  • Patent number: 5596557
Abstract: A disc skew detecting apparatus having a skew sensor for detecting skew of a disc in which information signals are recorded and reproduced with an optical pickup device, the skew sensor being located on a track on which a beam spot of the optical pickup device is positioned. Preferably, the disc skew detecting apparatus has two skew sensors for detecting skew of a disc in which information signals are recorded and reproduced with an optical pickup device, the skew sensors being located in preceding and succeeding positions of an objective lens of the optical pickup device and along a track which is incident a recording/reproducing light beam. The skew sensor being located with its measuring direction toward the center of the disc.

  • Patent number: 5590094
Abstract: A sound collecting system and a sound reproducing apparatus by means of which an actual audio image can be reproduced. The sound collecting system includes a plurality of microphones for producing sound signals and a plurality of position detecting apparatus for detecting locations of the microphones and/or positions of sound sources to produce position signals. The sound signals and the position signals are multiplexed by a plurality of multiplexers, and the multiplexed signals are stored into respective audio channels or different channels by a signal recording apparatus. The multiplexing may be performed by a frequency multiplexing method, a time division multiplexing method or the like. Since also position information is stored into corresponding audio channels together with acoustic sound signals, at the reproducing stage, reproduction is possible taking the positions into consideration and an actual audio image can be produced.

  • Patent number: 5584066
Abstract: A double superheterodyne receiver comprising a pair of first mixer circuits, a pair of second mixer circuits, a demodulator circuit, and a pair of detector circuits. The first mixer circuits are connected in an orthogonal relation to each other and acts to convert a received RF signal into a pair of first intermediate-frequency (IF) signals in the baseband. The second mixer circuits are connected in an orthogonal relation to each other and acts to convert the first IF signals into a pair of second IF signals of a given center frequency. The demodulator circuit arithmetically combines the second IF signals so as to create a third IF signal, and demodulates the original signal from the third IF signal. The output signals from the second mixer circuits are supplied to the detector circuits, which in turn detect the carrier component contained in the output signals. The output signals from the detector circuits are fed to the second mixer circuits.

  • Patent number: 5581395
Abstract: A non-linear optical crystal element preferably of BBO or KDP arranged within a resonator for generating a light beam in the wavelength range of UV rays based on a radiated light beam of a basic wave. The non-linear optical crystal element is preferably hexahedral-shaped and has a protective film on its surface. The protective film is made up of at least two layers arranged on an incident surface and an outgoing surface of the non-linear optical crystal element. The layer of the protective film directly contacted with the incident surface or the outgoing surface is formed by ion plating.

  • Patent number: 5568455
Abstract: A system and method for the storage and retrieval of off-line optical disk cartridges for use with an optical disk cartridge storage and retrieval device which stores a number of optical disk cartridges near-line. Each of the off-line and near-line optical disk cartridges is assigned a unique alphanumeric code, and a label including this unique alphanumeric code and an optical code representing same is externally affixed on the optical disk cartridge. Each of the optical disks encased by the optical disk cartridges is then preformatted so that the unique alphanumeric code of the optical disk cartridge encasing the optical disk becomes the unique preformatted disk ID of the optical disk. A list of the preformatted disk ID's is then stored in data storage in the optical disk cartridge storage and retrieval device.

  • Patent number: 5557465
Abstract: A laser plate making apparatus is disclosed for forming a press plate from a form plate sheet. The apparatus includes a laser light source for providing a laser beam, a collimator lens, an objective lens and an anamorphic prism. The laser light source serves to emit a laser beam onto the form plate sheet through the collimator lens, the objective lens and the anamorphic prism. The anamorphic prism serves to shape the laser beam such that even if a focal stripe width is made small the focal depth is not substantially shortened.

  • Patent number: 5542100
Abstract: A cellular communication system includes a mobile station with a switch or button which, when actuated by the user, calls a predetermined party. In the case of an emergency, the user actuates this switch and automatically places a call to an emergency agency. The switch also actuates a system for automatically locating the mobile station by measuring distances from the mobile station to a plurality of fixed stations in the cellular communication system.

  • Patent number: 5542072
Abstract: In a database accessing system, access information concerning access to a database system is transferred using call control messages including user-to-user information within a control procedure defining the connection of a call on a signal channel. This results in a database accessing method that offers the improved use efficiencies of communication lines and the upgraded operating ratio of a database system, and allows users to enjoy reduced communication charges.
