Patent number: 7072669Abstract: Systems and methods for localizing the position of a wireless device using a plurality of coordinated highly directional or adaptive antennas to detect signals from the wireless device. Because of the directional nature and/or adaptive processing of the antennas, off-angle multipath signals resulting from reflection and scattering as the wireless signal propagates through a cluttered environment are rejected by the antennas and processing. As a result, the antennas pass primarily direct path signals from the wireless device to the location estimator. The time of arrival of the signal and the angle of arrival at each antenna are used to in the location estimator to calculate the position of the wireless device. Various robust inversion techniques may also be applied to the data to minimize the effect of residual multipath-corrupted detections. Furthermore, the systems and methods include specialized wireless devices that provide locating signals and signals related to the biological condition of their owner.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2003Date of Patent: July 4, 2006Assignee: Verizon Corporate Services Group Inc.Inventor: Gregory L. Patent number: 7039164Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for reporting to subscribers, wireless network events in a plurality of formats and languages depending upon the particular subscriber group to which a wireless subscriber belongs. When a subscriber requests a call, a switching node in the network invokes a trigger that identifies a location register for routing the call and sends a route request to the location register. While processing the route request, if the location register detects an event that would prevent the call from being routed, the location register identifies the subscriber group of the wireless subscriber and determines a directory number associated with the identified subscriber group and the detected event. The location register then returns the determined directory number to the switching node. Using the determined directory number, the switching node establishes the call to a message node, where a message associated with the determined directory number is executed.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2000Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: GTE Wireless Service CorporationInventor: Walter Wesley Howe

Patent number: 6993026Abstract: Supporting virtual private networks by using a new layer 3 address to encapsulate a network-bound packet so that its context information, from which a layer 2 (e.g., MAC) address can be derived, is preserved. If this encapsulation was not done, the layer 2 address would change over each segment of the network. Thus, the encapsulation preserves the concept of group identification, using at least a part of the context, over the entire network and not just at the edge of the network. If a packet is received from the network (to be forwarded to a customer), the layer 3 address that was added in the encapsulation is stripped off. The original layer 3 destination address may be used with a client device addressing table to determine a new context information, and a layer 2 (e.g., MAC) address of a destination client device.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2000Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Assignee: Verizon Communications Inc.Inventors: Robert T. Baum, Eric A. Voit
