  • Patent number: 5511311
Abstract: A knife having a sliding blade which may slide from a retracted position to an extended position. A locking member is pivotally connected to the blade and travels with the blade as the blade moves within a handle. A finger on the locking member engages with a recess to selectively lock the blade within the handle. By rocking the locking member forward, against the pressure of a spring, the blade is pushed outwardly from the handle until the finger automatically seats in an extension notch provided in the handle. Retraction of the knife is accomplished by rocking the locking member forward and pulling rearwardly thereon to force the blade back into the handle. A sheath for the knife engages the locking member to automatically lock the knife within the sheath upon insertion into the sheath. Upon extraction of the knife from the sheath, the blade is automatically extended.

  • Patent number: 5497896
Abstract: A container opener for use with a container top having a depressible closure member. A first member is connected to the container top adjacent the closure member. Movably connected to the first member is a second member which may be moved outwardly from the top of the can by pivoting or sliding such that a portion of the second member extends beyond the edge of the can. A fastener is provided which allows lateral movement of the second member with respect to the first member, but fixes upward movement of the second member with respect to the first member such that the first and second members move together when the second member is lifted, thereby increasing the available leverage for opening the can.

  • Patent number: 5490696
Abstract: A door locking system for attachment to an outwardly opening door which engages the door frame and which has a panic bar movable towards the door for disengaging the locking system. The locking device includes an outer sleeve fixedly mounted to the interior surface of the door and extending over one side of the door frame. An inner sleeve is provided within the outer sleeve which is pulled outwardly to a door frame engagement position, wherein the inner sleeve extends over the other side of the door frame to prevent the door from being opened. Movement of the panic bar towards the door causes the inner sleeve to retract into the outer sleeve, thereby allowing the door to be opened. A reset system is provided for automatically resetting the lock when the door is closed.

  • Patent number: 5477591
Abstract: A bearing device for use in textile drafting roller pairs for supporting the top roller of a drafting roller pair. The bearing device finds particular use with magnetic drafting rollers, but can be used with other types of roller configurations. The bearing device allows for the top roller to be selectively positioned with respect to the bottom roller in order to allow removal of the top roller and to prevent deformation of cots or aprons provided thereon during machine stoppage. A rotating debris excluding interface is also provided through interaction of the bearing device and the end of a roller. Handles are attached to the bearing device for allowing extraction of the top roller from a roller pair, and ribs may be provided on the bearing device or receptacle therefor to facilitate piecing up of a broken yarn. Related methods of use of the bearing device are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5388310
Abstract: An autoleveller derives the signal for its draft correction from an averaged value of the sliver weight or thickness signals in each of a plurality of unit lengths of the sliver path. A preferred embodiment uses upstream and downstream sliver weight or thickness measuring means to derive signals for a draft correction and the gain of a draft correction made in response to the first sliver measuring means is varied in response to the averaged signal from the second sliver measuring means.
