Patent number: 4245582Abstract: A holder for rotatably mounting the metering rod in a rod-type web coating apparatus, such as used to coat paper, is made of a rigid but yieldably deformable material, such as a plastic. The holder includes a plurality of longitudinally extending conduits for carrying water to lubricate the rotating rod and removing coating particles which are carried by the rod from the web surface and into the rod cavity. The holder has a surface opposite the rod cavity for receiving a uniformly applied load along the longitudinal length of the rod holder for aligning the rod surface and/or applying a uniform nipping load between the rod and surface of the web being coated. Patent number: 4196045Abstract: A method and apparatus for texturing, softening and building bulk into a non-woven fabric web, such as tissue or toweling paper, wherein the paper is passed through a plurality of nipped rolls while interposed between a pair of screens. In the preferred embodiment, each screen is comprised of metal and plastic shute and warp strands, respectively. The web is passed through a first texturing nip while wet and then dried before passing through subsequent nips to effect the texturing and softening of the web.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1978Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Assignee: Beloit CorporationInventor: William L. Patent number: 4195417Abstract: A steam heated dryer drum having one or more spoiler bars secured against its inner shell wall to extend longitudinally and substantially parallel with the axis of rotation. The spoiler bars generate turbulence in the condensate to lower the resistance to heat transfer through the shell wall. No screws, bolts, rivets or the like, which would necessitate penetration of the shell wall, are required or used to secure the bars. In one embodiment, the bars themselves have a bridge-shaped cross sectional configuration and are made of a magnetic material. Their bridge legs form the north and south poles of the magnetic bar and have their ends contoured to correspond to the drum shell radius of curvature. In another embodiment, magnets having a bridge-shaped cross section are used.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1979Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Assignee: Beloit CorporationInventor: Gerald A. Mathews

Patent number: 3961728Abstract: A fluid container mounting and method of mounting in which the fluid container has a tubular member projecting outwardly from the container for insertion into an opening in a supporting member. The tubular member has a closure member extending over the end of the tubular member and away from the supporting member. A collar for clamping the closure member to the tubular member is mounted on the tubular member and is of a size for a generally close fit of the collar in the opening. A resilient lock is carried by the collar for retraction upon movement of the tubular member through the opening and for extension into locking engagement with the supporting member after insertion into the opening. Quick mounting of the container is provided by the method of retracting the lock, inserting the tubular member into the opening and pushing the tubular member through the opening to a position where the lock is released and resiliently set in locking engagement with the supporting member.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1975Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: James T. Harris

Patent number: 3961657Abstract: A radial ply pneumatic tire having an axial spacing between the beads when in the mold which is greater than the axial spacing of the beads when mounted on a rim and in which the width of the ground contacting tread surface is no greater than the axial spacing of the beads when mounted on a rim. The tire is further characterized by an annular recess in each outer sidewall for disassociating the tread structure from the sidewalls and lower bead areas, and a wedge of hard rubber bridging the space between the rim flange and lower sidewall portion for improving the reaction between the rim and a specially rigidified lower sidewall area to provide rapid steering response. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1974Date of Patent: June 8, 1976Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: Dennis Steven Chrobak

Patent number: 3960194Abstract: A pneumatic tire having three plies of continuous tire cord fabric extending at successively alternating bias angles with respect to the centerplane and from bead to bead with one ply having extra high denier cords and being sandwiched between the other two plies which have normal denier cords. The foregoing abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1975Date of Patent: June 1, 1976Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: Patrick S. Neale

Patent number: 3948305Abstract: A bead retention system for mounting and retaining tires on a rim in which a band of resilient flexible material has a series of transverse bead separators mounted along its length at spaced-apart positions. The band has a length and configuration in the unstressed condition for positioning in a tire cavity prior to mounting of the tire on the rim. A cable connecting the ends of the band extends through a ratchet locking member and may be inserted through the valve hole of the rim whereby the band can be pulled down and locked in position around the rim after mounting of the tire on the rim.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1975Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: George T. Patent number: 3942571Abstract: A tire safety support for mounting on a wheel rim to support a pneumatic tire in a deflated condition including a ring member mounted on the wheel rim inside the tire. The ring member has a tread support portion spaced radially outward from the rim which is radially deflectable when a radial load is applied to a deflated tire. A deflection limiting member is mounted on a rim-engaging portion of the ring and extends radially outward to a supporting surface spaced a predetermined distance from the tread support portion of the ring member to limit deflection of the tread support portion upon deflation of the tire.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1975Date of Patent: March 9, 1976Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: Louis Seelback Kraft
