Patent number: 6951384Abstract: An ink jet heater chip having improved thermal. The chip includes a semiconductor substrate, a first metal resistive, a second metal conductive layer on a first portion of the resistive layer and on a second portion of the resistive layer defining a heater resistor element. A passivation layer having a thickness defined by a deposition process is deposited on the second metal conductive layer and heater resistor element. A cavitation layer is deposited on the passivation layer and etched. A dielectric layer is deposited and etched to provide a dielectric layer overlying the first portion of the resistive layer. An electrical conduit via is etched in the dielectric layer. A third metal conductive layer is deposited in the via for electrical contact with the second metal conductive layer. Separately deposited dielectric and passivation layers enable independent control of the thickness of the dielectric and passivation layers.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2004Date of Patent: October 4, 2005Assignee: Lexmark International, Inc.Inventors: Frank Edward Anderson, George Keith Parish

Patent number: 6605846Abstract: A method of forming junctions in a semiconductor substrate, where a gate dielectric layer is grown on the semiconductor substrate, a gate electrode layer is deposited on the gate dielectric layer, and a sacrificial layer is formed on the gate electrode layer. The sacrificial layer is patterned with a material to cover portions of the sacrificial layer and expose portions of the sacrificial layer. The exposed portions of the sacrificial layer are etched to remove the exposed portions of the sacrificial layer and expose portions of the gate electrode layer. The exposed portions of the gate electrode layer are etched to expose portions of the gate dielectric layer and form a gate electrode having exposed vertical faces. The sacrificial layer and the exposed portions of the gate dielectric layer are impregnated with a first species that inhibits diffusion of oxygen through the sacrificial layer and the exposed portions of the gate dielectric layer.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2002Date of Patent: August 12, 2003Assignee: LSI Logic CorporationInventor: Helmut Puchner

Patent number: 6586326Abstract: A method for restoring an eroded portion in an exposed upper surface cavity of a metallic element in a microelectronic device, where the metallic element has a hardness, and the metallic element is laterally surrounded by lateral elements, where at least one structure within the lateral elements has a hardness that is greater than the hardness of the metallic element. A precursor material is deposited in at least the cavity of the upper surface of the metallic element. The precursor material is deposited to a thickness that at least fills the cavity of the upper surface of the metallic element. The precursor material has a hardness that is less than the hardness of the at least one structure within the lateral elements. The precursor material is removed as necessary from the lateral elements, and the precursor material is planarized. Only the precursor material within the cavity of the upper surface of the metallic element is selectively replaced with a desired material.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2001Date of Patent: July 1, 2003Assignee: LSI Logic CorporationInventors: Jayanthi Pallinti, Samuel V. Dunton, Ronald J. Nagahara

Patent number: 6267889Abstract: The invention relates to a filter assembly for producing a paste-like filter cake and a substantially solids free filtrate or permeate. The filter assembly includes a substantially cylindrical member having an exterior foraminous surface, the cylindrical member being mounted on an elongate shaft for rotating the surface about an axis defined by the shaft. The exterior foraminous surface is covered by a microporous filter media. A stationary housing is positioned adjacent a portion of the exterior surface of the cylindrical member. The stationary housing includes a filter feed inlet and a sealing device and is spaced from the exterior surface a distance sufficient to enable cross flow relative to the filter media. Unique filter seal members promote retention of fluid to be filtered in a filtration area defined by the housing and cylindrical member. As the cylindrical member is rotated about the axis, a cake removal or membrane cleaning device removes filter cake from the filter media.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2000Date of Patent: July 31, 2001Assignee: MDF, LLCInventor: Douglas L. Patent number: 6143170Abstract: A portable system for recovering oil-based fluids from sorbent articles containing oil-based fluids, the system including a motor vehicle and a self-balancing centrifuge having a housing and a foraminous rotatable basket removably attached to a spindle in the housing, the centrifuge being attached to the vehicle for transport to a remote site, the basket having a solid base having a mass sufficient to provide self-balancing rotation of the basket and the basket being configured for receiving a plurality of the sorbent articles therein, wherein rotation of the centrifuge basket applies sufficient centrifugal force to the sorbent articles to cause removal of oil-based fluids therefrom such that the fluids travel from the basket into an annular area between the basket and the housing and from the housing to a fluid recovery tank and the sorbent articles are essentially fluid free.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1998Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Inventors: David L. Briggs, John K. Clement, Jr.
