  • Patent number: 7998316
Abstract: A method and apparatus for quenching metallurgical coke made in a coking oven. The method includes pushing a unitary slab of incandescent coke onto a substantially planar receiving surface of an enclosed quenching car so that substantially all of the coke from the coking oven is pushed as a unitary slab onto the receiving surface of the quenching car. The slab of incandescent coke is quenched in an enclosed environment within the quenching car with a plurality of water quench nozzles while submerging at least a portion of the slab of incandescent coke by raising a water level in the quenching car. Subsequent to quenching the coke, the planar receiving surface is tilted to an angle sufficient to slide the quenched coke off of the planar receiving surface and onto a product collection conveyer and sufficient to drain water from the quenched coke.

  • Patent number: 7992877
Abstract: A chuck for releasably retaining a substrate, where the chuck has a body with a substrate receiving surface disposed in an X-Y coordinate plane and adapted to receive the substrate. The body has gas pressure delivery channels and gas vacuum drawing channels, where the gas pressure delivery channels and gas vacuum drawing channels are mutually exclusive within the body. The substrate receiving surface has gas pressure delivery portions in communication with the gas pressure delivery channels, for delivering a gas pressure against the substrate while the substrate is retained by the chuck, and thereby keeping the substrate from contacting the substrate receiving surface. The substrate receiving surface also has gas vacuum drawing portions in communication with the gas vacuum drawing channels, for drawing a gas vacuum against the substrate while the substrate is retained by the chuck, and thereby retaining the substrate proximate the substrate receiving surface.

  • Patent number: 7989729
Abstract: An apparatus for both detecting and repairing a shunt defect in a solar cell substrate. A shunt detection module detects the shunt defect in the substrate, using at least one of lock-in thermography and current-voltage testing. A process diagnostic module determines whether the substrate should be passed without further processing by the apparatus, rejected without further processing by the apparatus, or repaired by the apparatus. A shunt repair module electrically isolates the shunt defect in the substrate. In this manner, a single apparatus can quickly check for shunts and make a determination as to whether the substrate is worth repairing. If it is worth repairing, then the apparatus can make the repairs to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 7987057
Abstract: A method of inspecting a pattern on a substrate, by extracting boundary locations from design data for repeating blocks within the pattern, inspecting the substrate at only the boundary locations of the repeating blocks, detecting alignment errors at the boundary locations, comparing the alignment errors to a threshold, and flagging the alignment errors that exceed the threshold. In this manner, the alignment errors that were of no consequence in larger design rule devices can be detected, and a determination can be made as to whether they adversely impact the proper operation of the integrated circuit that will eventually be formed from the pattern. By performing the inspection only on the boundary locations, a much higher magnification can be used than what would be reasonably possible for an inspection of the entire substrate.

  • Patent number: 7974716
Abstract: A programmable apparatus improves perception of sound by a person. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a processor, digital-to-analog converter, audio output section and means for generating first and second control signals. The processor executes one or more available programs for processing digital audio signals based on control signals. The digital-to-analog converter generates output analog audio signals based on the digital audio signals. The audio output section receives and amplifies the output analog audio signals, generates audible sound based thereon and provides the audible sound to the person. The memory stores programs for processing the digital audio signals. Based on an action by the person, a first control signal is generated which causes the processor to switch from one available program to another available program so that the person may cycle through and evaluate each of the available programs.
