  • Patent number: 5780325
Abstract: Isolation regions for a semiconductor layer of a semiconductor-on-insulator substrate are fabricated by forming a patterned implantation mask on the semiconductor layer. The patterned implantation mask includes mask sidewalls. An implantation masking film is formed on the sidewalls of the patterned implantation mask. Ions are implanted into the semiconductor layer, using the patterned implantation layer and the implantation masking film as a mask, to thereby form a doped region in the semiconductor layer. Sidewall spacers are formed on the implantation masking film, opposite the patterned implantation mask. The doped region between the sidewall spacers is etched to thereby define a trench in the semiconductor layer between the sidewall spacers and a doped edge layer in the semiconductor layer which extends from the trench to the implantation masking film. Insulating material is then formed in the trench.

  • Patent number: 5772076
Abstract: A dispensing closure which is particularly suited for hot fill packaging wherein vacuum conditions are present as well as the packaging of carbonated beverages wherein superatmospheric conditions are present. The dispensing closure includes a rotatable outercap that overlies, and is relatively moveable with respect to, an inner cap secured to a container mouth. The inner and/or outer cap can be integrally formed with a resilient thermoplastic gasket liner system that provides vacuum seals both between the inner or outer caps and container as well as between the inner and outer caps. The closure can be equipped with a tamper indicating band, preferably located at the base of the outer cap, which will separate from the outer cap when it is rotated and axially moved upwardly from the closed to the dispensing position.

  • Patent number: 5762993
Abstract: Sources of raw meat having a high fat content, such as pork trimmings, are processed in a manner by which meat products prepared therefrom have a dramatically reduced fat content while retaining the desirable functionality of the unprocessed meat sources. The fat-containing raw meat trimmings are comminuted, phosphated, heated and centrifuged under specific processing conditions in order to provide unformulated raw low-fat or no-fat meat having a fat content of not greater than about 1.5 percent by weight while having excellent functionality. The unformulated reduced fat raw meat is formable into a variety of familiar meat products, including wieners, sausages and hamburger patties, thereby providing products having taste, appearance, texture and other qualities which are substantially indistinguishable from products prepared from higher fat unformulated raw meats but which have very low fat contents. The phosphate use accounts for a fat reduction of from about 10% to about 40%.

  • Patent number: 5755774
Abstract: A luminal graft endoprosthesis or endovascular graft is described which is capable of dilation and support functions and as suitable for the endoluminal repair of vascular lesions and the like. An expandable support or stent is combined with a tubular graft made of a material having two unstressed conditions to provide a combined stent-graft wherein the graft material is secured to either or both of the internal and external surfaces of the stent. The stent-graft may be positioned within a blood vessel of a living patient by an expandable balloon catheter. The graft member is made from a biocompatible material which, when expanded, exceeds its yield point and becomes dimensionally stable without retaining significant residual forces which may cause the stent to collapse after its placement within a blood vessel.

  • Patent number: 5752366
Abstract: Thin and lightweight baked products such as crackers and the like are dispensed from a stack and placed into a compartment of a packaging tray or the like. An escapement gate assembly supports the product as it falls into a accumulator opening and before it drops into the compartment of the packaging tray. This engagement need be for only a small fraction of a second, long enough to dissipate virtually all of the horizontal velocity components imparted to the products during handling of the products prior to dropping into the compartment. A preferred application moves a sub-stack of crackers from a larger stack and into the compartment.

  • Patent number: 5746649
Abstract: An assembly and method are disclosed for separating the muscle tissue of meat from sinew. A plurality of elongate pins which are spaced from each other in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the pins pierce the meat from which the sinew is to be removed to restrain the sinew against movement, and a compressive force is imparted to the muscle tissue by a compression assembly while the sinew is being restrained against movement. The force which is imparted to the muscle tissue separates the muscle tissue from the sinew and causes the muscle tissue to move away from the restrained sinew and through the spaces between the pins. With the assembly and method of the invention it is possible to remove significant and substantial portions of the sinew from the meat being processed, and to reduce the fat in the muscle tissue to as little as less than 1-11/2 wt %.

  • Patent number: 5743498
Abstract: A system for anchoring a pipe, such as a train pipe, to the inside of an elongated right angle structural part or member, such as may be mounted on a sidewall of a rail car. The elongated right angle structural part has a plurality of spaced bolt receiving holes extending through one leg and a plurality of pipe anchor bases, with brackets fastened thereto, are attached to the right angle structural member by means of a single bolt extending through a bracket and one of the spaced bolt-receiving holes. Each pipe anchor base may be of the general type found in known pipe anchors as disclosed, for example, in U.S. Pat. No. 2,546,792 dated Mar. 27, 1951, U.S. Pat. No. 2,625,354 dated Jan. 13, 1953 and U.S. Pat. No. 4,222,538 dated Sep. 16, 1980. Once a combined pipe anchor base and its bracket has been installed on the inside of the right angle structural part, relative movement between the anchor base-bracket combination and the structural part will be prevented.
