  • Patent number: 6371199
Abstract: This invention provides heat transfer systems and methods of cooling surfaces and heating liquids which employ surfaces including a minimum density of discrete, nucleation sites having a conical cross-section tapering to a minimum predetermined depth. These surfaces are placed in contact with a refrigerant having a preselected boiling point so that the nucleation sites become largely flooded with the refrigerant. The nucleation sites permit nucleate boiling of a refrigerant without a temperature overshoot on the initial ascent. In more preferred variations of this invention, specific site spacing and geometries are employed to contain tiny bubble embryos, which minimize hysteresis and reversal of trend effects.

  • Patent number: 6371556
Abstract: A seat cushion is to pivot to be in a horizontal reversed state and it has a back side. A seat back is to pivot to be in a horizontal reversed state and has a reverse side. The reverse side in the horizontal reversed state has a height substantially equal to one of the back side of the seat cushion in the horizontal reversed state. An arm is attached to a lower end of the seat back and supports the lower end of the seat back to be rotated. A roller is fixed to a lower end of the arm and projects outward in a transverse direction of a vehicle body. A slide rail is fixed to a floor and engages with the roller to be slid forward and rearward. A lock mechanism detachably engages with the roller. A back link is connected to an intermediate fulcrum of the seat back above the roller and is connected to one of an intermediate portion of the slide rail and a peripheral member around the portion. A stopper is provided at the lower end of the seat back.

  • Patent number: 6358915
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for determining degree of integrin-mediated maintenance of cell invasive capacity of tumors, and to methods and compositions for inhibiting or preventing metastasis of cancers. In one aspect, the invention provides a method to determine degree of integrin-mediated maintenance of cell invasive capacity of epithelial derived tumors, particularly prostatic, breast, and lung cancers. In these regards, the invention relates to determining protein or mRNA of effectors of integrin-mediated maintenance of cell invasive capacity, particularly uteroglobin protein or mRNA, or to gauge degree of integrin-mediated maintenance of cell invasive capacity of prostatic, breast, or lung tumors. The invention also relates to methods and compositions, such as uteroglobin, which specifically bind to integrin and are effectors of integrin-mediated maintenance of tumor cell invasive capacity and thus inhibit metastasis.

  • Patent number: 6288036
Abstract: The substitution of the L-Pro at the 7-position with D-Phe or D-Tic and substitution of the L-Phe at the 8-position with hydroxyproline ethers and thioethers of the peptide hormone bradykinin and other additional substituted analogs of bradykinin converts bradykinin agonists into bradykinin antagonists. The invention further includes additional modifications at other positions within the novel 7- and 8-position modified bradykinin antagonists, which increase enzyme resistance, antagonist potency, and/or specificity of the new bradykinin antagonists. The analogs produced are useful in treating conditions and diseases of a mammal and human in which an excess of bradykinin or related kinins are produced or injected as by insect bites.
