  • Patent number: 4356493
Abstract: A probe excited, open-end waveguide which can be used as an independent antenna, or as a launcher for an end fire, radiator and which achieves higher gain than conventional waveguides without an increase in size. The waveguide is formed as an elongated metallic container which includes a metal structure positioned within the container spaced from the side walls of the container and located within one half of the volume of the container, this volume being defined by cutting the cylinder along its elongated axis. A probe extends from the metal structure for excitation of the waveguide. An electronics package, conventionally utilized in conjunction with the waveguide can be positioned in the container within or under the metal structure. The electronics package does not interfere with the operation of the antenna. The antenna achieves higher gain as a result of the presence of the metal structure.

  • Patent number: 4290068
Abstract: A microwave television system comprising, a probe excited waveguide, an electronics circuit package contained within the waveguide, and a support for mounting the waveguide. The probe excited waveguide is an open-end waveguide which can be used as an independent antenna or a launcher for an end fire radiator, and which achieves a higher gain than conventional waveguides without an increase in size. The waveguide is formed of an elongated metallic container and includes a metal structure positioned within the container spaced from the side walls of the container and located within one half of the volume of the container, this volume being defined by cutting the cylinder along its elongated axis. A probe extends from the metal structure into the other half of the container for excitation of the waveguide. The electronics package conventionally utilized in conjunction with the waveguide can be positioned in the container beneath the metal structure.

  • Patent number: 4213621
Abstract: A multi-jaw chuck having a centrifugally-actuated attachment for counterbalancing the adverse effect of centrifugal force on the chuck jaws during high speed operation. The chuck attachment includes an annular, hollow housing coaxially mounted on the chuck body and a lever associated with each of the jaws of the chuck which is pivotally mounted in the housing for pivotable movement about an axis parallel to the chuck body axis. Each of the levers includes a first pivot arm, disposed on one side of the pivot axis, for engagement with the jaw associated therewith and a second pivot arm, disposed on the other side of the pivot axis. The second arm has an effective length and weight such that it moves outwardly from the axis of the chuck body as a result of the centrifugal force developed upon rotation of the chuck body and, in turn, urges the first arm into engagement with the jaw associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 4163218
Abstract: An electronic control system which can control the operation of a number of electrical devices such as lights, outlets, sensing apparatus, etc., all of which are energized from the same power lines. Each of the electrical devices is respectively connected to the power lines by an addressable switch unit. A central control unit is connected to the power line and generates a binary coded time division multiplex signal, including an address portion and a command portion. The encoded signal is transmitted directly onto the power lines and is received by the addressed switch, which responds to the command to control the state of the electrical device, and in turn sends a status response onto the power lines which is received at the central unit.

  • Patent number: 4119970
Abstract: An omnidirectional broad band antenna employs a slot and a pair of radiating arms excited by the slot. In one embodiment slots are formed in a coaxial transmission line and covered by a resin bonded filament wound glass fiber tube which serves as an integral radome and permits pressurization. The arms are of substantial girth and arc upwardly, downwardly respectively and circularly, one clockwise and the other counterclockwise thus providing a large spacing between arms. The antenna is characterized by a broad bandwidth and low VSWR.

  • Patent number: 4111124
Abstract: The method hereof, conducted at the factory or site of printing of the wall covering, advantageously uses the same work or printing station reference that accurately positions the imprinted pattern on the wall covering substrate for the positioning of cutting means effective to sever said substrate free of the opposite unprinted selvage areas. Thus, although the substrate, which typically is a 100-foot strip, may be inadvertently slightly misaligned from a perfectly straight orientation, the cutting means nevertheless effectively moves along that path which accurately slits free the selvages of the "misaligned" substrate because it is guided by said imprinting reference during said movement.

  • Patent number: 4102235
Abstract: A practice pad for a drum or similar percussion instrument of the type fabricated of a construction material having sound-muffling characteristics and used in a directly supported position on the playing head of the drum, in the use of which all auxiliary structure to hold the pad on the drum vibrating playing head, and thus keep it in place, is eliminated. This is done simply by the advantageous selection of an appropriate weight oil-tanned leather as the construction material for the pad. In use, this specifically selected material has the proper weight to dampen, and thus muffle the drum auditory output and, also, by its sheer weight maintains a flat, surface-to-surface contact with the vibrating drum playing head, thus obviating any need for appropriate clamps or other structural members which typically are attached to the drum and to the pad.
