Abstract: An improved process for the production of a hopped malt beer wherein a processing liquid containing riboflavin is hopped to form the desired beverage. The improvement comprises subjecting that processing liquid to an effective amount of actinic radiation of a wavelength adapted to decompose the riboflavin and thereby reduce the amount thereof, whereby a beer having enhanced light stability is obtained.

Abstract: The invention is a digital sounder module and its method for detection. The digital sounder module includes a sonar carrier wave producing means, a band-pass filter, a pre-amplifier for providing a high sensitivity and extending a wide dynamic range, and an analog-to-digital converter for providing a digital implementation of a superheterodyne detector and producing an intermediate frequency. The digital sounder module also includes a programmable logic device for controlling a gain of the pre-amplifier and for digitally filtering the intermediate frequency and a microprocessor. The method implemented by the controlled per-amplifier gain processes the return echo signal by controlled ramp up of the gain over time to compensate for the change in signal strength in proportion to the length of the return path.
Abstract: A dispensing device comprising a base, a cover and a valve, in which the cover is releasably attached to the base by means of first hinge means, the movement of the cove defined by first hinge means operating the valve, and in which the cover is attached to the base by means of second hinge means, the movement of the cover defined by second hinge means exposing the base for loading or unloading a container of material to be dispensed, said movement defined by second hinge means only being possible when the cover is detached from the first hinge manes.
Abstract: The invention is a centerwinder for receiving and winding web material sequentially on one of at least two fixed shafts. The two or more shafts are desirably positioned vertically to one another in a stationary structure and eliminate the need for a powered turret assembly. A lay-on roll assembly can be used that pivots in and out as well as up and down for serving the respective shaft locations. A cylinder linkage provides the same or constant force against the winding roll on either the upper or the lower shaft. Transfer rolls in desirable embodiments are automatically pivoted into the proper position for a fully automatic transfer or to assist the operator during a manual cut and transfer.
Abstract: Chlorite-like phyllosilicate materials are found useful as SOx sorbents. A novel process of sulfur oxide sorption is provided utilizing these layered materials as contact solids. Typical industrial applications include sulfur removal from fluid catalyst cracking process, cold-side combustion gas sulfur abatement and cleaner coal gasification.

Abstract: The invention relates to a new conjugate, based on triiodomethane, which also contains at least one natural organic and/or modified natural organic and/or inorganic thickener. Cellulose ethers or starch ethers are particularly suitable for use as the thickener. Said conjugate can be used as a disinfectant and can be introduced into ointments or creams. As a hydrogel containing water and a solvent in addition to the conjugate, with a viscosity of between 5,000 and 400,000 mPa*s (20° C.), preferably between 10,000 and 30,000 wPa*s (20° C.), the product is extremely suitable for use as a disinfectant cleaner and hygiene product for cleaning and maintaining animal horn for example of horses, cattle and sheep. In addition, the hydrogel can contain at least one polyalcohol, in particular glycerine. According to one production method, a hydrogel is produced from water and a thickener and the polyalcohol is fast added thereto at a temperature of between 20 and 60° C.

Abstract: A cervical immobilizing device includes a pair of arms that can be folded to an upright position to engage and support a patient's head, an actuating device for folding the arms to the supporting position, and a locking device for locking the position of the arms in the folded supporting position. The actuating device is coupled to the outer ends of the arms for folding the arms to an upright position symmetrically and uniformly. In one embodiment, the actuator device is flexible member that passes around a guide to a position which can be gripped by the user. The locking device can be a cinching, ratcheting or clamping device, or a combination thereof, on the actuator device. In one embodiment, the folding arms include a coupling device for coupling the arms to a base in a sliding arrangement to enable the arms to slide along the base to a folded position. A blank is also disclosed that can be folded to form the cervical immobilizing device.

Abstract: The present invention provides a device and method for selectively removing an article from a stream or line of similar articles travelling in a pathway on a transport system such as a conveyor. The invention utilizes a synchronous electric motor which, in response to a signal to reject a specific article in the stream, rotates an article-contacting member or paddle into the path of the stream of articles travelling along the pathway whereby it contacts and smoothly removes that article from the stream. The use of a synchronous motor to effect the rotation of the paddle is very important to the present invention.
Abstract: The invention is a compound and method for enhancing the immune system. The compound is extensin or a combination of (a) pectin or polysaccharides found in the pectic molecule and (b) extensin. The method for cytotoxic enhancement of lymphocytes requires ingesting a therapeutically effective amount of extensin or a combination of pectin or polysaccharides found in the pectic molecule and extensin to enhance the activity of the immune system. The invention also relates to a method for preparing a therapeutically effective pharmaceutical for the cytotoxic enhancement of lymphocytes.
Abstract: An improved cervical collar comprised of an elongated neck encircling band, a chin support brace, a sternum and shoulder brace and an adjustment system secured to the sternum and shoulder brace and the elongated neck encircling band for adjusting the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band. The adjustment system is designed to lock the sternum and shoulder brace in position preventing further extension of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band as well as preventing retrograde movement of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the neck encircling band. The collar also comprises a positive alignment tracking system for maintaining the sternum and shoulder brace in parallel alignment with the elongated neck encircling band as the height of the sternum and shoulder brace is adjusted.
