  • Patent number: 6716163
Abstract: An instrument holder including a releasably lockable adjustable arm for rigidly maintaining a tool or instrument in a pre-selected orientation. The instrument holder also includes a tensioning device pivotally connected by a hinge to the arm. The arm includes a plurality of links longitudinally arranged along a common axis, wherein adjacent links are pivotally connected by a hinge, and a duct. A tensioning cable extending within the duct of the arm attaches to the distal end of the articulated arm and to the tensioning device, and applies a tension force to compress the hinges so as to rigidly lock the arm into the preset position.

  • Patent number: 6707580
Abstract: A fax to E-mail system and related method are shown, whereby a hardcopy document is sent via a fax device to its recipient via electronic mail through a data network (such as the Internet), and is delivered in such a manner that it can be retrieved by the recipient at an E-mail device, in the ordinary course of retrieving the E-mail, and displayed on the screen of the E-mail device. The invention provides for and accomplishes the delivery of a document, which begins as a hardcopy, as an electronic file retrieved through E-mail recipient's terminal and displayed on the computer screen of the E-mail recipient's terminal. The system and method also provides for an interface device which connects to a conventional fax device for communicating E-mail addresses and routing hardcopy documents to the E-mail network. The invention provides a means for embedding the functions of the interface device into conventional fax devices.

  • Patent number: 6643034
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating facsimile transmissions has one or more store and forward facilities, each associated with a plurality of subscriber facsimile machines, typically coupled over the switched telephone network. The store and forward facilities include a computer for controlling operations and mass data storage equipment. A subscriber to the system delivers an outgoing facsimile message to the store and forward facility with which it is associated, which records the fax message together with data as to originating facsimile machine and destination facsimile machine. The store and forward facility then delivers the facsimile message to the intended receiver facsimile machine, either directly or through another store and forward facility. If unsuccessful on an initial attempt, the store and forward facility periodically retrys to send the facsimile message.

  • Patent number: 5901472
Abstract: An athletic shoe system is provided comprising a shoe with shoe sole, non-metal screw boss, and cleat. The cleat of the preferred embodiment is usable with the shoe system of the present invention or with prior art athletic shoe systems. The preferred invention includes a removable plastic cleat having a disc-shaped body with a downwardly projecting generally circular pattern of ridges on its bottom side and an upwardly projecting threaded stem on its top side. A non-metal screw boss for embedding in the sole of a shoe has a cylindrical body with a threaded bore. An array of lobes project radially outwardly from the lower end of the cylindrical body and a corresponding set of truncated cone-shaped tabs project upwardly from the lobes. In use, a plurality of the screw bosses are embedded within the shoe sole during molding with the threaded bores of the bosses exposed through the bottom of the sole.

  • Patent number: 5883945
Abstract: A three-way call detection and response system comprising, in accordance with a preferred embodiment, a three-way call detector coupled non-intrusively, by a bridge repeater, to a communication path carrying digital signals between originator and recipient end office telecommunication switches. The three-way call detector includes an interface and a digital signal processor electrically connected to the bridge repeater for receipt of digital signals from the communication path. The three-way call detector also includes a local controller which interacts with the interface, a digital signal processor, and a remote controller. The remote controller executes a plurality of software programs which control operation of the system. In accordance with a preferred method, the three-way call detection and response system monitors the communication path for indicia representative of a three-way call signature and, hence, an attempted three-way call placement.

  • Patent number: 5674059
Abstract: An first rotor and an second rotor rotate about a longitudinal axis in a housing. The second rotor moves longitudinally relative to the first rotor. Rotor vanes extend outward from the rotors and are longitudinally split into longitudinally extending second vanes and longitudinally extending first vanes that slide longitudinally relative to one another. The second vanes travel longitudinally with the second rotor relative to the first rotor, and the second vanes slide relative to the first vanes that remain with the first rotor. The second rotor and the second vanes move longitudinally toward and away from a recess defined by the first rotor such that the active surface area of the rotor vanes is varied. When the second vanes slide away from the first vanes, surfaces of the first vanes are exposed that reciprocate into and out of specially defined chambers in a pump-like fashion. A movable element is connected to and extends from the second rotor.

  • Patent number: 5667744
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating columns, wherein the apparatus includes a column fabricating assembly and a column extractor. The column fabricating assembly includes a unitary column mold and a mold support assembly. The unitary column mold is reusable and is fabricated specially for the task of fabricating a column therein. Uncured column materials are placed into the unitary column mold and the unitary column mold is enclosed in the mold support assembly. The uncured column materials cure, and thus the column is formed, while the unitary column mold is encased in and spun by the mold support assembly. The unitary column mold is removed from the mold support assembly with the column therein. The column extractor is used to extract the column from the unitary column mold; the unitary column mold is secured by the column extractor and the column extractor pulls the column out of the unitary column mold.

  • Patent number: 5627835
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for searching code division multiple access pilot signal energies includes limiting a pilot signal window size above a lower limit and only analyzing search result data corresponding to an instructed pilot signal window size. A central processing unit instructs a searcher receiver within a mobile station modem application specific integrated circuit to search for pilot signal energies within an instructed pilot signal search window unless the instructed pilot signal window size is smaller than a pilot signal window size lower limit. In such a case, the pilot signal search window size is artificially designated as the pilot signal window size lower limit to prevent excessive search completion interrupts from over utilizing central processing unit resources.
