  • Patent number: 4549313
Abstract: An optoelectronic switching network comprises a transmit board (10), a receive board (40) and an optical projection system (3). The transmit board is formed by plural transmit units, each including a light source (11). The receive board is formed by plural receive units (41), each including plural optoelectronic cells. The optical system projects an image of the transmit board onto the receive units so that in each receive unit the images of the sources of the transmit board coincide with the optoelectronic cells of the receive units. An optoelectric cell is thus activated by an illuminated light source. In each receive unit, a light source illuminates the receive units when a cell thereof is activated, and a supervision receive unit (60) supervises the optoelectronic cells (62) having projected thereon images of the receive units.

  • Patent number: 4548835
Abstract: A method for fabricating an electrode for use in lead storage batteries in which an aqueous emulsion of a silicone capable of forming an elastic, porous matrix on breaking of the emulsion, is contacted with a finely divided active electrode material at the stage of preparing an electrode paste, or after formation as an electrode. The contacted material is dried, so that the elastic, porous silicone matrix formed in association with and in intimate contact with the finely divided active electrode material. An aqueous dispersion of fluorocarbon resin can be further added to the paste, or an electrode having a fibrous network of fluorocarbon resin can be applied with the silicone emulsion. Fine particles obtained from the silicone emulsion can also be applied to a finely divided active electrode material.

  • Patent number: 4548567
Abstract: This invention relates to manufacturing a grooved cylindrical core by extrusion. The manufacturing device comprises a single rotating integral die that has a tapered rear portion and a grooved cylindrical front portion. The tapered portion surrounds a stationary central member and guides the material from a main extruder. The front portion has a bore including linear or helical channels. The sealing problems are obviated since the tapered portion and the grooved portion make up an integral die. This die further enables to produce a grooved core perfectly gauged. According to another aspect, the threads or stripes between core grooves are identified by means of auxiliary extruders feeding predetermined die channels with extrusion materials having different colours. This stripe identification is particularly used for a core constituting the central strand of an optical cable.

  • Patent number: 4548777
Abstract: Information storage mediums such as video discs and digital audio discs are fabricated by extruding a mass of electrically conductive synthetic resin into a block assembly composed of a pair of separable blocks in which the mass is molded into a cake that is then carried by one of the blocks as separated into a press in which the cake is pressed into an information storage medium or disc blank. The blank is transferred into a trimmer for trimming an overflow off the disc blank as an annular scrap, which is in turn chopped by a chopper into pieces for reuse. A disc from which the scrap has been removed is fed to a hot stamping machine in which an identification foil piece is attached with heat to the disc. The disc with the foil piece stamped thereon is punched to form a central hole by a punching machine.

  • Patent number: 4549201
Abstract: An input composite color video signal is processed to derive a luminance signal and three primary color signals first, and then only a high frequency component of the luminance signal is A/D converted by a first A/D converter, while only low frequency component of each of the three primary color signals is A/D converted by a second A/D converter with the low frequency component of the three primary color signals being time-shared by a first switching circuit to be a single analog signal. The A/D converted chrominance information is fed to a second switching circuit comprising shift registers of parallel-in and serial-out type so that three bits respectively indicative of red, green and blue signals are simultaneously outputted therefrom. The A/D converted luminance data of a plurality of bits, and three bits indicative of three primary colors are simultaneously written into a memory.

  • Patent number: 4549181
Abstract: A moving obstacle detection system using a Doppler radar device for an automotive vehicle which detects and informs a vehicle driver that another vehicle (moving obstacle) approaches or moves away from the detecting vehicle, wherein there is provided a means for determining whether the rate of change of the period of a Doppler signal outputted from the Doppler radar equipment with respect to time exceeds a predetermined value so that an erroneous alarm in response to a pedestrian or another vehicle traversing the front detection area of the vehicle, e.g., when vehicle is at rest at in an intersection is inhibited. • Patent number: 4547769
Abstract: An abnormally high vacuum pressure of a vacuum interrupter is detected from outside of the interrupter in response to electromagnetic wave signals generated by an electric discharge derived in response to a voltage difference and depending upon Paschen's law. Since the above-mentioned electric discharge is quite different from so-called partial discharge, even when the fixed and movable contacts are closed (i.e., under hot-line condition), it is possible to detect poor vacuum pressure on the basis of the electric discharge existing between the fixed and movable contact rods including two contacts and the main shield, as well as when the two contacts are open. The vacuum monitor according to the present invention comprises a rod or loop antenna fixedly or movably disposed near a conductive material of or connected to the vacuum interrupter and a detection section including, in particular, a 2 to 20 KHz band-pass filter.

  • Patent number: 4546690
Abstract: An input audio signal is analog-to-digital (AD) converted into digital data which is processed by a central processing unit (CPU) for determining pitch of each sound by effecting Fast Fourier Transform (FET) operation and power spectrum calculation. The determination of the sound pitch is effected twice in sequence, and by using frequency and level data resulted from two consecutive determinations, the time length of the sound is detected. After the pitch and the time length are determined, data indicative of a given musical note pattern is produced so that a musical note indicative of time value is indicated at an appropriate position on a staff displayed on a screen of a display unit. Such data from the CPU is fed via a video display processor to a video RAM to be stored therein where the video display processor produces a video signal fed to the display unit in turn.

  • Patent number: 4547231
Abstract: Semiconductor layers are selectively epitaxially grown in portions having an insulating film removed which is formed on a substrate by selective epitaxial growth under reduced pressure. With respect to a circumferential region outwardly of the removed portions in which the semiconductor elements are to be provided, there are formed one or more removed portions (dummy portions) in which no semiconductor element is provided, thereby making arrangement of the removed portions as even as possible with respect to the entire surface of the insulating film, to overcome position dependency in flatness of the semiconductor layers to be obtained. The semiconductor layers grown in the dummy portions may be left not to have semiconductor elements formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4546310
Abstract: Electrical continuimeter device for checking the electrical continuity of a conducting layer covering a structure having conducting and non-conducting parts, said conducting layer being covered by an insulator layer. The device comprises a pick-up with an inner and an outer coaxial electrodes to be put on the insulator layer. A supply alternating voltage is applied between the inner electrode and the ground terminal of the structure developing a first voltage across a load resistor and a second voltage between the outer electrode and the ground terminal is measured. Components of the second voltage respectively cophasal and in phase quadrature with the first voltage are generated and these components are divided by the first voltage, thus providing the resistive and reactive components of the ground impedance.

  • Patent number: 4545972
Abstract: Cuprous chloride, which is contained in a reduced leach solution or pregnant liquor, can be recovered as a complex salt of alkali metal chloride, such as potassium chloride, or alkaline earth metal chloride or ammonium chloride. The salts are produced by oxidation of a copper ore, such as chalcopyrite, with ferric chloride and cupric chloride, and after removal of insolubles, by adding sufficient metallic copper to the solution to reduce cupric ions to cuprous ions so as to provide a solution containing 1.5 to 2.5 molal potassium chloride, or other metal or ammonium chloride, and cooling the resultant saturated solution to precipitate the potassium chloride-cuprous chloride complex salts and recovering the complex salts. Also provided as a method for recovery of pure copper metal by electrolysis of solutions derived from the complex salts wherein the impurities are diverted to an anode loop which is separated from the cathode loop by a diaphragm.
