    Abstract: A streamlined method for purifying alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) from an AAT-containing protein mixture, such as a Cohn fraction IV precipitate, is provided. In the method of the invention, contaminating proteins are destabilized by cleavage of disulfide bonds with a reducing reagent, such as a dithiol, which does not affect AAT. The destabilized proteins are then preferentially adsorbed on a solid protein-adsorbing material, without the addition of a salt as a precipitant. Separation of the solid adsorbent from the solution leaves a purified AAT solution that is directly suitable for chromatographic purification, without the need for extensive desalting as in prior art processes. A process incorporating this method, which provides pharmaceutical grade AAT in high yield on a commercial scale, is also described.

According to yet another embodiment, the peripherals device includes a data collection device for collecting data and using the interface for sending the collected data to a remote processor for further processing. The data collection device can include an image reader, a barcode reader, a signature capture device, an optical character recognition. In yet another embodiment, there is a power subsystem that powers the peripherals device and the handheld communications device. The power system has a low power state to conserve energy.

    Abstract: An electro-acupuncture device for controlling nausea. The device includes a wristwatch like housing, circuitry for generating electro-acupuncture stimulus disposed within the housing, and a strap for securing the housing to the wrist. The device also includes a pair of D-shaped electrodes disposed on the bottom outer surface of the housing. A gasket made of an electrically non-conductive material is applied to the bottom outer surface of the housing. The gasket has apertures which are sized and shaped to receive the D-shaped electrodes. When the device is strapped to a patient's wrist, the electrodes contact the wrist and provide electric stimulation to the wrist.

The editor stores the audio length of a current line in a new tag information line for the second file, determines whether the original text portion of the current line is found in the text segment, and if the original text portion of the current line is not found in the text segment, identifies a corrected text of the text segment adjusting the audio length of the new tag information line of the session file to correspond to the corrected text.

Preferably, the method is carried out in the presence of a substantially significant applied electric field across dielectric layer. A semiconductor device tested in accordance with this method is also disclosed. Additionally, methods for reducing dielectric breakdown of a semiconductor device having a thin dielectric layer involving the substitution of a second molecule for H2 molecules present in the dielectric. This second molecule preferably does not react with Si or O to form an undesired attached state and may be an inert gas having a molecular size approximating that of a Hydrogen atom, such as Helium.

The cultures may be used to produce hepatocyte products, evaluate metabolism of an agent, propagate Hepatitis C virus and test agents as inhibitors of this virus. Thus, the culture system disclosed herein makes long term functional cultivation of human hepatocytes feasible.

The system and method allows ICAHUs to work safely and efficiently and to avoid cords, hoses and cables that may accidentally disconnect or unplug themselves in the course of everyday use. ICAHUs can easily apply collar mechanisms to the end of cords, hoses or cables aft of said cord's respective plug ends, hose's ends or cables' ends, and then subsequently attach said collar mechanisms together using a series of collar ties that are adjustable in length and tension, and tie connectors which facilitate said adjustment of said collar ties. The method comprises a system in which cords, hoses and cables, including but not limited to standard electrical cords may be fastened together then held tightly together without easily becoming accidentally unplugged.

The core frames extend laterally between the subframe assemblies and define a passageway through the door. Decorative frames are releasably attached to the subframe assemblies and can be removed or replaced without having to remove the subframe assemblies from the door. A security panel can be secured to one of the subframe assemblies to prevent animals and intruders from entering a residence through the pet door.
