  • Patent number: 4138176
Abstract: A drawer mounting arrangement of the type which includes a pair of slider elements mounted on the drawer and a pair of rail elements mounted on the drawer frame for slidably supporting the slider elements. A first of the elements has a pair of longitudinally-extending first flanges, while a second of the elements has a second flange that extends between the first flanges and that has an enlarged rounded distal end. The first flanges can be formed with ridges to provide a narrow contact area with the enlarged rounded end of the first flange. A pair of low friction plastic spacer elements lie at either side of the wooden drawer to keep it spaced from the sides of the frame and provide low friction guiding of the drawer.

  • Patent number: 4124119
Abstract: An automobile carrier is disclosed for use on two standard air cargo pallets to carry four automobiles. The carrier for two automobiles is affixed across two pallets with one automobile over the other, and the carrier for the other two automobiles is affixed across the pallets beside the first. The carrrier can be dismantled for shipping back to the starting point. Upon erecting the carrier for reuse, a variety of adjustments can be made for mixing automobile sizes on the top and bottom. These adjustments also keep the combination of any four automobiles within the dimensional limits of the pallets, the aircraft door opening and the ground equipment.

  • Patent number: 4120012
Abstract: Magnetic recording media called diskettes comprise a flexible magnetic disk which is enclosed in a jacket. The jacket has at least two openings therethrough. One of them is at the center on each side to enable the diskette to be engaged by a hub for rotating it, the other two are at opposite sides and comprise elliptic shaped openings which afford access for the reading head and for the pressure pad to opposite surfaces of a diskette. This invention provides doors which automatically cover the head and pressure pad access openings, except when a diskette is inserted into the reading mechanism at which time the door is automatically opened to enable the indicated access to the disk surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4119029
Abstract: A character belt for use in a high speed impact printer comprises an endless band having an outer surface on which equally spaced cylindrical sleeves are formed so as to surround central portions of cylindrical slugs extending across the width of the band. Each slug has a raised type character on at least one end face thereof. The band and sleeves are integrally formed in a molding operation which yields a band which is relatively flexible about an axis extending parallel to the band's axial direction and relatively rigid about a line coincident with the circumference of the band. The plastic material selected to form the belt preferably exhibits good elastic damping characteristics and high abrasion resistance along the band inner surface. A high tensile strength core material is embedded in the band for dimensional stability.

  • Patent number: 4119007
Abstract: A pressure transducer comprised of a piezoresistance bridge on a semiconductor chip is employed as a pressure sensor in musical instruments having an air column through which pressure variations pass in producing sounds, such as in wind instruments and drums. A noiseless voltage preamplifier couples the transducer to a power preamplifier the output of which may then be amplified in a conventional audio amplifier. In the case of a wind instrument, the transducer is mounted between the cup or reed of the mouthpiece and the first key or finger hole, or in the air column in a direction opposite the first key or finger hole in the case of a transverse flute or similar reedless woodwind instrument for direct communication with the air column of the instrument.

  • Patent number: 4118427
Abstract: Production of hydroxyl-containing curable liquid hydrocarbon prepolymers by ozonizing a high molecular weight saturated hydrocarbon polymer such as polyisobutylene or ethylene-propylene rubber, followed by reducing the ozonized material; e.g., by using reducing agents, preferably diisobutyl aluminum hydride, to form the above-noted hydroxyl-containing liquid prepolymers having a substantially lower molecular weight than the parent polymer. The resulting curable liquid hydroxyl-containing prepolymers can be poured into a mold and readily cured; e.g.; with reactants such as toluene diisocyanate, to produce highly stable elastomers having a variety of uses such as binders for solid propellants.

  • Patent number: 4114532
Abstract: A magnet assembly is disclosed suitable for use in an impact printer to produce a magnetic field for propelling movably mounted hammer coils toward a type bearing surface. The magnet assembly is comprised of a plurality of spaced relatively thin substantially rectangular magnetic members mounted along first and second parallel rows. End bridging bars are provided which, together with the members, form a closed magnetic field path in which the flux lines extend through the thin dimension of the members in one direction in the first row and in an opposite direction in the second row. The members in the first and second rows are aligned so as to define aligned gaps, each pair of aligned gaps receiving a flat hammer coil. In one embodiment, all of the magnetic members are permanent magnets in which rare earth and Alnico type magnets are interleaved. In a second embodiment, rare earth magnets are interleaved with members of soft iron.

  • Patent number: 4111593
Abstract: A portable tool for cutting wiped-lead fillets from ends of a sleeve over a discontinuity in a cable or conduit where one or more electrical conductors have been spliced, such as telephone conductors in a lead or plastic sheath. The tool consists of a split cutter adapter having sharp teeth at one end which cut the wiped lead as the two parts fitted over the cable or conduit are rotated. A main section of the cutter adapter has a keyway for a key on the inside of a split drive barrel that fits over the cutter adapter up to the main portion. The barrel has annular ribs which fit into grooves in a hinged housing having a handle extending literally for an operator to hold the housing over the barrel while forcing the cutter adapter against the wiped lead. A gear engages the gear teeth on the barrel through the wall of the housing. That gear may be turned by a hand crank or small electric motor.

  • Patent number: 4109944
Abstract: A coupling for unthreaded pipes of a sprinkler system, which permits the replacement of a small damaged pipe section without bending the pipes already emplaced in the ground. The coupling is comprised of a pair of semi-cylindrical pipe sections adapted to fit around and engage the emplaced pipes. The longitudinal edges of the two semi-cylindrical pipe sections are formed so as to mate with one another to hold the sections together as an applied adhesive forms a water-tight seal.

  • Patent number: 4106361
Abstract: A relatively simple gear-forming process is disclosed, which enables the production of a set of gears that is especially useful for a particular type of gear pump, and which also produces a set of gears which operates with a high degree of rolling contact. The gears are produced by first forming an initial cutter gear having teeth with cylindrical tips supported by narrow supports, and using this initial cutter on a gear shaper to cut a first gear having bullet-shaped teeth. The first gear can then be used as the cutter on a gear shaper to cut other gears with bullet-shaped teeth or to cut gears with pole-shaped teeth. In a gear pump wherein fluid is forced through an axial passage opening into the space between teeth of the sun gear, the sun gear is formed with pole-shaped teeth while the planetary gear is formed with bullet-shaped teeth.

  • Patent number: 4104623
Abstract: Apparatus for holding a camera and flash unit so they are separated from one another, including a frame having an upper portion for holding the flash unit and a lower portion for holding the camera, and having a pair of laterally spaced handles near the lower portion. The handles are oriented so they can be held comfortably at slightly below eye level with the upper arms extending down and braced against the body and the forearms extending upwardly. One of the handles forms a palm pad lying under the camera so that the right hand can hold the pad in the palm while the thumb and middle or forefinger rest on the camera lens to turn it for focusing, or rest on the aperture ring for changing the lens opening. The other handle, which receives the left hand, is in the form of a bar which is angled from the vertical so it can be held without cramping the photographer's hand at the wrist.
