Patent number: 8171419Abstract: The method of managing media files remotely on a portable electronic device having the touch screen display includes storing a composite media file index that lists all media files, and their attributes, whether stored on the portable electronic device or accessible at a remote computing device. The method continues by rendering a graphical user interface for a media manager application, operable to access the stored media file index, on the touch screen display. At least one activation touch event is then detected on the touch screen display, and in response to the at least one activation touch event, a group of media files having shared attributes are displayed within the graphical user interface, and at least one media file is identified for download from the remote computing device. The at least one media file is then downloaded during synchronization of the portable electronic device to the remote computing device.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2008Date of Patent: May 1, 2012Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Alen Mujkic, Michael Langlois, Edward Eric Thomas, Arun Kumar

Patent number: 6608788Abstract: An architecture and method for fast precharge of bitlines in a densely packed, dynamic content addressable memory is disclosed. The dynamic content addressable memory cells are arranged according to an open bitline architecture to obtain high packing density. The bitlines are precharged through equalization between every two adjacent open bitline pairs. More specifically, a bitline and its adjacent neighboring bitline on the same side of the bitline sense amplifiers are equalized at several locations along the bitlines such that they are equalized at high speed, which is typically not available in open bitline architectures. Hence the adjacent bitlines are precharged in a manner similar to a folded bitline architecture. Additional equalization circuits are connected between the complementary bitlines of each open bitline pair, therefore during the precharge phase, all four bitlines of the two open bitline pairs are equalized with each other.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2002Date of Patent: August 19, 2003Assignee: Mosaid Technologies IncorporatedInventors: Peter P Ma, Abdullah Ahmed, Valerie L Lines

Patent number: 6584036Abstract: Generally, the present invention provides memory controller for providing a synchronous SRAM interface to an embedded SDRAM. To achieve maximum performance SDRAM timing, row circuitry is emulated in the controller to produce SDRAM control signals. Control signal timing is optimized for read and write operations and can be flexibly adjusted using control registers. Since the timing of DRAM control signals is based on the embedded DRAM timing emulation, all margins can be minimized and the performance of the memory can be maximized. The SRAM interface can operate in a wide range of clock frequencies, which are not restricted to ratios of multiples of the embedded DRAM clock frequency.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: ATMOS CorporationInventors: Wlodek Kurjanowicz, Jacek Misztal

Patent number: 6584003Abstract: A low power CAM architecture is disclosed. Matchlines of the CAM array are sequential into a main search portion and a main search portion. After issuing a search command, a main search operation is conducted on the main search portion of the matchline. If the result of the main search is a match, then the main search is subsequently conducted on the main search portion of the matchline. If the result of main search is a mismatch, then the main search is disabled, and consequently there is no power dissipation on the main search portion of the matchlines. Main search and main search operations can be pipelined to maintain high throughput with minimum latency. Power consumption is further reduced by using a matchline sense circuit for detecting a current on the main search and main search portions of the matchline.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignee: Mosaid Technologies IncorporatedInventors: Jin-Ki Kim, Peter Vlasenko, Douglas Perry, Peter B. Patent number: 6542249Abstract: The apparatus and method measure the three-dimensional surface shape of a surface without contact with the surface, and without any physical constraint on the device during measurement. The device is a range-sensor or scanner, and in one embodiment is a laser-camera sensor, which has a portable camera and multi-line light projector encased in a compact sensor head, and a computer. The apparatus provides three-dimensional coordinates in a single reference frame of points on the surface. The sensor head does not have to be physically attached to any mechanical positioning device such as a mechanical arm, rail, or translation or rotation stage, and its position in three-dimensional space does not have to be measured by any position-tracking sensor. This allows unrestricted motion of the sensor head during scanning, and therefore provides much greater access to surfaces which are immovable, or which have large dimensions or complex shape, and which are in confined spaces such as interior surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1999Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: The University of Western OntarioInventors: Jonathan D. Patent number: 6538947Abstract: A method for detecting n match conditions within a CAM array. The method consists of precharging a sense node and a reference node of a differential amplifier in an inactive state to a supply voltage level. The reference node voltage level is then changed to a reference voltage level between a voltage level corresponding to n match condition signals and n−1 match condition signals by turning on a reference device, The sense node voltage level is changed to a voltage level corresponding to a number of match condition signals by turning on a corresponding number of matchline devices, and the reference voltage level is compared to the voltage level corresponding to the number of match condition signals by switching the differential amplifier to an active state. An output signal corresponding to the result of the comparison is then provided from the differential amplifier. The method can further include a step of switching the differential amplifier to the inactive state when the output signal is provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Mosaid Technologies IncorporatedInventors: Abdullah Ahmed, Valerie L.
