  • Patent number: 6349332
Abstract: Management functionality in a communications network is integrated using a design module for constructing a management information base (MIB). A unit of manageable physical resources is represented in the MIB by a management unit comprising a collection of managed objects representing actual physical and logical resources in the network. The functionality provided by those physical and logical resources is represented separately and independently from the objects representing those physical and logical resources. A realisation model associates classes of objects representing the functionality with classes of objects representing the physical and logical resources. In an embodiment, an Application model represents the functionality of network resources. An Implementation model represents the actual, specific implementation of how that functionality is carried out. A set of realisation associations links an application model to an implementation model to form a realisation model.

  • Patent number: 6349090
Abstract: In a telecommunications network comprising a plurality of nodes (N1, N2. . . ) interconnected by communications links (L1, L2. . . ) each incorporating one or more communications channels, traffic routing between network nodes is determined by providing a map or model of the network and determining in the model first and second nodes between which a communications path or route is to be established across the network. A set or colony of exploratory agents is created at the first node, and explores the model network via the links and nodes between the first and second nodes, each agent recording the results of its exploration. From this exploration, a route favoured by a significant number of the agents is determined and is set up on the telecommunications network.

  • Patent number: 6348856
Abstract: A system for determining the position of a labelled object within an environment containing a plurality of detectors sensitive to energy of a first type and located at known positions therearound, wherein the object has a transmitter for transmitting energy of the first type, and each object is labelled by means of a receiver forming part of a communication link with a remote controlling transmitter for triggering the object-mounted transmitter. The transit time between the transmitter and each detector is used to determine the straight line distances between the object and the receivers, to enable the position of the object relative to the receivers to be determined. The arrival and departure of an object into and from the environment is determined by a second communication link from a second transmitter on each object, to a remote receiver. The two communication links may be combined in a bi-directional radio communication system.

  • Patent number: 6346186
Abstract: A method for electrochemical phosphating of metal surfaces, particularly stainless steel, in connection with cold forming of metal workpieces, which method provides the cold formed workpiece with a lubricant after phosphating, involves an electrochemical phosphating through a cathodic process applying an aqueous phosphating solution containing 0.5 to 100 g Ca2+/l 0.5 to 100 g Zn2+/l 5 to 100 g PO43−/l 0 to 100 g NO3−/l 0 to 100 g ClO3−/l and 0 to 50 g F− or Cl−/l by which the temperature of the solution is between 0 and 95° C., the pH-value of the solution is between 0.5 and 5, and the current density is between 0.1 and 250 mA/cm2. This gives a good lubrication effect, a good adhesion to the metal surface, particularly stainless steel, and a more expedient texture than ordinary phosphating.

  • Patent number: 6347006
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for generating a control signal for at least one periodic filter arranged to filter the optical profile of a signal, at least one of the phase and the amplitude of the filter being tunable, the apparatus comprising an optical waveguide for receiving a portion of said signal, optical filtering means connected to said waveguide for filtering the received portion, and arranged to act as a first and second periodic filter, each having substantially the same period as the filter to be controlled, the phase between the periods of the first and second filters being a non-integer of &pgr;, and optical power measuring means arranged to measure the optical power of the signal transmitted by said optical filtering means. A method is also described for determining such a control signal. Such periodic filters can be used to flatten the gain profile of an optical amplifier.

  • Patent number: 6327877
Abstract: A device for obtaining festoons mounted on crochet machines for warp weaving comprises a curling hook engaged on a respective hook-holder block, a first motor, a second motor and a programmable electronic regulating unit. The first motor is operatively engaged to the curling hook and the second motor is operatively engaged to the hook holder block. The electronic unit activates the second motor to translate the hook and activates the first motor to curl the woof thread engaged on the hook itself by rotating the latter. The electronic unit, the positioning of the hook in the ending position and the rotation of the hook according to the distance assumed with respect to the needles of the machine. The electronic unit controls in synchronism to the motors, also, a cop-holder bar to produce a festoon having twisted threads of variable length.

  • Patent number: 6325170
Abstract: A hydraulic vehicle drive, particularly for mobile hoisting platforms, has a first pair of wheels drivable by first wheel motors in dependence of a first control valve and a second pair of wheels provided with second hydraulic motors. A switching arrangement short-circuits the second hydraulic motors in the driving-free state and for cooling supplies them with a flushing flow. In the driven state a second control valve, in dependence of which the second hydraulic motors are drivable, is activated, and if required connected with the first control valve. Thus, optionally, the first wheel pair can be driven alone or together with a certain driving output from the second wheel pair.

  • Patent number: 6325541
Abstract: A resealable closure for a bag is described wherein the bag has upper and lower ends and including a front wall member, a back wall member, and opposite side wall members. The lower end of the bag is sealed in conventional fashion. The upper ends of the wall members are folded downwardly adjacent the front wall member to form a flap which extends across the upper end of the bag with the upper flap being permanently sealed, by an adhesive, to the front wall member except for a flap portion adjacent one of the side wall members. The resealable closure is positioned between the flap portion and the front wall of the bag and permits the flap portion to be opened to form a pour opening in the upper comer of the bag. The flap portion may be resealed by the resealable closure. The closure is designed so that the contents of the bag will not come into contact with any sticky or tacky surface as the material is being poured from the bag.
