  • Patent number: 5948934
Abstract: A process is disclosed for recycling of polyester used in the fabrication of molded plastic goods, such as films, carbonated beverage bottles and particularly waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) bottle grade, manufacturing residues and other manufactured articles. The process comprises the alcoholysis of washed or cleaned, crushed or grinded PET in one step of reaction, with alcohols containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms in their molecule, in an autoclave reactor capable to support pressures of about 10 MPa (100 Kg/cm.sup.2 gage) and operating temperatures in the range of 10 to 300.degree. C.; followed by one or several steps of reaction product purification such as crystallization and/or centrifugation and/or distillation. The alcoholysis reaction product is a dialkyl aromatic ester (DAAE), which is recovered by filtration or centrifugation and depending on the alcohol used in the process the DAAE obtained are several industrial products such as dimethyl terephthalate, dibutyl terephthalate, etc.

  • Patent number: 5899802
Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically electrically stimulating poultry carcasses in poultry processing plants in order to tenderize the poultry meat are disclosed. Carcasses suspended by shackles from a moving processing line are transported between two preferably curved electrical conductive bars, which are positioned to apply the electrical stimulation across the breast of the suspended carcass. The carcasses may otherwise be dragged through a charged saline or water solution, or across a charged metal mesh or grill. The carcasses are subjected to electrical stimulation for by the application of an intermediate level voltage for the period of stimulation.

  • Patent number: 5890290
Abstract: An improved carton cutter has an incrementally extendable fully retractable first cutting blade with a depressible safety guard at its front end. A strap cutting second blade is fixed at a hooked rear end of the cutter. A ratchet mechanism provides audible evidence of the amount of blade extension and a pointer shows the position of the front blade. The front blade is mounted on a lockable slide. Both blades are easily removable without disassembly and precisely positioned without noticeable play.

The carcasses may otherwise be dragged through a charged saline or water solution, or across a charged metal mesh or grill. The carcasses are subjected to almost constant electrical stimulation for 8 to 13 seconds by the application of an intermediate level, 100 percent duty cycle, AC voltage for the period of stimulation.

  • Patent number: 5885351
Abstract: A tribocharge applicator device for application of a powdered material to a substrate is disclosed. The device includes an inlet for pressurized conveying gas, an inlet for powdered polymeric material having a first dielectric constant, a mixing chamber, a discharge barrel and a charge module. The charge module includes: at least two spiral charging elements disposed inside and coaxially aligned with respect to the barrel, each spiral charging element comprising an elongated sheet of a different material having a second dielectric constant. The proximal end of the elongated sheet is twisted about its longitudinal axis with respect to the distal end such that each longitudinal edge of the sheet forms a spiral.

  • Patent number: 5884853
Abstract: A mobile system for processing raw ears of corn includes a first mobile processing trailer for receiving raw unhusked ears of corn, holding the ears and disbursing the ears to a first conveyor. The first conveyor transports the ears to a second mobile trailer for further processing. The second mobile trailer includes a husker for removing corn husks and corn silk from the ears, a cutting mechanism for removing kernels from the ears after the husks and silk are removed, and a second conveyor for transporting the corn husks, corn silk, and corn cobs from the second trailer. A third conveyor transports the kernels to a third mobile trailer for further processing. The third mobile trailer includes a cooling tank for chilling the kernels and a conveyor for transporting the kernels to transportation receptacles for transportation to a cannery for further processing.

  • Patent number: 5881397
Abstract: A bathtub drain closure having a strainer element with an internally threaded recess that engages male threads on the lower end of an upwardly extending post. The post has at least one transverse passageway containing a polymeric pin having ends that project slightly beyond the ends of the passageway. A stopper having a centrally disposed, internal bore slides up and down the post between open and closed positions. The central bore of the stopper has a stepped profile having upper and lower portions with an internal diameter slightly greater than the length of the polymeric pin and a middle portion with an internal diameter slightly less than the length of the polymeric pin, thereby causing the pin to be compressed into frictional engagement with the central bore as the stopper slides up and down between the open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 5878472
Abstract: A tool for and method to facilitate the replacement of wheels on track-and-wheel vehicles and equipment by lifting the track from the road-wheels in a quick, safe and efficient manner. A tool with an elongated section and two forked ends, each fork having a long prong and a short prong, the long prongs of both ends not being on the same side of the tool. In operation, one forked end is placed in notches in the lower track, and the other forked end is placed in notches in the upper track. The vehicle is then driven in a direction so that the tool acts as a wedge lifting the upper track off of the road wheel.
