Abstract: Reversable scraper blades engaging against one side of a belt run respond through a resilient connection to the movements of a roller engaging against another side of the belt run.
Abstract: One half of the valve housing is mounted on a strap which is tightened around a pressure vessel by a clamp screw. The other half of the housing is pivoted to the first so that it can be swung open to expose the valve. The other half can be locked to the strap to prevent opening and, when so locked, the clamp screw is blocked so that the strap cannot be loosened to slip off the pressure vessel.
Abstract: Polypropylene plastic baskets for phosphor copper anode nuggets are suspended, one on each side of a cylinder to be plated, in a bath of plating electrolyte. The tops of the baskets are disposed beneath the surface of the plating solution, the upper portion of the cylinder is above the surface of the electrolyte, and lead anode conductor strips extend downwardly along the insides of the rear walls of the baskets.
Abstract: A bight of a cable is wrapped around a sliding wedge thimble which, when one or both of the cable parts is pulled, jams the cable parts between convergent sides of the wedge thimble and opposed convergent sides of a casing. A key, when engaged through registering keyways of the wedge thimble and casing, limits the sliding movement of the wedge thimble so that the latter does not jam the cable parts but, rather, permits the cable to slip lengthwise around it. The key is tapered, and the keyways are so arranged that they serve to unjam the cable when the key is forced through the keyways.
Abstract: Ridged with a plate mounted on a door jamb is an inward extension, on the free end of which is pivoted a latch which swings between door-blocking and door-unblocking positions. The latch is releasably retained in door-blocking position by a flat strip having one end pivoted to the latch and a free end engageable between the door and the door jamb. The latch also has an intermediate position which permits the door to be cracked open.
Abstract: A pile driving rig is used to pre-drill a hole into which an elongate element, such as a pile or a hollow mandrel is inserted. A large portion of the weight of the rig is imposed upon the elongate element by a jack system, one part of which rests upon the pile element and the other part of which jacks up one end of the rig. If further seating of the pile is desired the jacking force is momentarily released so as to drop the superimposed weight of the rig onto the elongate element.
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding a power circular saw across a workpiece and effecting splinterless cutting thereof and having a saw guide assembly with a shield member, a base member, the guide assembly being in operative association with the workpiece.
Abstract: A normally open reed switch mounted on a door jamb is closed by a magnet in a chain-lock keeper when the door is closed. A pole piece, which functions as a bolt on the end of the chain, engages in the keeper and shunts the flux of the permanent magnet so that the reed switch is not effected by the flux, and assumes its normally open condition if the bolt is seated home in the keeper.
Abstract: A frame has upwardly convergent legs which support a plate on which a seat is swiveled. The frame provides a socket which fits over the upper end of an upwardly disposed tree stump or limb stub. A foot rest extends around three sides of the frame so as to leave an open side through which the hunter may climb up to the seat. Clamps in the lower portion of the frame secure it to the tree member.
Abstract: A laterally swinging keel weight is supported within a recess of the belly of a buoyant minnow so as to swing about an axis disposed above the longitudinal center of buoyancy of the minnow.
Abstract: After wet-drilling a hole until a bearing strata is reached, a mandrel with a removable overboot is lowered into the hole and the overboot is seated by a few hammer blows. The mandrel is then partly filled with thick concrete from its top, the top of the mandrel sealed, air-pressurized and a mechanical lifting force is applied. The pressure of the air within the mandrel plus the weight of the concrete forces off the overboot, and also forces the thick concrete against the sides of the hole, and the concrete forms a seal between the sides of the hole and the mandrel. The air pressure also helps lift the mandrel out of the hole.
Abstract: Opposite edges of a flexible sheet of thermographic material are held so that when the surface of the sheet is forced against a body surface, resultant opposing forces applied to the opposite edges of the sheet press all the engaging surfaces against the body surface with substantially uniform pressure.
