Abstract: A system and method for category organization is disclosed. The method discloses: receiving an information collection including a set of strings; identifying positively predictive pairs of strings; identifying negatively predictive pairs of strings; joining positively predictive pairs of strings into common categories; splitting negatively predictive pairs of strings into different categories; and organizing the categories using the negatively predictive pairs of strings. The system discloses various elements, means and instructions for performing the method.

Abstract: The method of the present invention discloses: receiving a source text having a set of source text portions; generating a set of source text summarizations, each having a set of summarization portions, from the source text; calculating a portion score for each of the source text portions based on the source text portion's appearance in the summarizations; and populating a combined text summarization with those source text portions whose portion score exceeds a predetermined threshold. The system of the present invention discloses all means for implementing the method.

Abstract: A ruggedized, compact personal information appliance apparatus and process of manufacture is disclosed. The apparatus discloses an information appliance surrounded by an encapsulation element. The encapsulation element isolates predetermined exterior portions of the appliance from a predetermined set of environmental conditions. The process of manufacturing discloses: identifying a predetermined set of environmental conditions; identifying a predetermined set of structures on the appliance, which are to be protected from the environmental conditions; selecting an encapsulation element which can protect the appliance from the environmental conditions; and surrounding the set of structures with the encapsulation element.

Abstract: A system and method for prioritizing contacts is disclosed. The method discloses: receiving a set of requests from a set of contacts to be connected to a recipient; generating a first priority level score for each request based on an acoustical analysis of a contact speech signal within the request; generating a second priority level score for each request based on a keyword analysis of the request; combining the priority level scores for each request into a combined priority level score; prioritizing the requests within the set of requests based on their respective combined priority level scores; and routing to the recipient that request, from the set of requests, having a highest combined priority level score. The system of the present invention includes all means and mediums for implementing the method.

Abstract: A reverse logistics method for recapturing value of used goods over one or more internet exchange portals is disclosed. The method of the present invention includes the steps of offering used goods, owned by an actual seller, for sale over an internet exchange portal; selling a right to market the used goods to a virtual seller; marketing the used goods over the portal under direction of the virtual seller; identifying an actual buyer; and selling the used goods to the actual buyer.

Abstract: A system and method for automated message response within a system for knowledge management is disclosed. The method discloses the steps of: identifying a set of information resources; profiling the information resources; monitoring a transmitted message; scoring the monitored message with respect to the information resource profiles; querying an information resource with content from the monitored message, if that information resource's score exceeds a predetermined threshold; receiving a set of query responses from the information resources; generating a response to the monitored message from the query responses; and responding to the monitored message with the message response. The system of the present invention, discloses means for implementing the method.

Abstract: A system and method for chip testing is disclosed. The present invention's method includes the steps of establishing a communications link between a chip and a computer tester; receiving on the chip an initial test algorithm over a communications link; testing the chip, using a built-in self-test (BIST) circuit on the chip, in accordance with the initial algorithm; collecting a set of failure information in response to testing; and transmitting the failure information from the chip to the computer over the communications link. The present invention's system includes: a communications link; a computer, operating a set of chip testing software; and a chip under test coupled to the computer by the communications link, having, a memory array; and a BIST module for testing the memory array in response to test algorithms received from the computer and transmitting those addresses within the memory array which failed testing.

Abstract: A system and method for differentiating private and shared files is disclosed. The invention includes the steps of: receiving a request from a computer for access to a shared file; providing the computer with access to a computer specific private copy of the shared file, if the private copy already exists; and creating the computer specific private copy of the shared file for the computer to access, if the private copy does not already exist and if write access to the shared file is requested.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for recovering from memory failures in computer systems. The method of the present invention includes the steps of: identifying a predetermined instruction sequence; monitoring for memory access errors in response to the request; logging a memory access error in an error logging register; polling the register for any logged memory access error during execution of the instruction sequence; and raising exceptions, if the memory access error is logged. Within the system of the present invention, memory access errors are stored in an error logging register, machine check abort handles are masked, and memory controllers are under full control of the software so that memory access errors can be intercepted and responded to without necessitating a system reboot or application restart. The present invention is particularly applicable to O/S code which can not otherwise recover from memory errors except by rebooting.

The system discloses: an item storage device, including a set of items: an item identification module, for collecting raw data from the set of items located within the item storage device; a processing module, proximate to the item storage device, for summarizing a predetermined subset of the raw data; a memory module, for storing selected system data; and a communications module, for transmitting the summarized data.
