  • Patent number: 4450028
Abstract: Multi-layered enclosures are provided which include extruded tubing laminated between two extruded sheets of coextruded film in order to rapidly produce an unusually tough enclosure having longitudinal side walls that are free of internal seams while providing superior fluid barrier properties. When desired, the multi-layered enclosure is transformed into a multi-layered bag or pouch by sealing the multi-layered enclosure together along one or more locations interconnecting the longitudinal or side edges of the multi-layered enclosure to thereby cross seal together the sheets, the tubing, and the internal surfaces of the tubing.

  • Patent number: 4444601
Abstract: Substrates, especially those having plated metal surfaces, are subjected to passivation treatments in baths that incorporate one or more film-forming agents at least one of which does not require chromium and includes anions or cations of elements other than chromium. Typically, the anions or cations are introduced as bath-soluble salts which react with the plated surface of the substrate to form an adherent, coherent passivation surface film. Also present within these baths are a source of hydrogen ions and a bath-soluble carboxylic acid or derivative activator for enhancing the rate of the passivation reaction. Articles passivated in baths incorporating these film-forming agents have a hydrophobic surface that exhibits corrosion resistance and that typically has a bright finish.

  • Patent number: 4444656
Abstract: Classifying apparatus and methods for the separation of solids of differing sizes includes a screening deck having an inclined frame and a screen in the frame on which the solids are deposited and moved downwardly. A plurality of beams extend beneath the screen transversely of the frame and the ends of the beam are mounted to the frame by a resilient mounting to isolate vibrations of the beam from the frame. A tappet assembly is fixed to each of the beams and contacts the underside of the screen and a vibrator motor is mounted to each of the beams to directly vibrate the beam, the tappet assembly of each beam, and the screen. Controls may be provided for independently operating each of the vibrators to vary one or both of the frequency or the amplitude of the vibrations of the screen over its length.

  • Patent number: 4438403
Abstract: A fault indicator for indicating the occurrence of a fault current in a power distribution system includes a test-point-mounted circuit module and a remotely-mounted indicator module. The indicator module incorporates a bidirectional magnetic winding and a magnetic indicating element having a magnetic state conditioned by energization of the winding. Upon the occurrence of a fault in the power system trip circuitry within the circuit module energizes the winding with current in one direction to condition the indicator element to a fault-indicating magnetic state. Upon restoration of current in the system, reset circuitry within the circuit module energizes the winding with current in the opposite direction to condition the indicator to a reset-indicating magnetic state. The use of currents of opposite direction in a single magnetic winding provides greater flux density at the indicating element, and enables the indicator module to be connected to the circuit module by means of a two conductor cable.

  • Patent number: 4436093
Abstract: A battery powered external pacer operable in fixed-rate and demand modes includes a sense amplifier having an active notch filter system for attenuating power line interference. The filter system comprises four separate data channels each including a transmission gate synchronously driven by pacer clock pulses for frequency stability. Charges developed on capacitors in each data channel are summed by an output capacitor to avoid the need for amplifiers in each channel. A detector having two comparators for detecting positive and negative directed R-wave components derives heart pulses from the amplified signal. A pulse-driven reference supply having very low power consumption provides operating bias required by the detector. A battery monitor having a single comparator simultaneously monitors supply voltage for low and unusable voltage levels.

  • Patent number: 4428208
Abstract: An oil control system and regulator for controlling the oil level in the crankcase of one or more refrigeration compressors or the like are disclosed. The regulator comprises a shell and end cap closures defining a closed chamber for containing the oil. An inlet extends through one of the end cap closures and includes a float controlled valve for admitting liquid to the chamber as necessary to maintain the oil level in the chamber and compressor crankcases and also includes a piston which is movable up and down to adjust the float and the oil level in the regulator chamber. A threaded adjusting pin extends through the end cap closure and into the chamber and threads on the adjusting pin are threaded through a coupling bracket which couples the pin with the piston to move the piston, float and valve for adjusting the oil level.

  • Patent number: 4424512
Abstract: A fault indicator for indicating the occurrence of a fault current in an alternating current conductor includes a pair of parallel-spaced reed switches in magnetic communication with the conductor. The reed siwtches are electrically connected in parallel by a magnetically conductive bridging element at one end of the pair and by a non-magnetically conductive bridging element at the other end of the pair. A permanent magnet bridging the non-magnetic bridge establishes a magnetic bias circuit which extends serially through the switches to increase the sensitivity of each switch to a fault current during a respective half-cycle of the alternating current cycle.

  • Patent number: 4414707
Abstract: An apparatus for removing the casing from sausages is improved by modifying the product loading horn with a structure that brings about venturi effects whereby fluid for conditioning the casing is impelled through the product loading horn and contacts the casing within the product loading horn at a velocity greater than the velocity at which the conditioning fluid is supplied to the apparatus. The venturi aspects of the apparatus insure thorough conditioning of the casing while substantially eliminating escape of the conditioning fluid to the environment. The improved structure includes restricted passageways at fluid interfaces where the conditioning fluid enters the product loading horn and after the conditioning fluid exits the product loading horn.
