent and folded to complementarily hem each other in an interlocking manner to form a seam, the method including: holding the bottom skin in an upwardly open pan manner; holding the top skin in an inverted pan manner wherein its folded and hemmed edges are aligned with the corresponding edges of the bottom skin; and pushing the top skin to insert said top skin's folded edge into the bottom skin's corresponding folded edge to form said interlocking seam. The bottom skin may be held securely on a substantially planar surface with securing means. The top skin may be provided with means for pulling it in alignment towards the bottom skin by winch and cable with hook means.
Abstract: The present invention provides unamount head/arm subassemblies and read-write head stack assembly for a disk drive, and a servowriter having the head stack assembly. Each head/arm subassembly is assembled and aligned individually so that multiple head/arm subassemblies can be installed on a mounting block to build the head stack assembly with all heads being properly aligned. In addition, each head/arm subassembly can be disassembled independently, facilitating easy rework on individual defect head.
Abstract: The present invention provides a timetabling system based on an improved ant colony optimization using pheromone and hybrid heuristics based cooperating agents. The timetabling system can provide an optimal timetable solution for a timetable problem that consists of a plurality of activities, each activity being scheduled to a start time within a planning period and being allocated all required resources from a plurality of sets of resources. In one aspect of the present invention, the timetabling system comprises an electronic device having a memory capacity that contains a storage medium, and a timetabling module being implemented in the electronic device.
Abstract: The present invention uses a method of processing signals in which signals received from an array of sensors are subject to system having a first adaptive filter arranged to enhance a target signal and a second adaptive filter arranged to suppress unwanted signals. The output of the second filter is converted into the frequency domain, and further digital processing is performed in that domain. The invention is further enhanced by incorporating a third adaptive filter in the system and a novel method for performing improved signal processing of audio signals that are suitable for speech communication.
Abstract: The present invention provides a hub/clamp assembly for holding a disk hub in position when the hub is spin in a high speed. The hub/clamp assembly comprises of: a removable disk hub having a shaft for stacking a plurality of storage disks, a flange portion integrally attached to one end of the shaft, and an extension shaft integrally attached to the flange portion opposite to the shaft; wherein the axes of the shaft, the flange portion, and the extension shaft are in alignment; and a hub clamp housing having a housing with side walls and top and bottom surfaces, and a clamp means disposed within the cavity formed within the housing. The present invention also provides a multi-disk servowriter for writing servo information onto multiple storage disks at the same time.
Abstract: A high-speed fastener inspection system is provided to perform 100 percent inspection of various geometry features and to sort a large number of fasteners at high speed. The inspection system includes a rotary table having an outer periphery, an inner periphery, and a plurality of radial slots extending from the outer periphery to the inner periphery. When a fastener is be placed in a radial slot with the head of the fastener facing upward and the shank extending into the slot, the side view of each fastener is unobstructed. A loading mechanism, an anti-jam mechanism, and a sorting mechanism are arranged along the outer periphery of the rotary table. At least one vision inspection camera is provided for capturing the image of each fastener after each fastener is placed in a radial slot. An image analyzer is operatively connected to the vision inspection camera for analyzing the captured image and to determine whether the fastener is defective.
Abstract: The present invention provides a precise marking apparatus for performing precise marking on an object and methods of using the same. The precise marking apparatus comprises an object input handler and an object output handler for handling the object; a transport system for transporting the object handlers during a marking process; a vision inspection unit for capturing and/or processing the image of the object; a marking system for marking the object; and a control unit for receiving information from and sending instructions to other components of the precise marking apparatus. The present invention also provides a precise placement apparatus for precise marking and/or precise packaging an object and methods of using the same. The present invention further provides a precise marking and placement apparatus for performing precise marking on an object and precise placement of the object for final packaging and methods of using the same.
Abstract: The present invention provides a Chinese lunar calendar-based tidal prediction system and method that generate tidal predictions using empirical prediction models, wherein the empirical prediction models are generated using Genetic Algorithms-based regression analysis for a given set of observed tidal data collected at a water level station during a period of one year which is referred as reference year. In one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a tidal prediction system comprising an electronic device having a memory capacity as a storage medium for storing input, intermediate, and output information, and a processing capacity for executing embedded programs; a regression model creator program; and a tidal height predictor program; wherein both of programs are implemented in the electronic device.
Abstract: A singulation saw for sawing either substrate or wafers includes a pair of counter-rotating saw blades mounted for independent movement in a vertical direction for alternatively engaging with a substrate to be singulated. The singulation saw further includes a transport system including a pair of substrate carriers reciprocates the substrates. While the first substrate is being cut, the second substrate or other substrate carrier sequentially unloads a cut substrate, loads a new uncut substrate and then moves the uncut substrate to a vision system for determining the position of the substrate relative to the second carrier and then positions the second carrier and its substrate in a standby position ready to be cut by the pair of saw blades that are cutting the first substrate. As the first cut substrate is moved to an unload position, the new uncut substrate is moved into a cutting position.

Abstract: A hybrid non-abrasive electrical test contact element of a test socket is taught. Unlike cantilever contact elements of the prior art, the contact element of the present invention is able to contact a lead of an integrated circuit device under test without abrading the plating on the lead. This is achieved by the contact element possessing multiple loops to allow the tip of the contact element to move not only downwards, but also sideways in a rocking and non-sliding motion. The tip of the contact is also shaped to contact the lead at only a radius corner of each lead so as not to affect the solderability of the lead. In addition, tests have shown that the contact element of the present invention has at least twice the working life span compared to another contact element of the prior art.
