  • Patent number: 5613501
Abstract: The present invention provides a face support device specifically for the purpose of facilitating surgery on humans in the prone position providing for the complete relief of pressure to the areas of the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth of a patient. The face support has a concave curved upper portion, a concave lower surface and a central opening for avoiding pressure on the eyes, nose and lips of the patient, while providing for increased support with decreased pressure and skin shear experienced by the patient's face in contact with the face support.

  • Patent number: 5609635
Abstract: The present invention is directed to interbody spinal fusion implants having a structural configuration that provides for the maintaining and creating of the normal anatomic angular relationship of two adjacent vertebrae of the spine to maintain and create spinal lordosis. The spinal fusion implants of the present invention are sized to fit within the disc space created by the removal of disc material between two adjacent vertebrae and conform wholly or in part to the disc space created. The spinal fusion implants of the present invention have upper and lower surfaces that form a support structure for bearing against the end plates of the adjacent vertebrae. The upper and lower surfaces are disposed in a converging angular relationship to each other such that the implants of the present invention have an overall "wedged-shape" in an elevational side view.

  • Patent number: 5607133
Abstract: Apparatus and method for use in holding a cylindrical tank secure and preventing it from being dislodged during an earthquake is disclosed. A pair of mounting brackets are attached to a supporting surface on either side of the cylindrical tank through holes in the mounting brackets by threaded bolts. An adjustable stabilizer bracket is positioned between the cylindrical tank and the supporting wall to keep the cylindrical tank from moving towards the wall. The adjustable stabilizer bracket adjusts to accommodate a variety of different sizes of cylindrical tanks and has angled end portions to conform to the shapes of the different cylindrical tanks. The mounting brackets are pivotally attached to a securing strap, that has a series of holes in it for receiving a bolt. The securing strap is fitted around the cylindrical tank to secure it in place.

  • Patent number: 5562550
Abstract: A computerized golf handicap system comprising a central processing unit (CPU), a touch-screen monitor, an electronic card and a card reader/writer module having proximity recognition means for transceiving data from the electronic card is disclosed. The electronic card has an antenna and a ferroelectric memory chip that is capable of storing a golfer's pertinent data and together with the card reader/writer module functions as the primary means for automatically entering such data into the CPU without making physical contact by waving the electronic card in proximity to the card reader. Any additional data not stored in the electronic card is entered manually via the touch-screen monitor. A golfer's handicap index and index month are automatically updated by the golf handicap system of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 5555578
Abstract: A linen securing device for securing bed linen, such as sheets, blankets and/or comforters to the mattress of a bed is disclosed. The linen securing device of the present invention comprises a strap that is mounted diagonally across the corner area of the bottom surface of a mattress in at least one corner of the mattress. The strap has an interior surface facing the bottom surface of the mattress and an exterior surface, may be elastic, at least in part, and serves to secure the corner area of a sheet against the bottom surface of the mattress. During use of the linen securing device of the present invention, a flat bed sheet is draped across the top surface of the mattress. The corner area of the sheet is gathered and is placed over the exterior surface of the strap of the linen securing device and is then tucked underneath the linen securing device strap in a "reverse tuck" position between the interior surface of the strap and the bottom surface of the mattress.

  • Patent number: 5551901
Abstract: A buoyant device used as a marker in the water for use in water sports is disclosed. The buoyant device comprises an inflatable buoyant member having one end coupled to an elastic cord which is coupled to an accompanying anchoring bag that is weighted down. The overall length of the elastic cord is varied according to the depth of the water with a self-locking length adjusting device used to vary the overall length of the elastic cord to eliminate any slack in the elastic cord in shallow waters in which the depth is less than the overall length of the elastic cord and when water currents change.
