Patent number: 5162707Abstract: A propulsion system for using a pair of electric induction motors to power a pair of vehicle drive wheels. The motors are driven by pulses of electric current from a common dc bus. The inductance of stator windings cause electric current to power the motors during the time between pulses so power from the dc bus is low. When a vehicle is making a tight turn, an inside motor provides an electric current to the dc bus to supply additional power to an outside motor. Speed and steering signals operate the electric motors and control speed of an engine and an alternator which supply power to the dc bus.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1990Date of Patent: November 10, 1992Assignee: FMC CorporationInventor: Craig L. Patent number: 4994637Abstract: A single turn induction coil which provides uniform sealing of lids to plastic containers. A first end of the coil overlaps a second end of the coil with the ends being tapered to form a single complete ring. An electrical current is coupled to the overlapped portions of the first and second end of the coil so the electrical current flows for more than 360.degree. around the coil. This provides an induced electrical current around a container lid adjacent to the coil and provides heating of the complete circumference of the lid. A variety of shapes of containers and matching lids can be used with the present invention.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: FMC CorporationInventors: Jin-Liou Fang, J. Patent number: 4841213Abstract: A current and torque feedback system for use with sine-wave controlled brushless servo motors each having a plurality of stator windings, a permanent magnet rotor and a rotor position sensor. Current sensors detect instantaneous values of electrical currents in each of the stator windings; and circuitry computes peak current values and electrical polarity of each current. Circuitry uses sensor signals from the rotor position sensor to divide the electrical revolution of the brushless motor into a number of regions equal to the number of phases of the brushless motor with each of the regions centered about the peak values of the sensed currents. The peak values of the currents and the current polarities are coupled to circuitry which generates an output signal having a value proportional to the peak values of the currents and having a polarity indicative of the direction of the torque generated by the brushless motor.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1988Date of Patent: June 20, 1989Assignee: FMC CorporationInventor: Jaroslav Tomasek
