  • Patent number: 6280098
Abstract: An optical fibre connector comprising a hollow cylindrical body 2 having a throughbore 3 with an inner surface 4. A hollow sleeve or carrier 6 in the form of a cylindrical tube having a throughbore 8 fits snugly within the hollow body throughbore 3. The sleeve 6 can receive and releasably retain a pair of optical fibre assemblies 11 which are to be optically coupled to one another by means of the connector. The sleeve 6 accommodates a plurality of discrete individual engagement means in the form of balls 10 in holes around it circumference. The balls 10 protrude through the holes in the sleeve into the throughbore 3, and are free to rotate as an optical fibre assembly moves past them. The optical fibre assemblies 11 are biassed against the balls 10 and thereby against the inner surface of the connector body by resilient biassing means in the form of spring arrangements 14. Each spring arrangement 14 comprises an elongate resilient strip 15 pivoted about its midpoint on a pivot 20.

  • Patent number: 6279695
Abstract: An integrated axle spindle and brake spider assembly for axles of heavy duty vehicles such as trucks, and trailer axles. The assembly is a one-piece member comprising a cylindrical hollow axle spindle and a brake spider extending radially outwardly from the axle spindle. The brake spider includes an actuator support plate provided with a support opening for a brake actuator cam shaft, and a pivoting end support plate provided with a pair of pivot pin bores receiving brake shoe supporting pivot pins. The integrated axle spindle and brake spider assembly is manufactured from a single steel alloy billet as a one-piece forging. The one-piece assembly reduces the overall weight of the component, cost of manufacturing, and improves positioning accuracy of brake components and structural integrity.

  • Patent number: 6280820
Abstract: A semi-finished wood simulating product and method is disclosed. The product is manufactured by providing a substrate having at least one surface to be finished. A liquid basecoat is applied on the substrate and dried. A wood grain pattern is deposited, in liquid form, on the basecoat. Some of the pattern is transferred from the originally deposited position on the basecoat to a subsequent position. The pattern is then cured. A polymerizable protective coating is applied onto the substrate overlying the basecoat and the pattern. The protective coating seals the substrate and is adapted for accepting a colorant to be applied by an end user. The protective coating is then polymerized. Additionally, if a porous substrate is provided, a sealer is applied prior to the liquid basecoat and is then cured.

  • Patent number: 6276315
Abstract: When a valve 10 is opened, a locking ball 8 moves upward with respect to a rocker arm 3 and the locking ball is located between the rocker arm 3 and a push rod 5. The push rod 5 moves downward integral with the rocker arm 3 in a condition the push rod 5 is locked. When a valve 10 is closed, the locking ball 8 moves downward with respect to the rocker arm 3 and the push rod 5 is placed in unlocked condition. A retaining member 3A in the rocker arm 3 contacts the circlip 9 and the push rod 5 moves upward. By this construction, it becomes possible to eliminate adjustment work of tappet clearances and also unfavorable conditions caused by adjustment work of tappet clearances.

  • Patent number: 6276843
Abstract: An optical fiber connector comprising a manipulator 11 in the form a cylindrical tube having a throughbore 12 which receives a carrier 13 in the form a cylindrical tube having a throughbore 14. The carrier 13 receives an optical fiber assembly 15 which is to be coupled to another optical component by means of the connector. The manipulator 11 has two pairs of adjustment screws 18a, 18b and 19a, 19b, which can be used to displace the carrier and optical fiber assembly within the manipulator. The manipulator also includes two adjustable spring plungers 22 for applying a variable resilient biassing force to urge the carrier against the contact points of the adjustment means when it is inserted into the manipulator. The carrier 13 includes plural pads 24, which have flat, planar surfaces 25 and protruding studs 26 mounted therein. The pads are arranged in holes 27 in the carrier body such that their flat surfaces form part of the outer surface of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 6273351
Abstract: A spinning reel for fishing includes a rotor rotatably supported in a reel body, a drive mechanism for driving the rotor by operating a handle mounted on the reel body, a first reversal preventive mechanism for preventing the rotor from rotating in the direction of playing out a fishline by stopping the drive mechanism from rotating in the reverse direction at the time of casting the fishline, and a second reversal preventive mechanism for holding the rotor in a predetermined position by stopping the drive mechanism from rotating in the reverse direction. The first reversal preventive mechanism is formed of a rolling one-way clutch, and the second reversal preventive mechanism is caused to hold the rotor in the predetermined position by switching the first reversal preventive mechanism to non-working condition.

  • Patent number: 6268893
Abstract: A structure and method of operation of a fringe direct writing system to produce a hologram or the like. The apparatus is roughly classified into four parts: an illumination part; an image display and optical imaging part; an optically autofocusing part; and a two dimensional moveable stage part. The method of operation directly images a pattern, which is previously calculated by computer and displayed on the LCD panel, onto a recording material. This method affords the possibility to write a fringe pattern in a large region within a short period of time.
