Patent number: 8281711Abstract: A feed head for a strapping machine includes a frame, a feed wheel, a tension wheel, and a feed and take-up motor mounted to the frame and operably connected to the feed wheel. The feed and take-up motor operates in forward and reverse directions to feed strapping material through the strapping machine, and to take up strapping material from the strapping machine. A tension motor is operably connected to the tension wheel and operates in a reverse direction to tension the strapping material around the load. The tension wheel is movable toward and away from the feed wheel and engages the feed wheel during strap tension and disengages from the feed wheel during strap feed. A pivot assembly operably mounts the tension motor and tension wheel to the frame to move the tension wheel toward and into engagement with, and out of engagement with the feed wheel.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2011Date of Patent: October 9, 2012Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: James A. Patent number: 8187399Abstract: A label applicator system transfers labels from a web to items moving on a rotary item transport. The applicator system includes a supply for supplying the web with the labels thereon and a take-up for taking up the web after transfer of the label from the web to the item. The supply and take-up are vertically oriented. The applicator includes a movable label applicator head. A rotary table moves the items along a path defined by rotation of the table and rotates the items relative to an axis of the items. The label applicator head is movable toward and away from the item and the item is rotated to apply the label to the item as it moves passed the applicator head.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2009Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Krzysztof P. Patent number: 8015671Abstract: A plastic strap particularly useful for automated strapping machines is formed with an integrated, longitudinally disposed rib for enhancing the stiffness of the strap. The strap is formed with at least one rib extending longitudinally from a first end of the strap to a second end of the strap. The rib preferably extends upwardly from the top surface of the strap and comprises, preferably, a slight arcuate profile. The profile of the rib, the number of ribs, and the location of the ribs on the strap may vary depending upon the desired longitudinal stiffness of the strap and the desired width and thickness of the strap. The ribs may be centered across the width the strap or offset. The strap further comprises side panels that are parallel to the longitudinal plane of the strap and outer edges that are generally perpendicular to the longitudinal plane of the strap. The geometry of the strap prevents the strap from twisting and permits overlapping sections of the strap to interlock and self-align during sealing.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2007Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Timothy B. Patent number: 7827977Abstract: The present invention provides for a collapsible locking slingshot having a quick-release interchangeable band replacement safety system. The present invention also includes a self-centering, open-pocket slingshot pouch and a unique dual-tapered band. The slingshot collapses into a lockable case, improving the slingshot's safety, and enhancing the protection and longevity of the slingshot's components. The slingshot incorporates a unique shoot-over design in which the arms generally are parallel to the shooter's arm during operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 2008Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Saunders Archery CompanyInventor: Charles Saunders

Patent number: 7428865Abstract: A strapping machine includes a frame, a vertically movable upper carriage, a strap chute including an upper leg mounted to the movable upper carriage, a pair of spaced apart compression plates mounted to the movable upper carriage for vertically compressing the load and a pair of side squaring elements movable toward and away from one another configured figured for horizontal movement to contact the sides of the load. The side squaring elements are disposed between the compression plates. The machine is controlled by a control system such that following a first strapping cycle and prior to a second strapping cycle the control system generates a signal to raise the compression plates from the load about 3 inches and a to move the side squaring elements away from the load about 3 inches. The machine includes a corner pad applicator assemblies for applying a corner pad at each of the upper corners of the load prior to positioning, tensioning and sealing the strapping material to itself about the load.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2007Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Calvin E.
