  • Patent number: 4750664
Abstract: The present invention proposes an apparatus or jig for the controlled spot heating of a substrate having soldered components therein and a designated locus to be heated for removal and/or replacement of a component. The apparatus comprises a frame and support means on the frame for holding and positioning the substrate with the locus to be heated along a designated axis of the frame. A rail at one end of the frame parallel to the designated axis holds a heating arm. The heating arm extends along an axis perpendicular to the designated axis and can be positioned along the rail. The heating arm ends in a directing means that is positioned over the designated axis and directs a heating medium, e.g. infra red radiation or a heated gas, onto a locus to be heated. The directing means limits the area of the application of the heating medium to only that area necessary for removal of the component.

  • Patent number: 4745756
Abstract: A HDR closed loop geothermal steam generating system comprises of three large vertical bores driven in solid rock to a depth of 2 to 3 miles and terminating in an enlarged bottom chamber from which a series of horizontal tunnels radiate. A plurality of small bores are then driven down from each horizontal tunnel to a depth where the rock temperature is high enough for steam generation. A steam generating chamber is placed at the foot of each small bore to which feed water is supplied. Steam is piped from the steam generating chambers to a common header in each horizontal tunnel. Each header feeds into a steam riser in one of the large vertical bores which conveys the steam to the surface. Steam condensate is recycled as feed water without the need of pumps.

  • Patent number: 4742605
Abstract: A safety release device particularly useful for tethering horses comprises a cylindrical housing, a central shaft therein having on one end a spring retainer/trigger and on the other end a capture washer held by a stop or shoulder on the shaft, a spring between the retainer and the washer, two opposed spring loaded capture dogs engaging the capture washer and preventing it and the shaft from being pulled from the housing until released and fastening members, one attached to the end of the shaft and another attached to the housing to permit lines to be attached thereto. The operation of the device is such that when a sufficient pull is exerted on the shaft, the spring compresses allowing the retainer/trigger to move toward the capture washer against the action of the spring and in so doing to force the dogs apart releasing the washer and thus the shaft.
