  • Patent number: 6159057
Abstract: Disclosed is an electrical connector of the blade and contact type in which the contact has a tuning fork shape. The tuning fork includes a first tine and a second tine which are spaced apart and are initially parallel to each other. The first and second tines form an elongated slot therebetween. An adjustable tensioner includes an elastic member mounted exterially of one of the tines and a set screw which extends through the elastic member and one of the tines and is engaged with the other of the tines. By adjusting the set screw, the second of the tines is biased in a direction towards the first of the tines and the spacing between the first and second tines is reduced. In this manner, the contact pressure and spacing can be adjusted so that when the blade is inserted into the slot formed by the tines, the frictional resistance can be adjusted. The blade can either be vertically or longitudinally inserted into the slot.

  • Patent number: 6157676
Abstract: An image encoding apparatus for application to images expressed as respective frames of a digital video signal, whereby an image is converted into an array of blocks with specific blocks predetermined as being independent internally encoded blocks and the remainder as predictively encoded blocks, with predicted pixel signal values for a predictively encoded block being derived by interpolation from pixel signal values of at least one pair of blocks which have been already encoded and enclose that predictively encoded block along the row or column directions or both the row and column directions. Encoding efficiency is enhanced by applying Discrete Sine Transform processing along the interpolation direction, when encoding an array of prediction error signal values derived for a block, and by executing adaptive prediction by determining an optimum interpolation direction, when there are two possible directions for deriving predicted pixel signal values for a block.

  • Patent number: 6089363
Abstract: A mechanism of a simple structure, in which always stable and discretionary frictional resistance can be produced even when the speed of rotary movements or rectilinear movements of the subject structure changes and, moreover, the magnitude of the frictional force can be easily controlled by changing the magnitude of a load. Namely, when a rotary member 1 is rotated while a load toward the axial direction is being applied, numerous rollers 2 make rolling motions in contact with the rotary member 1 and a passive member 3. The rollers 2 make rolling motions along a track of rotation of the rotary member 1. The rollers 2 are restrained to roll toward a direction being inclined by a prescribed angle by a cage 4. This results in producing a frictional force in proportion to the magnitude of the load being applied to the axial direction between the rollers 2 and the rotary member 1 nd between the rollers 2 and the passive member 3.

  • Patent number: 6068407
Abstract: The invention permits stacking of seals without possibility of the sticking of their synthetic rubber seal members to one another. Moreover, when assembling the seals to produce anti-friction bearings, the invention permits storing the seals as a stack in a stocker of an automatic assembler and, unlike the case of using silicon or like prior art anti-sticking material, substantially eliminates generation of fine particles or the like adversely affecting precision apparatuses and deteriorating the reliability thereof. In an anti-friction bearing comprising an inner ring (1), an outer ring (2), and rolling elements (3) provided between the inner and outer rings, a side gap between the inner and outer rings is closed by seals (4) of the invention, which each include a synthetic rubber seal member (6) and a surface active material (7) coated thereon.

  • Patent number: 6060837
Abstract: Variable reactances of a matching network connected between an r.f. source and a plasma load of a vacuum plasma chamber processing a workpiece are varied so a tendency of the plasma to change in an unstable manner which can adversely affect processing of the workpiece is avoided while matching is approached. The plasma tendency to change in an unstable manner is detected by monitoring an electrical parameter resulting from r.f. current flowing between the source and load via the network. The parameter can be (1) statistically based, e.g. variance of percent delivered power, or (2) amplitude modulation in one or both of the 2-20 kHz and 50-200 kHz ranges.

  • Patent number: 6053836
Abstract: When second rotating bodies are made eccentric, the second rotating bodies move straight in the radial direction along first rotating bodies. Therefore, the cyclically changing angular velocity of the second rotating body changes so that the side on which the angular velocity is higher than the angular velocity of the input-side rotating body and the side on which the angular velocity is lower are symmetrical to each other. Also, on both of the side on which the angular velocity is higher and the side on which it is lower, the acceleration side and the deceleration side change symmetrically to each other. On the other hand, the angular velocity of the second rotating body such that the movement direction with respect to the first rotating body is shifted 180 degrees with each other with the input-side rotating body being the center changes symmetrically with respect to the angular velocity of the input-side rotating body.

  • Patent number: 6049967
Abstract: These and other objects of the present invention are achieved by inserting electrically conductive rings and a bearing into a mold before a slip ring body is injection molded. During the injection molding process, the rings and the bearing are partially encapsulated by the injected plastic and retained. Plastic is prevented from entering the race of the bearing by using a pair of additional plastic inserts which prevent plastic from entering the bearing race. When the injected plastic cools, the plastic shrinks and compresses the bearing thereby preventing axial movement. Wires attached to the rings are also encapsulated by the plastic material during the injection molding process.
