    Abstract: A double hook lure includes a pair of shanks having piercing ends defined by sharp tips and their associated barbs, the shanks having first bends causing them to diverge from one another in a shank plane from a lead head in which their other ends are embedded, so that the piercing ends are laterally spaced apart. An eye is substantially, fixedly connected to the lead head for attachment of the lure to a fishing line so that the lure is retrieved through the water by the line in a travel direction. Bights in the shanks cause the piercing ends to point generally toward the lead head and along lines generally parallel to and spaced from the shank plane, and second bends in the shanks cause the tips to point along substantially parallel lines which are substantially parallel to the travel direction.

    Abstract: A stool seat includes an impermeable top wall having an upper surface upon which a user sits and a peripheral edge. The top wall is sealingly joined along its peripheral edge to an impermeable bottom wall and is adapted to support itself in spaced relation above the bottom wall so that the top wall is suspended above the bottom wall from its peripheral edge to provide a single sealed cavity containing a fluid at a predetermined pressure between the top and bottom walls. The top wall is further adapted to resiliently deflect toward the bottom wall under the weight of the user so that the pressure of the fluid in the sealed cavity is increased when the user sits upon the upper surface.

In the preferred patch, the wing portions are elastically stretchable in a direction away from the central portion and bear adhesive on their respective surfaces disposed in contact with the face so as to anchor the patch and maintain it tautly in position over the eye orbit.

    Abstract: A center for maintaining a cutting tool, such as a tapping tool or reamer, in axial alignment with a hole to be worked upon includes an elongated body and a centering pin received by a cavity defined in the body for movement between retracted and extended positions. A spring is interposed between the body and the centering pin for biasing the pin from the retracted position to the extended position, and the pin includes an accessible handle which projects through a slot provided in the body. The handle can be manipulated into a position within the slot for releasably locking the centering pin in a retracted position. For mounting the center within a machine tool, the body includes an end portion including a plurality of alternatively-sized cylindrical sections arranged axially along the body so that the body can be mounted within collets of alternative sizes. Moreover, the centering pin includes a live end for engaging the cutting tool when rotating to thereby reduce wear on the pin.

    Abstract: A conveyor loader for loading railroad cars or the like with coal or other crushed, ground or particulate material includes a support providing a guideway extending along the line of railroad cars and a line of segmented carriages rollably mounted upon the guideway. An endless belt of elastomeric construction is supported by the line of carriages for movement of an upper run of the belt between the ends of the carriage lines. Motors are associated with each of the line of carriages and the conveyor belt for moving the carriage line and the belt in either of two directions relative to its supporting structure. During a loading operation with the loader, coal or other particulate material is delivered to the upper run of the belt from a central loading station and conveyed to an end of the belt where it is directed into a railroad car to be loaded.

The second member is movably attached to the first member for movement between a first position at which rotation of the head engagably moves both the scrubbing pad and the scraper across the surface being cleaned and a second position at which rotation of the head engagably moves only the scrubbing pad across the surface being cleaned. The apparatus also includes a detergent application system for dispensing liquid detergent over the region of the grill surface being cleaned and a vacuum system for removing spent detergent and materials, such as grease and grime, loosened from the surface by the head.

    Abstract: A take-off performance monitor uses a sensor to produce a movement signal proportional to the movement of an aircraft during a take-off roll and, for each take-off, historical data is generated and stored based on the movement signal. An analyzing unit of the monitor uses the historical data and current conditions to calculate a reference take-off distance, reference acceleration data and reference velocity data. This information is output to the pilor to facilitate his judgment as to the adequacy to take-off performance. In the preferred embodiment, the analyzing unit utilizes five samples of acceleration and velocity during a take-off roll to solve an equation for five constants that are indicative of take-off performance. The five constants relate to static thrust, a linear relationship between thrust and velocity, a non-linear relationship between thrust and velocity, air drag and rolling drag, and these five constants constitute at least part of the historical data.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for recovering constituents and/or heat energy from a fluidized bed combustion process utilizes a single vessel which combines a combustor for fluidized bed combustion of a chemical mixture fed therein and a heat exchange section. Characteristics of the fluidized bed are controlled by withdrawing an appropriate portion of the larger, unburned constituent particles from the bottom of the combustor, and smaller constituent particles are withdrawn by becoming entrained within the gases of combustion and being transported to the heat exchange section. The smaller particles are separated from the gases without the use of a cyclone separator and accumulate as another fluidized bed in the heat exchange section where heat is adsorbed from the particles for recovery purposes and to cool the particles. A portion of the cooled particles is then recirculated to the combustor by, for example, pneumatic transport methods for controlling the operating temperature of the combustion process.

