  • Patent number: 4525183
Abstract: A series of valves are disclosed which are specially designed for use in desiccant dryers. Each of the valves utilizes a housing (12), fabricated of standard pipe components and communicating flanges (13, 14) in conjunction with a poppet (24) and seat (20) arrangement. A support (30) fixed to one side of the interior of the housing carries an axial rod (23) to which the poppets (24) are mounted. Two- and three-way valves include a piston (36) and cylinder arrangement within the support to actuate the poppets. The poppet (224) of the check valve (200) is actuated automatically in response to pressure differentials across the poppet.

  • Patent number: 4525628
Abstract: An improved scintillator for a solid state radiation detector useful in CT (computed tomography), DR (digital radiography), and related technologies. The scintillator, rather than being grown as a single crystal, is formed by means of hot pressing or sintering, as a polycrystalline ceramic. Rare earth oxides doped with rare earth activators are selected to yield a cubic crystal structure of high density and transmittance, which satisfies radiation detector requirements better than crystals utilized heretofore.

  • Patent number: 4524793
Abstract: An automatic valve for bleeding air from liquid or with reversal of the principal elements, vice-versa. In an embodiment for bleeding free air from a hydraulic fluid reservoir or the like, a capillary extends through a movable piston in series with an orifice to differentiate between hydraulic fluid and air due to differences in the pressure drop across the capillary which results from differences in the viscosity of the fluids attempting to pass therethrough. When air, having relatively low viscosity, flows through the capillary, the differential pressure across the capillary and, accordingly, across the piston, is low and the valve remains open to bleed the air. When hydraulic fluid attempts to pass through the capillary, however, the differential pressure thereacross due to the fluid's relatively high viscosity is sufficient to move the piston and close the valve.

  • Patent number: 4523995
Abstract: Filter media comprised of charge modified, resin coated inorganic microfibers are prepared by mixing inorganic microfibers with an aqueous solution of a water soluble, noncolloidal cationic thermosetting binder resin to form a dispersion, following which a precipitating agent is added to precipitate the binder resin and coat the microfibers. The coated microfibers may be used in the dispersed or suspended form as a filter aid. Preferably they are formed into a filter sheet which is then dried and cured to form a filter sheet of narrowly distributed pore size, pore sizes as small as one-half micron, and having a positive zeta potential in alkaline media. Glass is the preferred microfiber and polyamine-epichlorohydrins the preferred resins. By providing the normally negative zeta potential microfibers with a positive zeta potential the binder resins used to coat the microfibers substantially enhance particulate removal capabilities of the microfiber filter sheet.

  • Patent number: 4523665
Abstract: A control apparatus for elevators in which one cycle of a fluctuating demand is divided into a plurality of sections, the demand in each section or a service condition value of the elevators for the demand is measured, the demand or the service condition value of the corresponding section is estimated from the measured value, and decision means is comprised to compare the estimated value and the measured value obtained anew and to decide the compared result, so that when the compared result has been decided to fail in satisfying a reference condition, cages are controlled with a value set separately from the estimated value or a value separately calculated for estimation. This brings forth the effect that, even when the measured value has become different from an ordinary value due to the occurrence of a special traffic condition, it is not used for the calculation of the estimative value, so as to permit an accurate estimation when an ordinary traffic condition has been thereafter restored.

  • Patent number: 4523490
Abstract: A gripping mechanism is mounted on a carriage and is adapted to be shifted back and forth along an inverted L-shaped path to pick up and transfer parts. Inverted L-shaped cam tracks are formed in a main support member and receive and guide rollers which support the carriage. The cam tracks and the rollers are arranged to allow the rollers to roll freely without skidding while preventing radial play between the rollers and the tracks. A flexible drive linkage is connected between the carriage and its actuator and is capable of yielding in both directions in order to prevent damage to the actuator if the carriage becomes jammed when the carriage is being either advanced or retracted. Before being picked up by the gripping mechanism, the parts are held in a track by an escapement having spring-biased fingers adapted to move between open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 4524418
Abstract: A demand estimation apparatus for controlling machines according to revised estimated demand values wherein estimated demand values are calculated by dividing demand cycles which are fluctuating similarly cyclically into a plurality of sections (time zones), an adjusting section is interposed between each two sections adjoining each other, and an estimate of the fluctuation of the demand is determined based on measurements of both the demand value of the adjusting section and the demand values of the two adjoining sections, and wherein the estimated demand value of each adjusting section is compared with the estimated demand values of the respective two adjoining sections and, based on the comparison, each adjusting section is moved as a whole toward one of the adjoining sections by a predetermined time width when the estimated demand value of the adjusting section more closely approximates the estimated demand value of that one of the adjoining section than the other adjoining section, thus modifying the tim

  • Patent number: 4523509
Abstract: The invention relates to an automatic shoulder arm, such as a machine gun, which can be changed over to semi-automatic fire, burst and automatic fire. In order to reduce the ammunition consumption in the automatic fire mode and to increase the hit rate, the weapon is provided with a mechanism regulating the cyclic rate of fire (27, 21 to 25) which reduces the cyclic rate of fire in the automatic fire position by means of a deceleration member (27) releasing the next shot. A hammer (14) acting upon a firing pin (10) when a shot is released is preferably releasable by deceleration member (27), which hammer is provided with an additional detent (24) being effective in the automatic fire position and disengageable by deceleration member (27) via a deceleration release lever (21). • Patent number: 4523749
Abstract: The work clamps of a punch press are mounted in laterally spaced relation on a carriage which may be shifted to cause the clamps to re-position a workpiece relative to the punch. To enable automatic adjustment of the lateral position of the clamps on the carriage, each clamp is adapted to be selectively and automatically locked to or released from the carriage. When released from the carriage, each clamp is adapted to be automatically held in a stationary position so that the carriage may be shifted relative to the clamp to permit re-positioning of the clamp along the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4524326
Abstract: An electrical circuit and method for multiplying an analog input signal by a sinusoidal function having an instantaneous phase specified by a number signaled in binary format. As a sine wave generator, the binary number is supplied by a counter clocked at a multiple of the desired sine wave frequency. The most significant bit of the counter modulates the polarity of or actually constitutes the analog input signal which is then fed to a numerically-controlled attenuator driven by the less significant binary counter outputs. The attenuator has selectively switched resistors with values specifying a sine table of attenuation from 0 to 90 degrees. A particular resistor is selected by an analog multiplexer having paired complementary outputs so that over the range of less significant bit values, a full 180 degrees of the sinusoid is generated.