    Abstract: An edging apparatus edges a wood board to achieve a desired rounding effect under a rounding rule of the lumber industry. A positioning apparatus positions and holds two edging saws, and the positions of the saws are initially controlled by an operator who selects initial cut positions. Input data, including board length and thickness parameters and the initial cut positions are generated by input devices and a computer is responsive to the input data for computing the best cut positions of the saws. In making this computation, the computer takes into consideration the rounding rule and, according to predetermined criteria, the computer selects best cut positions that will produce an edged board whose measurement exceeds a whole board foot measurement by a desired fraction of a board foot. Adjustment input may be provided to adjust the size of the desired fraction of the board foot.

    Abstract: A pressure swing adsorption process and system for generating gaseous streams which are high in oxygen purity and high in nitrogen purity utilize a first adsorption zone adapted to principally adsorb oxygen from a feed stream containing oxygen, nitrogen and argon via kinetic separation techniques and a second adsorption zone adapted to adsorb nitrogen from a feed stream containing oxygen and nitrogen via equilibrium separation techniques. Following a step in the process operation involving a directing of a feed stream into the first adsorption zone, the first adsorption zone is purged in a desorption step so that a purge stream exits the inlet of the first adsorption zone. During the initial moments of this desorption step, the purge stream is vented to the atmosphere, and during the latter moments of this desorption step, the gaseous purge stream is conducted to the inlet of the second adsorption zone so that a gaseous stream which is high in oxygen purity exits the outlet of the second adsorption zone.

    Abstract: A body support member fabricated of an open-cell polyurethane foam sheet, such sheet having a plurality of chevron-shaped ridges projecting from one flat surface of the sheet and extending between opposite side edges of the sheet. Each chevron-shaped ridge has a single bend therein along its length dimension, such bend occurring at the approximate mid-point of such length dimension. The ridges alternate with similarly shaped valleys so that substantially one entire surface of the sheet is made up of such alternating ridges and valleys. The preferred ridges are of a hyperbolic geometry in cross section. The height of each ridge above the surface of the sheet, and the spacing between adjacent ridges preferably are selected to provide the desired support of the body member above the surface.

Once the cover raised to its spaced, or elevated, position and the tray and cover are inverted and canted to an inclined condition, the top portion and sidewalls provide a chute for accepting ice cubes dropped from the tray and for directing the dropped ice cubes off the lower end of the cover.

    Abstract: A thermal treatment process employs an indirectly fired rotary kiln in which matrix material contaminated with organic substances such as dioxins, PCBs, PAHs, fuel oils, and the like is heated as the material is advanced through the kiln to cause components of the organics to be released as vapor. Purge gas of low oxygen content is conducted through the kiln at a relatively low velocity of from about 0.5 ft./sec. to about 10 ft./sec. to gently sweep the vaporized components of the organic substances from the kiln and to minimize the entrainment of solid particulates, and to produce an off gas mixture including the vaporized components. The off gas is conditioned after removal from the kiln to render it acceptable for discharge to the atmosphere. The oxygen concentration in the kiln is maintained at a sufficiently low level to substantially prevent combustion of the vaporized organic components in the kiln.

    Abstract: A method of enhancing the quality of a pulp which has been subjected to a chlorine-based bleaching agent, by subjecting the chlorinated pulp to ozonation prior to an extraction stage in the bleaching sequence. The improved pulp of the present invention includes reduction of total organically bound chlorine residues in the wood pulp and adsorbed organic halides (AOX) in the effluent, and has good brightness and viscosity. The advantages of the present invention may be accomplished by means of a bleaching sequence that employs as few as four stages, namely DZED with attendant relatively lower capital investment than heretofore possible.
